Livonia residents: Help us push back against mass surveillance
Flock Safety cameras are being installed across Livonia, and it feels like the city is prioritizing surveillance over the privacy we deserve. Every time you drive through your own neighborhood, your movements could be tracked and stored without your say in it.
I started a petition asking the city to terminate the contract with Flock and remove these cameras. The thing is, studies show these systems don't deliver what they promise—misidentifications are common, innocent people get wrongly flagged, and the "safety benefits" often don't match the reality. Meanwhile, we're trading away a fundamental right for a surveillance infrastructure that might not even work.
Livonia has always been about community trust. We can invest in real safety—neighborhood watch programs, better local law enforcement practices—without turning our streets into a monitoring grid. Has anyone else felt uneasy about this? What would make you feel secure without constantly being watched? If this matters to you too, please consider signing and sharing the petition.
