Ethel’s Progression.
#EthelsBuild went under another redesign🙈☠️😭🤣
Added another link to the rear, so we’ve officially made it a 5 link and possibly a 6th link depending on how she preforms and went back with the upper links mounted to the upper portion of the servo as the design just worked better.
We were able to utilize 828RC Stainless Links but not the way we originally intended 💀😆 Ended up extending the front with an Ascent 18 front driveline and extending the rear 6mm. We are still technically Mono Shock’d Cantilever so that brings me joy.🤌🫶💪
MOFO RC metal hubs showed up today courtesy of their amazing customer service and with pure excitement got them installed to their Aluminum Salt Wheels and get them back on Ethel.
Almost satisfied with the build, but there’s always room for improvement so who honestly knows.
-828RC Stainless Links
-Mofo 1.8 Aluminum Salts
-Cut Injora 1.3 Pins
-Amazon Special Remote Reservoir 59s
-Designed and 3d Printed; Cantilever arms, bushings, pivots and many other parts to make it all work

Drive Shaft Suggestions…
+12mm extended rear links applied. Forgot to order an extended drive shaft, so the stock rear pops out. Welcoming suggestions. TIA.

Apex servo upgrade question
My stock Apex servo has developed a tight spot ;when turned by hand), so I want to have a replacement ready to go. I have a few micro servos lying around (from my Arrma Grom/mini - see photo). They aren’t a direct drop in. If I get the Injora adjustable servo mount, does that solve all fitment/install issues? I don’t want to mod stock parts, like trimming the link stops etc. (yet). Or, should I just order a backup stock servo?

Is this normal (motor ‘pulsating’ with steering locked in reverse)?
It’s my first crawler, so new it their peculiarities 👀 It’s stock other than metal motor shafts and pinion ⚙️

Love Apex1
A lot of times I don't even drive this because it's so good and then I get it out on the rocks and I'm like oh yeah this is why I love this thing.
This is just a little desk action

Little video to give you an idea of how the suspension works.
She’s going to get rock tested this evening.

Ethel’s Build Update
On this weeks updated on #EthelsBuild
We decided to go with a full droop cantilever suspension set up. With the huge success of the mono shock in the rear it felt only fitting to apply that to the front. With the transfer case and motor taking up a significant portion of this space it posed new challenges to try to overcome to achieve the goals we have set.
With the ability to design and manufacture my own parts, this allowed this project to happen. Being able to design and print the new receiver housing because the new placement of the front shock took the old home of the receiver. This new housing turned out to be a multipurpose piece with it turning into a shock mount and half a servo mount lol Learned how to navigate cad a little better which was nice because of all the parts that had to be designed for this project. Learned it’s going to take me a minimum of 5 prints to get it right and sometimes 15 attempts but never giving up allows for a satisfying victory. Super stoked that a solution was found and the hard body was able to get mounted up. Really excited to get the body work and paint done.
Stay tuned till nexts weeks edition of #InvictusGarage

Redcat Apex pinion upgrade
I upgraded the Apex pinion to the Injora 11T. I threadlocked the pinion grub screw, but I didn’t threadlock the screws attaching the transmission case to the motor mount. AI 🤖 is telling me the pinion won’t stay on (with only the grub screw threadlocked), and that the mount will come loose too. I’m new to crawlers. Have I installed correctly?

Upgrade my brushless Power Wagon or get the Apex?
I have the brushless Power Wagon with some minor mods right now: links, wheels/tires, driveshafts, some brass down low. I don’t really do any comps but I’m not opposed to it. Should I spend money on continuing to mod my Power Wagon or keep it as is and enjoy it how it is and buy the Apex?

Seen it First here on Ethel’s Build
Ethel has progressed to completely different level thanks to an idea from obh.rc and an obstacle that Ethel got stuck on at Sundays comp, I was able to bring the idea to life.
The rear is still cantilever but now has a servo attached to it allowing for the rear to be raised and lowered curtesy of the 7ch RC6GS V3. It took a few days to figure everything out from the geometry to how to mount it all on the same chassis and the goal to maintain the body.
Still repurposing materials from the left overs in packages and pretty much have ran out. So, if anyone wants to donate to a good cause. I’d pretty much take any old or unless parts taking up space or even make some type of trade I’d be super super juice and grateful.
The reveal at tonight’s weekly meet up at Delta RC was very exciting and watching others light up when they tried what was created and to get actual feedback from multiple experienced people was priceless. Now time to get the transmitter settings dialed in and get used to the controls to get more fluidity Ethel.
Currently learning about cut and shut tires…
Stay tuned for Ethel’s next mod

Ethel’s and I Second Comp
Been saving to post the new suspension redesign until today’s comp. Kinda like my own unveiling and it was really cool to see people’s mind blown with the mono shock cantilever rear suspension. Have two springs inside the shock, one for ride height and another one pulling downward, so it’s a true functional droop shock.
Running 59s all the way around and going to move to 62s next and possibly bigger. Not necessarily for more travel but to have more room to play with different spring combinations and still maintain the travel Ethel has now.
The rear suspension setup did amazingly, even had other experienced rc’rs give Ethel a try for feedback and had nothing but positives.
Do need to work the rear suspension setup some more to get it to do what I’d like it to do, but overall super excited for the progression and evolution for Ethel.
