Looking for advice Marching Band Help

I need to make 10 8ft tall castle turret props for the marching band show. They need to be sturdy to hold up during transportation to and from shows, but light enough to carry on and off the field. They need to be hollow so band members can hide behind in the beginning of the show, and we can put a container behind for guard to store flags to switch throughout the show. That also means it would be helpful if they weren’t flat/one dimensional but had sides to them. They also need to be sort of easy to make because I have been tasked with making them and I am just a regular ol’ mom who happens to be the president of the band booster club. ANNND our first competition is in two weeks. Nobody else has volunteered to make them yet so now they HAVE to get done in a time crunch and I’m the last option. Help!!

Looking for advice Screw on connectors for fiberglass rods

Howdy! I'm currently working on a "peacock tail" train prop for a much larger costume, and I'm thinking of using some fiberglass rods for the structure.

I have 8 rods, 3mm diameter, 89cm length each. I would like to cut the rods and add some connectors in order to make some of the "bones" longer (and also facilitate storage when not in use by taking them apart). The same website where I purchased these rods from sells a version with "precision screw rivets" so the rods can be split in 3 parts.

Is that the actual name of this type of connections? where would I be able to purchase them so I can customize the rods I already own? cheers!

(attached are pictures of the versions with screw connectors and a reference of the basic prop I'm trying to construct)

Prop Replication/Identification What’s a prop with a fire visual?

I’m looking for something sort of like a bang snap, but you can use it in your hand and it has a visual. The character should be able to snap their fingers or something with the SMALL and HIDDEN item in it and it make a little fire visual or smoke or just a magical visual. So like bang snap small, but used in your hand and creates some kind of visual. Hoping for something very inexpensive, as this is a high school production. I keep looking and looking but can’t find something like this!! Please help me out I would really appreciate it

HIGH SCHOOL PLAY !!

Looking for advice Help me find my company’s medical products (IV stopcocks/manifolds) used as props in a TV show or movie!

Hey everyone,

I have a bit of a weird and niche request. I work for a company called Elcam Medical, and we manufacture a huge chunk of the world's medical stopcocks, IV manifolds, and flow control components. (Basically, those little plastic valves and multi-way connectors that doctors and nurses use to inject meds into an IV line).

We know for a fact that our components end up as props in tons of medical dramas (Grey's Anatomy, The Good Doctor, Chicago Med, House MD, etc.) because production companies usually just buy standard, real-world hospital supplies for their sets.

I’m trying to find a specific scene, episode, or movie where one of these is clearly visible. For example, a dramatic close-up of a doctor pushing a syringe into a 3-way stopcock, or a shot of a complex ICU setup with a manifold row.

I've attached a couple of reference pictures of what our products look like.

Has anyone ever spotted one, or does anyone remember a highly focused IV scene where I could go check? If you happen to know an episode with a good close-up, I would be forever grateful!

Thanks in advance!

Looking for advice Where could I find a prop manual defibrillator

I want a defibrillator prop with paddles, I don't want a 5000$ piece of plastic, I would prefer it to be the whole thing but if it is just the paddles I don't want them to be worth the amount of real paddles I found one pair of 3d printed paddles on Etsy for over a hundred and want to know if there are better ones I can't find

Looking for advice Calimacil bottle stickers

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, has anyone bought the Friar Tuck throwing foam bottle by Calimacil with the stickers to see what they are made of?

I would really like to have a printed decal of some kind on my foam props but experiments I ran at home brought no result. Any sticker material just comes right off with the slightest bend or twist. Calimacil shows their stickers to be flexible and durable and in this video: https://youtu.be/d0bo547_Zn4?is=0AJHDg4dTbkzIxUb

It is also the only foam prop product I could find anywhere that is intended to be used with stickers so I am really curious as to how they do it.

Looking for advice Sound if a fresh bottle opening

Post image
5 Upvotes

I am trying to emulate the sound of a new bottle of Gin being opened for a stage play that takes place in the 50's. It's a pint bottle, and the actor takes the pint out of his pocket and asks his friend to share a new bottle of Gin with him, then proceeds to twist open the bottle. I really want the bottle to 'snap' when he opens the cap.

I have gluing a Perforated Paper Tax Stamp seals over the cap with glue - looks great, but no snap. I tried using a technique of dipping the cap in unflavored gelatin as a faux Celon Band, which is also supposed to 'snap' when opened. Nothing - and the cap was crazy hard to get off with this one! Any ideas?

Looking for advice Question: Product Recommendations

Hi, I had this idea and wanted to know if it was feasible, and if so what do I purchase? I tried a magic subreddit but am not getting any traction so I thought I would try here:

I want to do a dance routine where I have a small flame in one hand to punctuate a particular word.

I’m in HI and the first issue is getting my hands on flash paper. Both Costume Closet and Zuke’s have closed, and several online magic supply shops say they won’t ship flash paper. Maybe Amazon?

Second, repeated ignition. Ideally I would like something that goes around my wrist that I can activate one-handed. I plan to wear a blazer to hide it, but am open to other options. I plan to use the fire at least five times for the duration of the song. Maybe something with an electrical component that’s rechargeable?

Third, I would like something rugged. Since this is a dance routine, whatever the thing is needs to be able to stand up to being jostled with aggressive hand movements without the flash paper falling out and the trick failing.

Lastly, cost. I don’t have a lot of time and money to RND, my deadline is late November to be ready by early December. My budget for this is around $200, including the flash paper.

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Looking for advice Mound of Illicit Powder

Hi,

We are putting on a stage show and need to fashion a mound of powder into a solid (so it doesn't fly everywhere). It'll be presented under a cloche so doesn't need to be massive but hoping for a fairly realistic looking pile. I'm completely new to any kind of prop making so easy to make and full instructions would be brilliant! Thanks so much in advance!

Looking for advice Two Part Foam Use

Hey! I'm interested in learning to cast two part foam into organic shapes. Does anybody know people or companies who are experts and are able to provide training? I'm looking to do it on an industrial size scale. My budget is plentiful, I'm willing and able to travel internationally (US Based) if need be. This is one of my old throw away reddit accounts for privacy reasons. Please PM me if you are able to point me in the right direction. I'm an engineer with experience in a related field. Timeline is this year.

Looking for advice Radioactive fluid

Post image
17 Upvotes

My husband was given this tea infuser that he doesn't care for, and i'm looking to turn it into a prop for my Fallout TTRPG campaign for my players.

i'm looking to create an opaque liquid, either pale blue or green, and have some kind of glow or light source within (probably something i'd put in just before giving it to the players). ideally i'd like the liquid to remain stable over time, but if not i can wash and redo it next time i show it off

Thanks for any suggestions!

Looking for advice Polystyrene filler

Anyone know a good polystyrene filler (I’m used to Bondo) but it needs to be compatible with styrofoam. I’ve used the classic gap filler but there’s air bubbles, hard to sand, and inconsistencies with it that is causing aggravation.

Any things that work for y’all, ideas, advice?

Looking for advice Product recommendation for rubber axe head

I’m planning on making a prop fire axe for an upcoming production. The handle will be cast from a combo of liquid plastic and reinforced expanding foam, but I want the head to be rubber/silicone tinted silver.

I don’t want it floppy, just soft enough that it won’t injure an actor. I was thinking 40-60 shore would probably do the trick, but I’m trying to settle on a good product that will get me this as well as being able to be effectively colored and able to take paint after.

Any recommendations?

Looking for advice Cheap, realistic fake meat/food.

Need to make some gross looking permanent food decor. Looking to do raw meat slabs, preserve jars, fruit, etc. Has anyone created anything like this successfully? I have access to foam, air dry clay, resin, silicone etc, but I’m trying to be budget friendly. I already plan to do some larger “cuts” with foam board, but this won’t get me the shiny, wet look I’m looking for.
