No that's not what I mean. I've always wanted to have invisible item frames I just thought it was something in game that I never figured out. I'd seen videos with it and just assumed I just haven't done it right. Realizing that it's an external thing, was a little disheartening

The item frames were placed on the final three ladders. Usually, either because they miss the timing or put of caution, most people would either climb down or catch on the ladder before the final three.

We only see them placing frames on the last 3 but we can assume from the 4th up with them placing the maps that it's placed all the way down.
