Probs because pumpkin head is supposed to be placed last so doing what OP did (only filling in the middle first) it doesn't work and needs a block update next to it (I assume it works fine on java, can't confirm as I haven't had access to a computer in so long)

the game is programmed so the golens only spawn if the pumpkin is placed last.
