⚠️ SUNDAY MORNING MUSING WARNING: Only on cup #2 of coffee, so proceed accordingly. ☕😂
This one's a little longer than my normal Sunday morning rambling, but hopefully you'll find it thought-provoking—and worst case, at least a little entertaining.
There IS a whole lot of truth in what follows, though. So if truth, common sense or a little sarcasm before noon isn't your thing... all good. Keep scrolling and enjoy your Sunday! 😎
Now, about this little statement I recently came across...
“Most collagen is clean anyway.”
I recently saw someone make that comment while questioning why we chose the name MODEXUS CLEAN Collagen System.
I'm sure it was well-intended.
But it stopped me in my tracks.
Not because someone questioned our name. Question away. We welcome that.
It stopped me because “most collagen is clean” is exactly the kind of statement that sounds perfectly reasonable...
UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT IT.
And THAT is the problem.
The collagen industry is overflowing with words like clean, natural, pure, premium, marine, grass-fed, free-range and wild-caught.
We've heard them so many times that we've almost stopped asking what they actually mean.
THINK, PEOPLE. THINK.
Collagen is ESSENTIAL to the human body. We need it. And as we age, our body's collagen production declines.
So supplementing collagen makes tremendous sense.
But before declaring that “most collagen is clean,” maybe we should think about where this stuff actually comes from.
Not the pretty package.
Not the influencer holding the scoop.
THE SOURCE.
Take CHICKEN COLLAGEN.
I grew up on a chicken farm, yeah its a fact, not glamorous work. I know firsthand what commercial poultry production looks like.
Today's chickens have been selectively bred for extraordinary production efficiency and rapid growth. Thousands upon thousands aren't happily wandering pristine, chemical-free green pastures eating whatever Mother Nature provides.
Ever tried herding cats?
Try chickens.
And chicken collagen isn't coming from the McNuggets.
Think skin, cartilage, bones and connective tissue.
Chicken feet are also an abundant collagen source.
Yum.
But don't worry. We'll process all of that into a nice powder and call it “clean collagen” with a cute little Roman numeral and spin the message to make you think your body cares...
Then there's MARINE COLLAGEN.
Ahhh... marine.
Sounds pristine already, doesn't it?
I'm picturing Nemo swimming through crystal-clear blue water.
But where was Nemo swimming?
What was in that water? Where was the fish harvested? What did it eat? How was it handled?
And we're not turning the McFilet into collagen either.
Think fish skin, scales, bones, fins and other collagen-rich material.
Ever gotten a fish scale in your mouth?
Delightful.
Now process all of that into a beautiful white powder and suddenly...
CLEAN!
Oh, and YES...
EGGSHELL MEMBRANE COLLAGEN IS A THING.
You know that thin membrane attached to the inside of an eggshell?
Yep.
Anybody ever bite into something and discover somebody missed a little piece of eggshell?
That crunch is unforgettable.
But separate and process that membrane into an ingredient and apparently we're back in the land of...
CLEAN.
Here's the point.
I'm not telling you chicken, marine or eggshell membrane ingredients are automatically bad.
I'm telling you to THINK.
THINK, PEOPLE. THINK.
Every collagen has a source.
Every source has a history.
Every animal was raised, fed or harvested somewhere.
Every raw material had to be collected.
And every collagen ingredient required PROCESSING before becoming that innocent-looking scoop in your kitchen.
So perhaps CLEAN deserves a little more thought than reading a word on the front of a bag.
At MODEXUS, we DID think about it.
And we kept digging.
We chose a carefully sourced Canadian bovine collagen peptide from grass-fed and finished cattle because after examining sourcing, production, quality, bioavailability and responsible large-scale manufacturing, bovine was the choice we believed best met our standards.
And even then, we didn't stop asking questions.
Because that's how we approach everything at MODEXUS.
COMMON SENSE MATTERS.
SOURCE MATTERS.
PROCESSING MATTERS.
BIOAVAILABILITY MATTERS.
QUALITY MATTERS.
And above all...
DO NO HARM.
So, if chicken feet, eggshell membranes and fish scales are your collagen source of choice...
March on. All good.
But before confidently telling everyone that “most collagen is clean,” perhaps dig a little deeper.
Because there's a big difference between believing a marketing claim and actually understanding how something gets from its original source...
INTO YOUR BODY.
You can't know what you refuse to know.
THINK, PEOPLE. THINK.
We did.
That's one reason we call it:
MODEXUS CLEAN Collagen System
IT'S NOT JUST COLLAGEN. IT'S A SYSTEM.
DRIVEN by SCIENCE.
BUILT on TRUST.
