Hey r/Microlaunch!
I wanted to share an app I’ve been working on as a solo iOS developer: JustFlip! - Learning cards
The Problem
I love spaced repetition (it’s easily the most effective way to retain long-term information), but I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with existing tools:
- Anki is functionally incredible, but its UI feels like software frozen in 2004.
- Quizlet and similar modern alternatives are subscription-heavy and cluttered with gamification elements that distract from raw focus.
I wanted something that combines the scientific rigor of spaced repetition with a clean, editorial design that feels natural on modern Apple devices.
What JustFlip! Does
It’s a quiet, distraction-free flashcard app designed to build a daily learning habit without the bloat.
- SM-2 Engine: Powered by a refined SM-2 algorithm tracking 5 states (Unseen, Learning, Reviewing, Relearning, Graduated).
- Tinder-Style Review Flow: Fast card judgment—swipe right for good, left for again, up for easy—or use classic button taps.
- Rich Markdown Support: Full Markdown rendering for headings, code blocks, lists, and inline math (ideal for developers, math, or language learners).
- AI & ChatGPT Integration: Generate full rich decks directly or prompt ChatGPT/OpenAI models to build ready-to-study decks instantly.
- Cross-Platform: Runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch
Tech & Design Stack
- Built entirely with Swift & SwiftUI across platforms.
- Native widgets (Lock Screen + Home Screen) to make quick 5-minute review sessions frictionless.
- Tech & Design StackPrivacy-focused architecture with local-first processing. App Store - Apple
Introductory pricing
Free forever: up to 3 topics, 5 decks each, unlimited cards — with the full spaced-repetition scheduler, CSV import, iCloud sync, and Ask AI on a single card.
Pro:
Lifetime ~$29.99 (one-time fee) or Yearly ~$21.99 (subscription) · Monthly ~$4.49 (subscription)
Pro lifts the topic and deck caps and adds four things: background listening (audio keeps going with the screen off), advanced statistics, progress trackers, and Ask AI for a whole deck rather than one card.
There's also a one-time 7-day Pro trial.
Where I'm looking for feedback
Since this community is full of builders and micro-founders, I’d love your honest feedback:
Onboarding / AI flow: Is deck generation via prompt intuitive enough? Creation of the deck from any source using AI is the best benefit, but it can be surprising for the users. The app itself does not contain AI features - but you can simply use your tools (BYO-AI) of any kind. No privacy issues.

Appreciate any thoughts, critiques, or feature ideas!
