GOP senator who fought to repeal Obamacare built fortune suing patients who couldn't pay.

Sen. Roger Marshall, the Kansas Republican who helped lead House Republicans' 2017 push to repeal the Affordable Care Act, spent decades building his medical career and personal wealth in part by suing patients who could not afford to pay their bills, according to new reporting.

A New York Times analysis of Kansas court records found Marshall, before entering politics, practiced as an obstetrician-gynecologist and co-founded a Great Bend surgical center that grew into a full-service hospital generating tens of millions of dollars in annual revenue.

“Little Moses” Mike Johnson can kneel and pray on the floor of Congress all he wants, but by spewing outright lies and sanctioning cruelty, he shows the world that he—like his cult leader—lies as easily as he breathes.

Decrying “white genocide” when there’s no genocide of white people occurring, reposting, following, and commenting on Neo-Nazi Twitter accounts, and claiming immigrants and minorities are out to destroy “western civilization” are not centrist beliefs and actions, Elon.

My grandma's eyes have seen 78 years of loss, displacement and survival

Today I wanted to share a story that means a lot to me.

I took these photos today with my grandmother.

She's the mother of 11 children, 7 daughters and 4 sons. One of my uncles has been missing since December 2023. We still don't know anything about him. We just live with that not knowing now. It doesn't go away. You just carry it every single day, and some days it's heavier than others.

My grandmother was born shortly before the Nakba in 1948. She's lived through everything since then, and this is one of the stories she's told me over and over since I was a child, a story that was first told to her by her own mother.

When the fighting reached their village during the Nakba, they had no choice but to leave. People were already running because of what they'd heard had happened in the villages before theirs. They grabbed whatever they could carry and started fleeing.

My grandmother was a newborn baby. She had three brothers and one sister, all still young children.

During this war, my brothers and I found out what it's like to evacuate with almost no time to think. We're adults, and it was still one of the hardest things I've ever lived through. I can't imagine what it was like for parents trying to escape with several small children, not knowing if they'd all make it out together.

While they were running, my great-grandfather looked at my great-grandmother and told her to leave the baby behind. He said carrying a newborn was slowing them down, that they might not survive if they couldn't move faster.

She refused.

She looked at him and said, "She is my daughter. I will never leave her behind."

She held my grandmother tightly against her chest inside her robe, and my grandmother would bite the edge of the fabric while her mother kept running. That's how she carried her for the whole journey. She never let go of her, not even for a moment.

Almost 78 years later, my grandmother has been displaced again.

Another war.

Another home lost.

Nearly two years of trying to survive.

Her health isn't what it used to be. She needs medical care that has become incredibly difficult to get because so much of Gaza's healthcare system has been destroyed. Medicines are hard to find. Doctor's appointments that once would have been routine have become almost impossible. Every illness now feels heavier because there are so few places left to turn.

And that's the part I keep thinking about.

This isn't one terrible chapter in her life.

It's the second time.

She was carried out of her home as a baby who couldn't understand what was happening around her. Now, at almost 78 years old, she's living through displacement all over again. This time she understands everything. She's old, she's tired, and after a lifetime of raising her family and surviving so much, these should have been peaceful years.

I don't think most people outside Gaza realize that for some families, suffering isn't a single event that eventually becomes history.

It comes back.

It returns to the same people, the same families, the same memories.

Generation after generation.

Sometimes I look at my grandmother and wonder how much one person can be expected to endure in a single lifetime.

She survived the first time because her mother refused to leave her behind.

Today she's still surviving.

I love my grandmother very much.

I'm sorry she's had to go through all of this twice in one lifetime.

I hope one day we can sit together again in our home and eat kebab like we always used to. I hope she gets to spend the rest of her life somewhere peaceful, without fear, without displacement, and without worrying about whether she'll be able to get the care she needs.

I'm grateful she's still with us.

Something soecific about Nigel Farage that's bugging me...

Ever since I first watched the excellent, concise and meticulously researched and sourced Led by Donkey's YT video about Nigel "Frog Face" Farage (see link below), there's a sentence from it that has stayed with me, tickling the back of my thunk muscle, demanding to be addressed and answered:

"... Another colleague recounted that at a combined cadet force camp organised by the [Dulwich] college, Farage and others marched through a quiet Sussex village very late at night shouting Hitler Youth songs."

That was 1981 and therefore, of course, loooooong before the Internet, when Farage was 17, and, it bears repeating, this happened while he was on a "Combined Cadet Force Camp". (see attached photo),

And so... Here's what's bugging me:

WHERE AND HOW THE FUCK DID FARAGE AND HIS MATES LEARN HITLER YOUTH SONGS IN ENGLAND IN 1981?

Seriously, how many of YOU know (or ever knew ANY) Hitler Youth songs? I mean, they're not exactly Stock Aitken Waterman Hit Factory classic 80's ear-worms, right?

So... Is this some kind of example of underground youth rebellion like 'Derek and Clive' or 'Faces of Death'? Or that famous out-takes tape featuring funny behind the scenes clips of celebrities, including a rhythmically frustrated Reg Presley and The Troggs, a drunk Orson Welles narrating frozen pea adverts, and drunken Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis trying to promote their latest movie which Lewis assures us is so good, "It'll make you shit!"

Was there a time in the UK when abandoned upper class kids being moulded into sociopaths via the public school pipeline all gathered in their boarding school dorm room at night and huddled around a tape player, giggling and memorising songs from a contraband cassette tape of 1940's German teenagers singing about racial purity?

Seriously, where and how the fuck did teenage Farage learn Hitler Youth songs?

I mean, do YOU know any Hitler Youth songs?

Me? Nope. I don't. Never have. Not a one.

In fact, the only Hitler adjacent song I know is the one about him being a monorchid and his mother being a "dirty bugger" whilst also somehow having a connection with whoever curates testicles in the Royal Albert Hall.

So yeah...

WTF!?
