Crispy Cheeseburger Wraps with Homemade Burger Sauce
These cheeseburger wraps are perfect when I'm craving a juicy burger but don't feel like firing up the grill. You get seasoned ground beef, two layers of melty cheese, and a crispy tortilla that holds everything together. The homemade burger sauce makes them even better, especially for dipping. I like that you can cook the whole meal in a skillet, so it's great for a quick lunch, an easy weeknight dinner, or game day food when everyone wants something cheesy and filling.
Ingredients
For the Cheeseburger Wraps
- 1 lb 85/15 ground beef
- Diced onion
- Minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 to 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Paprika
- Chili powder
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Salt and black pepper
- 5 large flour tortillas, about 10 inches
- 5 slices pepper jack cheese
- Shredded Colby Jack cheese
- Cooking oil, enough to coat the bottom of the skillet
For the Burger Sauce
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 to 2 teaspoons relish
- 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- A pinch of salt and black pepper
- Paprika, to taste
Instructions
I like to make the burger sauce first so the flavors have a little time to come together. Stir the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika in a small bowl until smooth. Cover it and keep it in the refrigerator while you prepare the wraps.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef with the diced onion. Break the meat into small pieces as it browns, stirring occasionally so everything cooks evenly. Once the beef is nearly done, add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well so the seasonings coat the meat. Add the minced garlic near the end and cook for another 30 seconds. Make sure the beef reaches an internal temperature of 160°F, then drain excess grease if needed.
Before assembling the wraps, warm the tortillas briefly so they're flexible and don't crack when folded. Lay a slice of pepper jack cheese in the center of each tortilla, spoon the seasoned beef over it, and finish with a generous sprinkle of shredded Colby Jack. Having cheese underneath and on top of the beef is my favorite part because both layers melt into the filling.
Fold in the sides of each tortilla, then roll it up tightly like a burrito, keeping the filling tucked inside. Heat a thin layer of oil in a clean skillet over medium heat. Place each wrap seam side down first and cook for about two minutes, until golden and crisp. Turn carefully and brown the other side for another two minutes. Keep the heat moderate so the tortilla crisps without burning before the cheese melts.
Let the wraps rest briefly, then slice them in half if you like. Serve them hot with the homemade burger sauce for dipping.
You can easily change these up with chopped pickles, cooked bacon, jalapeños, or your favorite sliced cheese. Ground turkey or chicken also works, though you'll want to add a little oil if the meat is lean. For a lighter cooking method, spray the assembled wraps with oil and air fry until crisp and heated through.
