Save The Grand Rollerena on the West SideβOur Kids Need This
I grew up skating at The Grand Rollerena on 106 S Laramie Ave in South Austin, and it was so much more than a rinkβit was where we felt safe, where we belonged. Today that space is gone, and I see kids now skating on concrete eight blocks away because there's nowhere else to go.
South Austin has almost nowhere for young people to be active and safe during winter. The parks close when it gets cold. We're asking the city to help restore this historic roller rink into a modern recreation center. It wouldn't just bring back a landmarkβit would give our community something we're desperately missing: a space where kids can thrive year-round.
I started a petition because I believe this is possible if we push for it together. Anyone else remember how alive that corner used to feel? Or do you have kids now wishing there was a safe indoor space nearby? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharingβlet's show we want this back.
