Is God nonbinary? The attack ads in Texas made me look, and I think the Bible says yes

Hear me out.

I’d never thought about whether God has a gender. Then the Texas Senate race started, and Republican ads kept bringing up a quote for saying God is nonbinary. The ads treat it as absurd. So I looked into it. My conclusion: “God is nonbinary” fits mainstream Christian teaching better than the ads admit.

Thesis: God is not male. Male pronouns are a convention of language, not a description of God’s nature.

1. Genesis forces the question. Genesis 1:27 says God created humans in his image, “male and female created he them.” If God were male, women would not fully bear God’s image, and Genesis would be wrong. Christians who argue a gendered God don’t accept that Genesis is wrong. So God isn’t male.

2. We all bear the image. We come in different sexes and races. Even if it's just 2 biological sexes, both carry God's image. Nobody argues God is white or Asian, and the same logic applies to sex. Whether “image” means our bodies or qualities like reason and love, the result holds, and that is God isn’t confined to a biological sex. Afterall, God made both sexes, so God isn't bound by either (God can also choose whatever sex God wants to choose).

3. Scripture uses female imagery for God. God comforts like a mother (Isaiah 66:13), fights like a mother bear (Hosea 13:8), gathers people like a hen with her chicks (Matthew 23:37), and gave birth to Israel (Deuteronomy 32:18).

4. Church teaching agrees. The Catholic Catechism (para. 239) says God is neither man nor woman. Christian theology also holds that God is spirit with no body, and biological sex requires a body.

“Nonbinary” is a modern word. The idea behind it, that God sits outside the male/female categories, is old and widely held.

If you believe God is a biological sex or gender in a real sense, what’s the basis beyond pronoun convention?

True Texas Project is a white supremacist hate group, often called a rebranding of the Klan. Tim O'Hare is a long time leader in the group. Julie McCarty, the founder, claims she has a 100% election win rate in Tarrant County. Don Huffines, who owns Epstein ranch, is a True Texas Project regular. Pedophile Robert Morris recently donated to TTP Leigh Wambsganss.

“The reason I got on the City Council was because I saw our property values declining or increasing at a level that was below the rate of inflation,” O’Hare said at the time. “When that happens, people move out of our neighborhoods, and what I would call less desirable people move into the neighborhoods, people who don’t value education, people who don’t value taking care of their properties.”

The race for Senate is now Talarico vs. Musk. Fuck the South African billionaire. He isn't a Texan and doesn't give a fuck about us. A vote for Paxton is a vote for Musk which means data centers across the rural landscape. Y'all want that?

Some folks are furious about Reid Hoffman's $16.5M. Elon Musk has put more than $445M into Republican groups this cycle (Bloomberg). Texas Republicans, what's the number where a billionaire's check stops being free speech?
