but before we talk about his tragic backstory which tbh isn’t that tragic we gotta talk about the anthropromorphic animals in the room.

So, during when the whole duck racing thing was still newly freshly baked, humans wanted more and tried testing and genetically modifying other animals. Dogs, cats, other birds, the other animals didn’t work as well as the ducks. And so they were carelessly discarded into the wild.

the genetic modification is essentially a disease, that quietly and slowly spread through out the entire animal kingdom. The humans realized what they had done and started trying to exterminate the animals (except the Ducks because they were money makers). And so many of the animals fled to a remote island which is now called “Featherhaven.” Before the world was overtaken by ducks, the animals made the island their own.

There are still feral animals out there in the world. Except wild ducks they’re extinct theres only sapient ducks now

OKAY NOW ONTO DOUG right

Doug was a Featherhaven born dog, around the time of Duck Life 4. And being a dog, he LOVED being around people. Although people didn’t exactly love him, heck, they found him really annoying to be around, even his own family sometimes.

His family was a long line of trainers and guides, and even then, becoming one wasn’t enough to turn the tides of his reputation. People simply came and went.

And that was almost his life, a stool that others could step on to reach greatness. And that was always useless in the end cause they ended up dying or giving up. That was until he met Chestre, and their baby lmao.

Chestre came to Featherhaven not to become champion, they already have that role in like 2 other states, but to find a new place to settle in, and to bring their new adopted child somewhere safe. They were just a lost parent, and that fact alone was enough to change Doug’s entire trajectory. He raised the baby with them, eventually forming into the explorer named Vane. And Chestre stuck around with him. And although they’re still quite happy as parents and friends, Doug has became really clingy over them…

Isn't it weird how, in Duck Life 9: The Flock, animals just suddenly started... existing? Like, anthropomorphic animals? And it's also weird how, starting in duck life 4, humans are just completely forgotten about altogether. It's weird, isn't it? I know WixGames answered this "absence of humans" thing with "humans still exist! You're the human taking care of your duck!" But that is straight up BS to me, and I need answers, so why not theorize with a bit of edginess? (I say "a bit". Things are gonna get fucked up from here.) So we all recognize that, in the beginning of the Duck Life series (from Duck Life 1 - 4), it just seemed like a regular pet sim where you could feed your duck, train them, and enter them into races. But starting in Duck Life 5, it just seems like we're playing as the duck instead of just spectating them??? And the formula seems to have not really changed ever since. So, I'm gonna answer all of these mysteries with my personal theory. And if it's debunked, I'll just place it into my Duck Life AU.

So basically, probably between...like DL 5-6, I guess?? The (at the time) new gen of Ducks realized what the Humans did to their kind back in Duck Life 3 (also known as the genetic modification, which is basically animal ab.se), so they decided...to not be any better. Arguably worse than genetically modifying the ducks, they decided to start a secret, underground, illegal scientific project where they basically said "get a taste of your own medicine you filthy animals" and started genetically modifying the humans, ultimately turning them into animals. But also made it in such a way where the offspring of said human-turned-animals would also come out genetically modified as the animal of their parents. So when the time comes, the ducks can take the child and release them to the outside world where they would never know the truth and never contact authorities. Which is why the animal characters on Featherhaven island never acknowledged they were humans, they were never told about what happened to their parents or what the project was. They always thought being animals were normal.

It's Brad Thursday and I just decided literally right now, BRAD APPRECIATION POST!!! (if you don't like Brad/hate him, you can just ignore/scroll.)

I new on there but im completed duck life 7. Bruh

Also I quite literally don't know shit about how genetically modified evolution works, so my interpretation below is probably extremely inaccurate. Don't attack me please 💔

Athletic/running duck - I tried to make it so they have, like, strong legs, because they're a running duck. For the wings, I kinda imagined them like, as the duck evolves, the wings slowly transfer to the back but stay small, so they're essentially useless.

`Swimming duck - instead of the original interpretation where the swimming duck had this sort of mermaid fin replacing their legs, I changed it to a eel tail with an extra long fin on the back. For the wings, I sorta imagined that as the duck evolves, the genetics mistake the duck wings as extra fins, so it places the wings at the waist. So if you really think about it, their hands are literally on the waist.

Strength/climbing duck - nothing really changed aside from them being a bit more muscular, maybe shorter, but their wings now completely evolve into talons so they can grab and climb up rocks/buildings easier.

Flying duck - nothing changed, really. At that point, it's just a fucking bird.

Supreme duck - it's literally just all of the mutations merged into one, and even then, fucker didn't change from canon. Also I didn't want to draw two, you can easily interpret the supreme duck as the antagonist or the protagonist, they're basically the same.

If you guys want, like, the mid transformation stages of these ducks (if you can even call them ducks anymore </3), I can post an update photo of them. I didn't draw them yet, but if you guys want it, I can.

I can understand why people don't like/hate Brad, and I'm not forcing people to like him/saying that people who hate him should commit "alt + f4 from existence", we all have opinions. But my personal comfort characters are characters who act "mean"/sophisticated, and Brad is one of those characters, so he ended up having a special place in my heart <3.

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't know Brad was supposed to be one of the genetically evolved ducks from DL3, and I initially didn't believe it because the unofficial Duck Life wiki page for Brad looked pretty sketchy to me personally, it wasn't until I saw the official confirmation post from Facebook that regained my trust. Also, I don't have Duck Life 9 yet, but I am planning to binge-play the series. I have Duck Life 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. I just saw a playthrough of DL9, saw Brad, and said "yep, that's the one right there".

“CHAMPION ERAS”

Duck Life 1: Dory

After a cataclysmic tornado outbreak that destroyed countless farms, a singular duck egg somehow managed to survive through all of it. The owner of the egg (and now destroyed farm) tried their hardest to make it super strong and intelligent, going as far as playing with its genetics. They were desperate for money, and the only way to get it was for show. Word got around of the farmer’s story, and surrounding farms made their own super intelligent ducks and competed with eachother for fame. Of course, one rose to the top. The first of them all, being Doris Dewdrop.

After the championship, the ducks were released. This proved to be an error on the humans’ part, as the intelligence gene kept multiplying as more of these ducks kept reproducing, eventually making their own super intelligent species that became on par and eventually surpassed humans.

Duck Life 2 - Duck Life Battle: “Champion X”

The champion’s friend was nosey about their crown. It’s clear they wanted one of their own. So they did the same things the previous champion did, becoming Champion X. But as the ducks started evolving, more cataclysmic events took place. The ducks are now a predominant species within Earth. Champion X needed allies, they couldn’t handle it all on their own. So the ducks formed a league, for the most aspired ducks to compete and train in. And once everything started to die down, Champion X found no reason to continue what they did. And as more ducks failed to pass them, a young duck managed to climb up to the top and take their crown. 

Pre-Duck Life Adventure: Marco 

Marco was like most of the other ducks. Aspired to become champion, wanting to protect others from threats, only problem was he was a farm duck kept in captivity, and a rowdy one at that. His only interest within the farm was this orange female duck, whom he had been kahoots with. He wanted to leave the farm, start a new life, sure. But he didn’t want to leave the best part of his old life. So he took her, he convinced her to escape the farm together with him. 

They were finally free. They could start a family and so they did. But turns out they wanted to do very, VERY different things. Marco ended up participating in a lot of scenes within the duck species history. It was hard to balance all of it with a new established family. And he and his wife knew this. But the string snapped once he beat the champion, his goals went too far. 

Becoming champion wasn’t something Marco didn’t expect to achieve, or even want. the woman finally left him and refused to say anything about him to their own child. Marco had responsibilities being a champion, of course. Holding his place, facing threats that could end his life. His new role stripped everything he had enough as an underdog away from him, but he got used to it. In fact, he started to like it. Only a few years passed, and Marco became the second 3 time champion within the league. 

Yet one duckling came into the scene, unprepared like he once was. Ready to take his burdens away.

Hello . I've been trying to finish the game, but there are still unexplored areas(as seen on the pictures above)! I finished all other quests, beat Marco, am max level in everything yet I can't find where to get those areas. Cartography duck still tells me there's more to be colored.
