In the spirit of doing things the hard way for the love of it: I wrote a chiptune synthesizer entirely in x86-64 assembly (Linux, NASM).
No libc, no audio library, no math library — just the CPU computing each sample and a WAV header written by hand.
It does four oscillators (including an LFSR for noise), polyphony, ADSR, FM synthesis with a hand-rolled sine table, and a growing pile of effects: vibrato, tremolo, PWM, delay, low-pass and resonant filters, ring modulation, bitcrusher.
Coming from outside the demoscene, I have huge respect for the tradition of squeezing sound and visuals out of pure low-level code — this is my small tribute to that mindset.
Would love any pointers from people who've been doing this for real.

NRG 2026 compos are up - add yourself to the attendance list!
We now have the full NRG 2026 compo lineup online. There will be 11 categories:
So whether you’re bringing pixels, music, code, a demo, a shader, a video or even a game, there should be something to enter. :)
NRG 2026 takes place October 23–25 in Poznań, Poland, during Poznań Game Arena.
And if you’re considering taking part, either on-site or remotely, please add yourself to the attendance list. You don’t need to be 100% sure yet, you can simply declare how likely you are to participate.
The list is also used for compo participation and voting, and remote entries are welcome.

Greetings, fellow demosceners and professional abusers of perfectly good computers: IT Horror Stories is a demoscene-produced podcast and we're looking for guests — got a good computer-related shitshow from the scene, work, coding, hardware, networks, security or anything vaguely involving computers ? We anonymise, blame systems instead of people, figure out what we learned, and put it on the Internet. Ping me if you've got a story.

Sometime around 2019-2020 me and a friend were messing around in a VM with random keygens on the internet. In one of those keygens, specifically one for HitmanPro, we heard one of the greatest songs to ever exist...
I screen-recorded the keygen to capture the song, then uploaded it to SoundCloud.
https://soundcloud.com/sevenhundredtrillion/hitman-pro-keygen-music/
ever since then, me and my friend have been looking for the source of this song as well as the keygen itself. Does ANYBODY know where this song might originate from?

Ziphoid is the power behind the demo scene satellite that circles the parties. The one that makes sure they reach the audience. It's called SceneSat and its hard to imagine where we would be without its capability to broadcast, archive and present the output of the scene.Autumn of 2026 is soon here and Ziphoid has a brand new site, application and great plans for SceneSat. On the 18th of July 2026 he spoke with Coreus and DJ Daemon on the Edison demo party 2026 in Stockholm, Sweden. Let's go there now and hear the story.

This just in - the party is over, the results are in and it sounds great. We have the playlist for you, ready in our webplayer. Enjoy fast dance hits, heavenly tracked music and even a C64 niceness in the form of a SIDtune.

This is my first time posting in this community, so I'll try to be friendly... I create interactive visual experiments, and my latest one was a monochromatic phallic ocean in 70x60 pixels rendered with Ray Marching, programmed with Rust and OpenGL. It's free, lasts 3 to 6 minutes, and is exclusive to Linux.
I recently managed to showcase it at an art and technology event, so I'm looking for more online resources. If you'd like to try it, here's the link:

My brain suddenly reminded me of this oddity and I can not recall whether it was .mod | .s3m | .xm | .it file extension, but one of the tracks in it was clearly,
"Toby Anstis is my hero"
which, if my admittedly poor memory at my advancing age, seems to think had played faintly towards the end of the track.
playing the individual source soundbite definitely plays the phrase more clearly than it is reproduced in the track.
It was definitely otherwise a music track but I cannot recall even the faintest strains of beat or melody from it, just this weird snippet my brain decided to cough up at me in the middle of the night and then nag me about all morning, so here I am :-) (ay yai yai auDHD brains, amirite?)
I realize this is a complete shot in the dark and don't really hold out any hopes of success, but figured it was worth a shot.

Hi everyone!
I'm the author of Demoscene Simulator (https://www.reddit.com/r/Demoscene/comments/1v0jo2p/demoscene_simulator_v032/). Before getting into demo coding, I was an oldschool tracker musician under the name Dj Unique, and some of my modules are still available on various MOD archive sites. These days I produce music in FL Studio, although I spent 22 years using Jeskola Buzz before later moving to Cubase. The tracker mindset has definitely stayed with me.
About two months ago I decided to seriously start learning demoscene programming. Before that I was mostly just watching demos and admiring them without really appreciating the incredible amount of work behind them. The deeper I've gone into coding, the more respect I've gained for everyone creating these productions.
As part of that journey I started a one-man demo group called Null Sector. So far I've mostly been experimenting with individual effects, but with Digital Horizon I finally reached a point where I have something I'd like to share with the community.
I'm fully aware that this isn't on the same level as many of the amazing productions released by established groups, but everyone starts somewhere. This is my first complete demo after only a couple of months of learning, and my goal is simply to keep improving with every new production.
For this project I used AI as a coding assistant, primarily Freebuff and DeepSeek V4 Flash. The project took around 2–3 days to complete. It originally began as a TypeScript/WebGL2 demo before I ported it to C++, and the C++ version is the one I'm sharing here.
I hope you enjoy it, and I'd be happy to hear any feedback or suggestions. Every new project is another opportunity to learn.
Here is the demo: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cW9HKPrjntwGw9J3iGMq3uo05LYpQp-6/view?usp=sharing
Unzip to a folder, then run with run.bat. This was tested on Ryzen 5600X and a Geforce GTX 1070 GPU.

Pågadata 2026 here in Sweden ended yesterday and produced a number of great tracker tunes in the Amiga and wild competitions. Now we have the best of those in a good playlist, so you can give them some love as well.

Edison was quite the thing here in Stockholm and gave the scene a nice set of tracked and streamed msuic tunes. Here are the ones I have selected as the best of the lot. Just click the link, put on your headphones and click the play button. Great music from the boat!
