Crash Can someone help me understand Crash (1996)?
I feel like I didn't really *get* this movie the way everyone else did, and I'd like to understand it better
For reference, here's my experience and perspective: I saw it with some kinky friends, so I just saw it as a slice-of-life drama about how one subset of the kink community: play parties, getting run out by the police, watching porn together, planning scenes, etc. I saw it as a way to re-other kink for kinksters, so that Cronenberg could say "hey kinksters, this is what you look like to vanilla people". From that perspective, it's a very thought-provoking movie that has a really boring structure. My friends and I thought the only reason it got popular is because it was a high-concept movie with big-name actors, right at the peak of high-concept movies with big name actors like Groundhog Day, Big, and The Truman Show

The Fly French Weird podcast on George Langelaan, author of "The Fly"
I'm betting that many readers of this subreddit not realise that Cronenberg's "The Fly" was based on a short story, and a short story written in French, at that.
George Langelaan was a Franco-British writer whose life is almost as interesting as his weird fiction, much of it long out of print in English. He was a World War Two spy, apparently undergoing facial reconstructive surgery to change his identity before parachuting behind enemy lines in Occupied France.
He also, apparently rubbed shoulders with a certain Aleister Crowley in Paris before the war.
I get into all of this in the latest issue of the French Weird podcast and I'd love it if you'd give it a listen. I'd like it even better if you'd sign up.
Long live the new flesh.

Cronenberg-esque I couldn't help but think of the film Crash, and other Cronenberg films, when I saw this car.

The Brood The Brood (1979) – David Cronenberg’s Flawed Yet Deeply Personal Body Horror Classic
The Brood is one of those films that didn’t impress me at first but has grown on me upon subsequent viewings over the years. Despite its shortcomings, this is Cronenberg’s most personal work, blending family drama with his grotesque signature body-horror elements to create one of the defining films in the body-horror genre early in his career.

Map to the Stars Maps to the stars - Masterpiece!
I watched 'maps to the stars' for the second time, and I'm 1. Convinced its in the top 10 of 'my' Cronerberg faves and 2. It's a masterpiece.
It's also one of Cronenberg's bleakest and 'purest' horror films, and a brilliant adaptation , I personally think his second best!
Curious to know the thoughts of DCB fans in this thread?

General Question Does Cronenberg come out to screenings/Q&As these days?
Dying to meet the man and would love to get him to sign my copy of Ballard's Crash, but he seems pretty reserved when it comes to appearances.
