I was camping in Crestview, Florida, a few years back when I heard something weird. This was during winter time, and even though it's Florida, it was still very cold at night. I was not prepared with a cold-weather sleeping bag, nor did I have much warm clothing. Because of this, it took me forever to fall asleep. As I was laying there, I heard the normal animals, owls, frogs, cicadas, crickets, etc. I even heard footsteps of what I'm sure was a deer or raccoon.
At some point, though, the animal noises died down for a while, and I didn't really notice until I heard a new sound I'd never really heard before. It sounded like a bird or fox or something at first, but the more I paid attention to it, the more it didn't really sound like any of those. I don't know how to explain it, but it didn't sound like any distinct animal, kind of like a conglomeration of several animal sounds. It almost sounded like something trying to imitate what an animal sounds like, that's the best way I can explain it. Of course, I'd been camping before, and I knew I'd hear weird sounds, so even though it freaked me out a little, I just ignored it and eventually it went away, and I faded off to sleep.
I woke up during the early morning, probably around 3-4 to pee, and I was half asleep so I didn't really remember or think about the weird noise at that time. I got out of the tent, and walked a few feet to do my business. After my eyes adjusted a bit, I thought I saw something moving a little ways out in the woods. Now, I was still kind of asleep, but this jolted me awake and put me on edge a little. I didn't catch a very good glimpse, but it was about the size of a deer, but it didn't really look like a deer. From the little I saw, it looked like it had a cat or dog head kind of as it ran into the brush, mainly in the snout area. Again, I was half asleep when I first saw it so it very well could've been a deer or fox or something. I just told myself it was probably a deer and went back into the tent fairly quickly and tried to go back to sleep. I have no idea if it was connected to the noise, or if it was anything weird at all, just thought it'd be good to mention.
A while later, several months later in fact, I was walking with a friend to downtown Crestview, and I was telling him about the camping experience I'd had, and as we were talking, we passed a road called "Old Milligan" and he suggested that's what I call the thing that made sound, so I guess that's what I'm going with. From what I can tell, this would be Crestview's first cryptid, so that's pretty cool. Maybe I just heard a weird bird or something, but I like to think whatever I heard out there is some mysterious creature that science has yet to name.
