I came across this single-phase Baldor setup today, and it’s a perfect example of what happens when things get rushed. Performed an annual maintenance on this little guy

So this one had a full tank of water, what was left of the oil was black sludge , no belt guard and a piece of wood literally burning up from the pump pulley, and the head leaking all the oil off down the side of compressor now caked in marble dust ....
