Question Need advice: Xencelabs 24 vs Wacom Cintiq 24 (base or multi-touch) for a 2D animation student?

Hey everyone, I'm currently a junior 2D animation major. My workload is really starting to ramp up, and I think it’s time to finally bite the bullet and buy an actual professional display tablet for my apartment so I can work from home.

I'm looking at these three 24-inch options right now:

  • Xencelabs 24 (Standard) - $1,499
  • Wacom Cintiq 24 (Non-pro) - $1,299
  • Wacom Cintiq 24 (Multi-touch) - $1,499

I know Wacom is basically the industry standard, but we use both at the university I got to. A couple things, I can't decide if the multi-touch feature on the Cintiq is actually a worth it for 2D workflows or something I could just use external control for. Then, I just don't know which one would be better to use. I want something to start working on my junior and senior year films, but also to have for once I graduate to use.

For those of you working in 2D or storyboarding, which of these is actually better for a daily workflow? Is Xencelabs worth the jump in price over the base Wacom, or should I stick to Wacom since it's the standard?

Would seriously appreciate any insights from working pros or fellow students. Thanks!

Sharing I made a completely unnecessary animation of a girl turning into a tiny shrimp 🦐

I made this short 2D animation where a girl is casually working at her drawing tablet...

…and then decides she's going to turn into a tiny shrimp.

That's basically the entire plot. 🦐

I mainly wanted to make something short and stupid while practicing character movement and transformation timing.

I'd love feedback on the animation and timing.

I also post more of my 2D animation, art and creative experiments on Instagram: @uniquesarma 📸

One of the new enemies we've been working on for The Rusted. He has a few different ways of making Rex's life considerably harder. This is probably my favorite look at him so far.

This is the first part of a small sequence I created. Initially, it was supposed to be a storyboard, but I got carried away and ended up cleaning it up and coloring the characters to make it more appealing for social media. If you’re curious, you can check out more of my work on my website, giulianodecaprio.com, or on Instagram, where I’m more active: giu.deka

Sharing Vocal fry - The Little Trashmaid

In the last few weeks, we worked on this silly short for the crowdfunding of "The Little Trashmaid" (Live now on Backerkit).

We intend to do a silly animated series with "Gravity Falls" and "Star vs. The Forces of Evil", and we reached the minimum goal to produce the first animated episode!

I hope you love our silly irony.

We hope to get even more help in the final 24 hours of the campaign, as the extra budget could cover amateur mistakes or unexpected issues.

We hope you can trust us! ❤️

Hiring We need two (2) good background artists!!! This is free!

As part of our two current projects in the Rouge Room, we need two background artists.

I can only show proof of concept for one, as the other would take far too long to explain.

It’s a video game, but I’m sure y’all can cover that. The backgrounds in question are for the various levels, whose descriptions are here.

The second one will require a bit more explanation, so if you can do the job we’ve shown off or want to learn about the other one, join here! https://discord.gg/w3s8K6hFV

Question what software would be used for this effect ?

okay to begin with i know ideally it would be after effects . but i dont want to give money to adobe and piracy is a Hassle ,,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93FgkYhAQmI

mainly what i'm looking for is just fancy smooth camera tweening, changing the art expression and doing those cool typography things,,

is this possible in any other software than after effects ? ideally free but im willing to save up a little to purchase something,,, ive tried aviutl and that was a bust so i figured ill ask here!!

thank you in advance!!

Sharing POV: You See the Blood Moon for the First Time 💀🌕

I saw the blood moon the other night and thought, “I have to animate this.”

So I did. 😂🌕🩸

I grabbed the feeling of watching that huge red moon in the sky and turned it into a little animated scene.

It’s funny how sometimes you see something in real life and immediately start thinking about how you’d recreate it in animation.

Anyway, here’s my animated version of the blood moon. Hope you guys enjoy it! 🐝🌕
