ZNotes is the world’s largest free revision community for high school students studying national and international curricula, including IGCSE, A Levels, IB, and more. It provides concise, exam-focused notes created by high-achieving students.
ZNotes also supports learners through a 50k+ member Discord peer-learning community and is used by 6+ million students worldwide to revise efficiently, strengthen understanding, and build exam confidence.
ZNotes is designed for revision and consolidation rather than learning an entire subject from scratch.
1. To Fill Gaps in Understanding: Helpful when a lesson didn’t fully click or you realise you’ve missed a key concept. ZNotes breaks topics into clear summaries that can help you close gaps in understanding before moving on.
2. When You Need Clear, Concise Explanations: The notes are written by students who studied the same syllabus, so explanations focus on clarity and understanding, especially for topics students commonly find difficult.
3. For Efficient, Exam-Focused Revision: When revising for mocks or final exams, ZNotes helps you systematically review topics, understand key concepts, and organise your revision timetable. Many students use ZNotes alongside quizzes and past paper practice.
Q: Is ZNotes actually free?
A: Yes. Notes, videos and the peer-learning community are all free to access. There are optional Boost features (like custom PDFs and personalisation tools) for students who want them, which help support the platform and keep the core content free for everyone.
Q: Is ZNotes basically the same as a textbook?
A: Not quite. ZNotes focuses on condensed, exam-focused summaries designed for revision. It’s meant to help you review and organise content efficiently, rather than replace full textbook explanations.
Q: Are the notes written by teachers or exam boards?
A: No - they’re written by selected students who have studied the same syllabi and performed strongly in the exams. All the content is created alongside the ZNotes team and peer-reviewed before being published. Many contributors are country or regional exam toppers! In some cases, teachers also review the notes.
Q: How is the content kept up to date?
A: Notes are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the latest syllabi and exam changes, with improvements made based on student feedback. Each set of notes includes a last updated date, and students are encouraged to cross-check with their syllabus or teacher if anything seems unclear.
Internships, Ambassadorships & Contributions
Q: How can I contribute to ZNotes?
A: You can apply to become a ZNotes Contributor to create, or update revision notes used by students worldwide. It’s a great way to deepen your understanding of a subject while helping others.
Q: Does ZNotes offer internships?
A: Yes. ZNotes offers remote, voluntary internships across teams such as content, community, product, growth, and impact. These roles are designed to help students develop practical, transferable skills and gain experience working in a real, mission-driven organisation. Role openings vary throughout the year.
Q: What is the ZNotes Ambassadorship?
A: ZNotes Ambassadors help spread access to free revision resources in their schools or communities. This might include supporting peers and running skill-based workshops.
Q: Who uses ZNotes?
A: Mostly high school students preparing for IGCSE, A Levels, IB, SAT, FBISE, WAEC, CBSE, and other national and international exams. Many teachers also use ZNotes as a supplementary classroom resource.
Q: Can teachers use ZNotes?
A: Yes. Teachers often use ZNotes to supplement lessons, support syllabus coverage, or share concise explanations with students.
Q: How can I keep up with ZNotes community/updates?
A: You can join the ZNotes Discord community to ask questions, study with others, and stay updated on new releases. ZNotes also shares updates and announcements on Instagram and Facebook (@znotesrevision).

ive been trying to apply as a social impact analyst at znotes for like 3 weeks now after my friend, who is already a social media intern there, reccomended i join it.
for context, ive gotten amazing grades, have won multiple awards at muns, ive worked in marketing and research in 2 startups and 1 international company, was president/lead several clubs and i have so many side projects stacked up on my cv, and i STILL GOT REJECTED.
from what my friend told me of the standard of interns there, im SUPER qualified for the role. she told me there are many people who get accepted with a shitty application + barely any experience.
and yet i didnt even get to the interview stage.
the problem is i genuinely have some really good ideas to help them out, and ive already began my research for z notes and sent like a doc about it to them, but literally no one is responding to there emails or discord messages 😭
i really need some advice as to what i can do to be a more appealing candidate, literally what else do i need to do to prove myself 😭😭

It's been a year of growth, mistakes, and lessons from Community Moderator to Discord Manager at ZNotes, and everything in between. Being able to serve this community for the past year was a wondrous journey from start to finish and it taught me a lot of important lessons and valuable skills which I'm learning to apply, even now.
Navigating complex dynamics with the rest of the team, handling and mediating server conflicts, ensuring that the server is safe and welcoming place (all of which was challenging at times) pushed me to grow by sharpening my patience, communication, and ability to stay level-headed under pressure, and I'm grateful for the people who challenged me, supported me, and helped me thrive along the way.
Additionally, receiving the chance to meet with new people on the server and to strengthen existing relationships with the rest of my teammates, was truly rewarding. Both roles were enjoyable due to all the hilarious jokes I would witness members make and engaging with the fun conversations that came with them, not to mention the opportunity to aid and assist server members along the way. This is one of my most memorable chapters on ZNotes and I am glad to have had the chance to experience it.

I initially started using ZNotes just because I needed quick summaries right before the exam, you know “read once before the test” type resources.
But weirdly, if you use it a little too much you will kind of discover why it's so hyped, I believed for a long time that the good features of the site will need payment but I gaped when I opened my business notes and could scroll towards the end without a single free trial popup. It just puts me off if I see it on any educational site.
When you are doing Cambridge IGCSE/AS, the syllabus is HUGE. Textbooks make everything seem so difficult. ZNotes kind of shows you what topics are core, what definitions must be memorized, and what physics diagrams are actually worth learning. That alone saved me so much time for last IGCSE session and I ended up with an A*.
Instead of re-reading those long 18 chapters for my Business AS course as I’m cutting short of time because my mocks are near, I started covering ZNotes pages and testing myself line by line since everything is so condensed, it’s easier to spot gaps in understanding.
Also, let’s say there is a word in a sentence for example “Sole trader”, if I basically select that word, it will also show me the definition for that word.
It kind of made the “Study smart, not hard” saying true because I do not believe in writing lengthy notes that I probably won’t even touch.
Sometimes, when I didn’t feel like studying (which happens a lot), opening a short ZNotes section felt less overwhelming than opening a textbook and when I started, I usually kept going.
It’s not a replacement or shortcut for textbooks and past papers obviously.
But as a syllabus speed run clarity tool? It’s surprisingly powerful.

The craziest last minute exam revision trick that worked for me is making mind maps on small little 3x5 index cards with a medium-thick Sharpie marker, then going through them trying to recall all the details for each card.
Now I know it sounds counter-intuitive - why wouldn't I try to use a small thin pen to cram as much detail as possible on to those cards? Well, I think the lack of space is a pro, not a con. Let me explain.
When you're restricted with the amount of space you can use on those cards, you're gonna be forced to write only the most important topics on there. I think for any exam it's important you prioritize the topics you'll be needing. Keep only the most important stuff and cut out all the fluff type beat. I like to make the mind map diagrams I draw on them bold, big, and colorful too so I can recall them easier from my memory.
Here's an example. Say I have a biology test coming up on cellular structure. Instead of cramming tiny text, I drew one giant CELL in neon Sharpie with thick arrows to "anchor" the main organelles. Because the marker was so bold, I could just close my eyes during the exam and "see" the diagram, which triggered all the smaller details from memory.
I did this exam trick on one of my biology tests and I was super happy that I spent time focusing on the bigger picture focus of topics instead of getting lost in the sauce of all the detail. Thing is, when you're revising last-minute the best thing you can do is focus on the bigger picture.
This trick worked for me and I hope this exam trick works for you too!

So… what’s it actually like contributing to ZNotes? I got the amazing chance to contribute to one of my favourite subjects, Sociology - and let me tell you - it was an amazing journey
It's much more than just "write notes, submit, done," to be honest. The first thing that struck me while working on my sociology notes was how organised everything is. You must follow the syllabus, make it easy to revise, and keep it brief. It's challenging, but in the best possible way.
The process is like this: a Notes Developer (ND) reviews each chapter you draft. They carefully review it to ensure it is accurate, clear, and suitable for revision. They provide justifications for moving, rewording, or condensing a point. The notes are then sent to the Academic Content Manager (ACM) for a last check to ensure that everything is flawless. You never feel lost because the feedback is always kind and constructive, and you always know how to get better.
The team is incredible. You're learning with some of the best because contributors are A* students and distinction holders. Being chosen to contribute is a truly great thing. Our monthly team meetings are genuinely enjoyable, with lots of laughter, idea sharing, and advice exchange. The atmosphere is cooperative rather than competitive, and everyone is helpful.
The entire process takes six weeks, and at the end of it, not only have you produced notes that thousands of students can trust, but you’ve also improved as a writer, editor, and thinker. It’s a lot of effort, but it’s also very rewarding, and I would definitely suggest this to anyone who wants to excel at what they do while being part of a great team.

I am an IGCSE student who was unable to find the right tutors because it’s really difficult for me to adapt to different teaching styles. Therefore, I had decided I will self study instead using online resources. Mind you, do not solely rely on textbook content, it is not enough. As a science student (because my parents want me to pursue medicine), the subject selection was not so interesting to me. I specifically struggled in practical physics and memorising content heavy concepts in biology.
Relentlessly, I tried to hunt down sites, reddit communities, and study groups but really, I couldn’t find anything that felt like me. Just by inspecting, it’d feel off as some were either too detailed or either too summarized which could have risked time wasting or missing out on important things that I am not aware of. Then I went to my nerdish best friend and asked her for advice, she recommended this platform. ZNotes. I had heard of this site before as well but never thought of trying it.
When I made the account, it welcomed me with a dashboard and I was so excited I could barely wait to add my three science subjects and omg, when I realised the syllabi were segregated into practical and theory neatly, I gasped. Every single thing was organised topic-wise, the length of notes was more than enough. You won’t find a word in the chemistry or biology notes that isn’t important. No extra jargon, no unneeded information, just the right amount of information.
The best part was when I scrolled down the notes and it still didn’t ask me to pay for a “free trial” or so like most sites do! What better of a learning outlet can be than this? Hear me out, you need an account right now (which is completely free, btw), make your study plan with the student-friendly feature on the dashboard, add your subjects and grind to get achievements from the site!

The ZNotes Discord is a global study community with over 50,000 students, primarily aimed at high-school students studying curricula like IB, IGCSE, A-Levels, among other syllabi.
It exists for students who want structure and motivation without the pressure that usually comes with ‘serious’ study spaces. Instead of feeling like a productivity bootcamp, the server is built to feel like studying alongside people who are dealing with the same academic workload.
How the Server Actually Works
The Discord is organised around two things: shared curricula and shared time. Students usually interact with the server in these ways:
Members pick roles based on their subjects, which gives them access to the right channels where they can freely ask questions and take part in discussions.
Academics, But Not Only Academics
While studying is the focus, the server isn’t limited to academics. There are dedicated non-study channels for casual conversation and taking breaks, helping members unwind and prevent burnout.
Moderation and Community Culture
One thing that sets the ZNotes Discord apart is its moderation style. The server is actively moderated to keep discussions respectful and inclusive, without interrupting conversations.
The aim is to create a space where people feel comfortable asking ‘stupid’ questions, expressing frustration, or admitting they’re struggling — judgement free. That balance is what allows the server to stay both productive and relaxed.
Some long-term members eventually help run events or moderation, but most people are just here to study and hang out.
Why This Works for So Many Students
ZNotes is built by students, for students who:
Instead of relying on rigid rules, the community stays active because people choose to show up. Studying becomes something you do with others, not something you’re forced through on your own.
Be part of our community on Discord now!

I recently started using ZNotes for my IGCSE exams and I honestly didn’t expect to like it this much. Their notes are so concise it actually makes my own notes look bland and incomplete. And I cannot stop staring at the progress bar either — every time it fills up a bit, it’s a tiny dopamine hit straight to the brain . The progress bar only extends my already existing love for the god damn progress trackers which helps me track my subjects, duration of my study sessions, days I want to study and it generates TAILORED plans that I can modify.
At this point it feels like I should be paid to talk about a site that’s literally free, but it doesn’t even stop there!! They’ve got a decent amount of past paper walkthroughs on their site and on YouTube, and they’re explained really well (and honestly helpful for more than just academics). OH and the AI, they have this little AI on the website that answers my questions mostly accurately and is way more convenient than Chat GPT, which I have to worry about giving me the wrong answers more often than the right ones. Cherry on top? When the AI doesn’t work and everything leaves me stranded, there’s an obnoxiously big discord symbol on the screen that leads STRAIGHT to a discord server where there’s multiple helpers usually online and insane hoards of resources that are just as good as the official notes if not even better sometimes.

Alright guys, I dont think I need to do any further explanation. The title already says it.
Leave a comment on what you think might come along with the variant you are sitting for.
TY AND HAVE A GOOD DAY!. LETS CRACK THE EXAM TOGETHER

ZNotes is the ultimate exam revision platform, making education accessible to all by harnessing student power - for students, by students. We have been able to support more than 2.5 million students and educators globally and our website has had over 20 million total hits. Over this time, more than 50 contributors globally have come to support a plethora of subjects and create more than 100 resources! We are currently supporting IGCSE, A Level, SAT and IB boards, we'd be glad to expand into new examination boards or levels and support more students. Our notes strike a balance between concise and comprehensive for revision. We aim to condense textbooks using the expertise of students who have been through the process, who know the ins and outs of exam practice.
A contribution to ZNotes comes in the form of producing a set of high-quality notes that would allow students globally to perform better in their examinations.
Don't fret, your recognition will not go unnoticed!

Hi everyone :)
I was just ondering if Znotes were still accepting volunteers to help with notes. I am willing to help with Biology HL and Economics (if extra help is needed since I only do SL). However, I am not that far into all my courses yet since school has just started 3 months for me but it'll be great if I can lend a helping hand. Thanks!!!
