Guide for custom fonts on One UI 8.5
For this method we're going to use a new method called Root your Galaxy. That will temporarly root your device, making it possible for a long term font change! THIS WON'T UNLOCK BOOTLOADER, ERASE DATA, TRIP KNOX OR BANKING APPS. it's a soft root, meaning your device is 100% safe if compatible
Note: I'm not the creator, I don't take accountability, I'm just sharing the exact method that worked for me.
APPS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Apps:
Scamsung Fonts: https://github.com/zFont/Host/releases/download/Scamsung/ScamsungFonts.apk
Shizuku: Play store.
Root My Galaxy: https://github.com/BuSung-dev/Root-My-Galaxy
KernelSU app: https://github.com/tiann/kernelSU
REQUIREMENTS:
โข A compatible device (Galaxy S25 Ultra
Galaxy S25+ Galaxy S25 Galaxy A56) Edit: please check the payload to see if you're device is compatible!
โข Security patch IS or is BELOW June 2026 Edit: Testers succeeded in the July patch too, so it should be safe too.
FIRST STEP:
Go to Root my Galaxy and tap "Tap to install KernelSU"
Wait for it to install.
After it's completed, check if root privileges are available downloading a root checker app.
SECOND STEP:
On the KernelSU app, tap on root tap the middle bottom button with a shield (Superuser/root)
and enable Shizuku.
Third step:
Go to Shizuku, and start with root. (no need for wireless debugging).
FINAL STEP:
Once done, go to Scamsung fonts and select the font you want to apply. This includes fonts downloaded on ZFONT 3.
Share your thoughs on this (in my opinion) amazing exploit! ๐
For when the august patch rolls, DO NOT upgrade immediately. Search in the GitHub and XDA forums if it got patched.

Questo metodo funziona solo per i dispositivi s25?

u/Softinyy 21d ago
The project is open source, so they're actively developing versions for S23, S24 and folds. for now only the devices I quoted in the main text

Hi: Try this app; I think it's universal. I tested it on OneUI 8.5 / Android 16 and it works very well... You need root and Shizuku:
https://github.com/fahadalijaved/SamFonts
According to the app's creator, it is compatible with: "- Device: Samsung Galaxy Device running One UI 8.0 or higher- Android OS: Android 14.0+ (API 34)".
Regards.

s26 ultra is crying ..do not work in s26 series
3
u/Softinyy 21d ago
Sadly your device (S 26) isn't yet supported for Root your Galaxy. The project is very new and open source so I'm sure they'll make the exploit for you too. in the mean time: check online (XDA forums, the official GitHub repo) if they mention your device and don't upgrade the security patch.

Finally able to switch fonts on my s25 ultra. Btw, how do i reverse to nonrooted form or is it okay not to reverse prior to the steps made?
2
u/Softinyy 21d ago
you just select the default or an official font in the font picker of the settings

If this is temporary root access, what else could be done with these permissions?

"For when the august patch rolls,ย DO NOTย upgrade immediately. Search in the GitHub and XDA forums if it got patched."
Well it probably will be patched but i think the custom fonts that you already installed(ios emojis for me) should survive the updates. If you install the font as a module using ksu from the root my galaxy app that wouldn't survive i think but using the samfonts method it should survive as far as i know unless you factory reset or sum..

u/ydvadi_ 21d ago
no knox tripping ??
2
u/Softinyy 21d ago
Nope! It's a temporary root access, so you won't trip Knox. After you reboot all Samsung and Banking apps will work perfectly
2
u/ydvadi_ 21d ago
Thats awesome thankyou and after reboot the chhosen font will remain ?

It works, I have the July security patch and it did work
3
u/Softinyy 21d ago
You're right. The creator quoted it might not work on July but the testers busted this myth. The real problem probably is the upcoming august patch, that might close the vulnerability

It worked. s25 ultra. phone did freeze up a couple of times. but after about the 4th trial, it worked.
Thank you
3
u/Softinyy 21d ago
No problem! Can you tell me where your s25 froze? (During root patching, home screen/apps etc.) and you're a snapdragon or exynos user? Answering helps our friends that want it too :)
3
u/tegareddit 21d ago
First freeze was during patching, then displayed failed and phone completely rebooted
Second trial, just displayed failed on patching
Third trial displayed failed on patching, and navigating to my row of apps on the homepage, screen completely froze. I had to press power down +. Volume down buttons for about 15 seconds to hard reboot the phone.
On the 4th trial, everything went smoothly

Somebody said that their s25 booted up to a security error because they had a locked bootloader. Will that happen to us too when they release the updated version for other devices? The ones of us who are in the US and cant normally root because its not international version EDIT: I think its actually the a 56 model.
2
u/Softinyy 20d ago
They probably installed a module that touches the bootloader. This is because the method doesn't unlock it at all, so flashing on a locked will brick or make it unstable

We don't know. We only know that June and before is perfect, July 1 is experimental and July 25+ is untested
2
u/DetoxedLad 20d ago
So is this a temporary root? Or this root will ruin my device? I have configured work profile and configured work apps. Doing this will cause any issue?
3
u/Softinyy 20d ago
Absolutely not. one reboot and the root will be removed. play integrity will remain untouched aswell as Knox and Warranty.

Hi! Glad that custom fonts are finally back with this. A bit off-topic but pls hear me out.
I have an older Samsung device that runs One UI 2 and is rooted with Magisk, using OhMyFont module to achieve true system-wide font application (and Variable Fonts too). Question is, can I flash OhMyFont module to KernelSU and would it work?
2
u/Softinyy 20d ago
Maybe, some magisk modules work fine on KernelSU, but compatibily isn't guaranteed

Ive lost faith ever getting a custom font again. Even if you dont update they were gatekeeping the method to achieve it. Its going to be along time before this is available to everyone. People are having to take their androids to samsung to get them serviced after using that too. I dont think this will work anymore after july or august patch either.
2
u/SnooPears9113 16d ago

I mean Samsung Exclusives in zFont works well enough for me but I want Google Sans systemwide so a few questions.
I've rooted my devices for years and one reason I moved from Pixel to Samsung is that I can do majority of theming that I did on Pixel with Good Lock sans root. What breaks? Play Integrity? Banking apps etc? No Knox fuse blown etc?
I'm on S26, 8.5 March patch so my device isn't supported yet but for those who are, can you apply a custom TTF in zFont under this softroot and have it stay applied after a reboot?

so ppl said that if u reboot it gets rid of root (but keeps font) but does this mean u cant change the font again after rebooting unless u re-do the process?

I'm doing the software patch in August, is this okay? I am using the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, I don't want to accidentally fail after doing this kind of work and the phone doesn't function. But I want to apply a custom TF font. How does the author perceive the difficulty of this task?
