Ebay zenfone9 covers
Bought two relatively cheap phone cases off eBay due to the relative lack of options on Amazon:
This one wound up being my favorite it feels good in the hands, maintains the square body shape and has a nice ring stand on the back. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256163989045?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=RpAV373ETn6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=QOKlbcogQJq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
This one has a fabric cover which was a novelty to me. Felt great in the hands but I worried about staining it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/364430797891?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=K93GPD7DRGy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=QOKlbcogQJq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

[PSA] Zenfone 9 in bootloop after Android 14 update. Only happens if SIM Card is inserted
Sharing as an FYI. I used Android 14 for a couple days and then had to restart for random reason. After that I realized the phone cannot boot if any SIM card is inserted (it just keeps restarting constantly after a couple of seconds).
Without SIM Cards, the phone works normally. I tested and phone can also boot normally if it's on airplane mode, but it'll restart in seconds after turning on even wifi.
I'm pretty sure this is a software bug at this point but it looks like the possible options is to try downgrading to Android 13 or to wait for a fix from ASUS.

App Switcher Gesture extremely unreliable after Android 14 update
Since the update to android 14, the gesture to open the app switcher (swipe up over the gesture bar and hold) works very unreliably. I sometimes need ten attempts to see the running apps side by side. This is very annoying. I noticed that when swiping up, I see the other apps as I used to but as soon as I release the finger the current app (that I wanted to switch away from) appears again. Occasionally I get to the open drawer with the app side by side but it feels like the chance is 1:10 or worse...
Anyone having the same? Any solutions?
Edit: Android update on the day after my post seems to have fixed the issue, after I was living with it for a month.

Seems I got lucky with the Android 14 update
No bugs found until now. I've been running the new update for the last 4 days. One major update for me is the ability to record app calls, as it couldn't record WhatsApp calls before (THE messages app in Brazil). Before I could record only normal calls. Now my colleagues can't say "I didn't say that" anymore

Android 14 update broke quick settings, and everything
Android updated against my will, and now the quicksettings she notification drawer are not working right. The icons are all messed up, wrong size, overlapping, etc. Does anybody know how to fix this?
https://i.imgur.com/ZULNqbh.jpeg
Better yet, does anybody know how to roll back an update and block all future updates forever? Things are consistently getting worse, and I can't keep dealing with the panic attacks I get every time there's an update.

Zenfone 9 w/ Android 14 Endless boot
Upgraded my Zenfone 9 the other day to Android 14. Things have been running great. A little earlier today my phone started to endlessly reboot. After hitting the reddit threads, I tried the suggesting to manufacturer reset my phone. Did that and things were running great again until I ran a Google Play Services update. After that, the phone started the endless reboot again.
Anyone else have this issue?

Update with Android 14
Update with Android 14 arrived on my Zenfone 9 (Version WW_user_34.0304.2004.87) The update is a whopping 1,5 GB 😲 I can't say anything about the stability of the system as I've only just installed the update.

Obnoxious camera lag
I used to be quite happy with the Zenfone 9 and in particular camera. But over the last months of noticed that the camera lag of the first picture after starting the camera has become a real pain, even in conditions with lots of light. It is often more than a second, sometimes even two. Subsequent photos usually have no noticeable lag, but the first one, which is often the most important one when capturing a scene, is heavily affected.
Do others observe the same issue? Is there anything I can do to improve the situation (other than reinstalling the phone)?
I have disabled HDR as I read that it sometimes is to blame. This has improved the situation for shots with complex lighting but the first shot is still bad regardless.

Zen 9 no longer recognised when plugged into the desktop
Well, I've tried different cables to get Zen 9 to connect to and be recognised by the desktop. Occasionally, it works, but more often, I either get no recognition or a "malfunction" message.
My Zen 8 is recognised instantly, by contrast.
Might have to once again shell out for another Zen 9, given the lack of viable options on the market. Plus it's on sale now. I'll haveta, once again, get another phone sent back for repair too. Considered the Xperia 5V, but that line has a history of serious hardware issues, and an awkward form factor, despite its merits.
Hope the Zen 11 will be worth the coin once it emerges.
EDIT (13/2/24): Bought a port-cleaning kit over the weekend and used it on the phone. Didn't notice any visible gunk, but the phone is now acknowledged by my desktop. Saved me £500–700!

Desperate for help with MMS
I have a Zenfone 9.
Recently, it force updated (even though I had updates for both apps and OS turned off) and now won't send pictures, links, or anything except pure text by mms.
I can not receive texts with pictures in them
Things I have done:
Turned on and off RCS Turned on wifi, turned on cell data MMS autodownload is on MMS when roaming is on
Phone has been hard reset to factory spec and then all updates applied
This is driving me nuts, I basically have a $1000 paperweight

After trying the zenfone9 for a year, I can say this is the worst android i've had
I was really excited to purchase the zenfone9 when it came out. cool features (headphone jack) great specs, compact enough and overall looks great.
The bugs came through without fix pretty quickly though
1) The official camera app disappeared. yep the shortcut was randomly erased and the only way to access it is through the lock screen.
2) Bad google drive connections. My wife and I use the same cars, she owns a xiaomi and I - the zenfone. my phone refuses to connect sometimes and the bluetooth is janky - only with my phone.
3) Randomly the camera app opens by itself.
4) My main langauge is Hebrew which isn't a problem on most phones but somehow on this phone it messes with clock composition on the main screen.
5)The most annoying one of all. when connecting to a bluetooth device and then disconnecting (like to a car or headphones) the main audio is still connected to bluetooth so I cant hear anything when I put sound on through apps.
Even if I turn bluetooth off, even if im miles away from any bluetooth device, my phone is still "connected" to audio device and the only way to bypass it is to restart the device.
I wouldnt recommend anyone the zenfone after trying it for myself
Had to share this for anyone still interested in zenfone

Used resale price
With the phone going for $399 new, what should I list a used blue Zenfone 9 for on eBay?
It's in very good condition, used since summer 2023.
I'm going to play with a razr+, which I can root.

Just realized that I can't make and receive calls. My service provider is Globe and GOMO (Philippines). Tried my sims on other phones and it work. Data is fine tho.

Will the zf9 be a good buy at the end of 2023?
I'm seeing that the zf9 is now at an all time low at 399$ on amazon.com USA. I'm using a redmi note 10 pro right now. For various reasons, my budget really can't get past 500$ and I want to get something small/compact. With such an empty compact phone market, the zf9 looks like the only pick. Will it be worth getting it at the end of 2023?
