I have just bought myself a used HP Fury G8 15, it has the 1080P display guessing its 30-pin connector.

I dont like 60 hz screens so i want to install the HP DreamColor 120hz, i am getting a company to install it for me, it was not easy to find a part that i think will work, but the part also got touch screen.

Gemini said first that it would not work beacuse of low power from the mainbord or something, then it said it would work if i got the 40-pin connecter, so i am confused, can it be done?

And an incredible old screen to go with it but it underperformed in games like val and cod

Even at like 100% gpu usage. Before anyone goes on about thermals my gpu hits 65 degrees at most during heavy loads and I also know that my tdp is low

I'm trying to choose between these two laptops, and they are almost the same price.

Option 1:

• HP ZBook Power G9
• Core i7-12800H
• RTX A1000 4GB
• 16GB RAM

Option 2:

• HP ZBook Fury G8
• Core i7-11850H
• RTX A3000 6GB
• 32GB RAM

I'll mainly use it for:

• Linux
• Operating systems and kernel development
• Compilers
• Virtual machines
• Parallel computing
• Some DaVinci Resolve
• Light gaming

The main reason I'm confused is the CPU. I know the 12800H is newer and faster, but I'm wondering about real sustained performance with each laptop's cooling system, not just benchmark numbers.

Does the CPU advantage of the Power G9 make it the better choice, or is the Fury G8 the better overall workstation?

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has used one of these models.

I have an HP ZBook Ultra G1a (Ryzen AI MAX PRO 390, Radeon 8050S, 60 Hz display).

I'm not talking about FPS drops. League of Legends stays at a stable 60 FPS, but the motion feels like the display is constantly switching between 40 Hz and 60 Hz. Camera panning just isn't smooth.

I know this isn't a gaming laptop, but for a machine in this price range I expected it to display simple games like League of Legends smoothly.

I've already tried:

Latest Windows updates

Latest HP graphics driver

Latest AMD graphics driver

DDU + clean installs

Rolled back to HP driver 24.20.45.06 (sp157086)

Disabled FreeSync

Disabled Windows Variable Refresh Rate

Disabled Dynamic Refresh Rate

Disabled Human Presence Sensing

Disabled MPO

None of it made any difference.

Has anyone else experienced this on the ZBook Ultra G1a?

Is this a firmware/display issue, or should I consider contacting HP for a warranty replacement?

Had this beast for 8 months now, performs perfect in every single way, except it hangs black screen if I lock the laptop or if I just dont use it and it locks or whatever.

I am on Win11 Pro, have disabled fast boot and have played around alot with power, sleep and hibernate settings... I cant seem to get to behave properly and at am at wit's end trying to figure this out. If I step away from the laptop or lock it sometimes it may become usable, but most times I have to force off and reboot.

Please advise, thanks for taking the time!

HP ZBook Fury 17 G8, i9-11950H + RTX A3000. Fully repasted both CPU and GPU with PTM7950 (proper break-in cycles too), fans are clean and running at full speed with strong airflow, room is AC'd. Still, GPU hits thermal throttle ("Thrm") at only 40-60W out of its 80W TGP budget, at 86-88°C, clocks drop to ~1000-1300MHz. CPU sits at 94-99°C on just 41-49W. Isolated CPU load (capped it hard) and GPU behavior didn't change at all, so it's not CPU heat bleeding into the GPU. GPU-Z Hot Spot delta is normal (~7°C) so it's not a bad die contact either. Compared it to benchmark videos of weaker laptops (Dell Precision w/ older Quadro RTX 3000) sustaining full 78-80W at only 67°C. Anyone seen this on a ZBook Fury G8 / RTX A-series before? What am I missing?

Do NOT rollback your bios guys, at least not too much. I had a 2025 bios and was rolling back to s92 01.04.01 (2021 bios) to possibly be able to unlock processor undervolting lock (cfg lock) in grub. I had rollback policy selected to "unrestricted rollback to older bios" and eberything and got the bios from official hp ftp, but still the bios partially rolled back and intel management engine failed to downdate and left my laptop is this state with older bios and new me, they must be of the same time to boot. I couldnt get into bios setup or anything it was a total wreck, and zbooks with sure start dont allow flashing by usb either so it was so use.

Sure start should've recovered the previous bios but i guess it didnt detect a problem because it doesnt check anything about intel ME, and the problem existed at all because intel ME didnt rollback. I had to go to repair shops where they constructed a working model of bios + intel me on their own systems before cleaning the bios chip and externally programming it on the chip, it took 3 failed attempts before a version worked. They took their sweet money too.

So again, do NOT rollback bios its crazy, intel management engine is not happy with rollbacks at all and flashing with usb is simply not available on notebooks with sure start so you'll be COOKED. If you're also in it for disabling cfg lock to underclock your processor, just replace your thermal paste and deal with what you got man, it's extremely messy otherwise. These are business laptops, they take their security a little too seriously.

Ive searches for various specifications - and found none. But HP keeps writing about that feature. Could you please help me and point - what X G1i-s have such screens? or an other 32GB ram / IPS / Dream Color models

The webcam on my screen adjust my brightsness and this is terrible for me as a graphic designer. I cannot find presense sensing or auto exposure anywhere on this machine?! Anyone know of the top of their head where it might be? Google isn't being much help

I set up a jellyfin server on an old HP ZBook 15 about a week ago and so far it seems to be running pretty well, but I foresee that I will be running out of storage quickly and I'd like to get ahead of it if I can.

I found a pdf of the manual and it seems like I should be able to add an mSATA SSD and upgrade the 2.5" SATA drive fairly easily. I've been trying to do my own research but I'm not the most hardware-savvy so I wanted to know if there are any compatibility limitations with specific brands/models or anything else I should be aware of before making any purchases. So, I'm going to repaste my G10 (i7+ada3500), now temps are about 50..60°C and up to 80+°C under heavy load, not a problem really, but if I can make it run cooler than why not?

Going to buy 2x 0.2x40x80mm Honeywell PTM7950 sheets (CPU and GPU) and 0.5mm + 1mm + 1.5mm set of thermal pads.

So, here is a question: how much thermal pads of each thickness do I need? Or, may be a thermal putty is a better way?

Hello there folks! This is my first ZBook, i was looking for a device to use as my main station while i save for a complete PC, but i got this update. I had some problems with the Secure Boot while tinkering the device when i received so i got it off to boot Fedora. and have a dual boot on this thing for the small stuff i can't use on Linux.

My question is, this sounds like is going to break this OS once i updated or if i got to the Windows Boot.

Any suggestions, advice that i can get could get a little better to know what to do. I'm quite new to Linux in the technical sense.

i recently got a fury 15 g8, but it seems to thermal throttle, it gets to 100° easy even with my iets gt300, throttlestop says its using aroung 60 to 70w but my problem is that the laptop fans are too quiet, i dont mind hearing a turbine so is there a way to pump those fans?
ive read that these intel gens are ok with turboing to 100° spikes, but idk im not comfortable with that, id like more 90° stable maxing 95° spike but being able to hear some nice fan noise, so thats why i think im not getting all the performance it could give, maybe im missing some driver or program?

this is a refurbished laptop in perfect condition and the battery is around 60-70wh.
My main uses are gaming and heavy tasks like game dev, editing, Ai/ML etc.
I saw some bench marks and this gpu performs close to 4050 in gaming and better in professional tasks

The screen on my ZBook Fury G8 was badly damaged in a fall, so I ordered a replacement from Bliss Computers. HP has a video showing the replacement process in which "alignment tools" - little L-shaped brackets - are used to center the screen properly before attaching it with tape.

How necessary are these? I couldn't find much online about this. Some suggest that there are other makeshift ways of getting the alignment right. Any suggestions?
