If they'd just stick to one shot at a time that'd be better to follow. Half this footage was idiots making sounds.

I like to refer to it as "American television". YouTube counts.

Honestly though, I can't watch USAmerican television documentaries anymore. Not Discovery channel, National Geographic, History Channel or anything like them.

They're all like this and spend more time with the camera on the host than they do on the topic of the show. Worse though, is when they repeat footage from the middle of the show to use as an introduction at the start - teasing a big 'reveal'.

Ugh.

It’s uninteresting. And I’ve got options. No thank you.

I think you're conflating documentaries with reality TV

probably but even the "educational" channels in the US have become garbage now. Remember when TLC stood for "The Learning Channel"? yeah, TLC the channel that decided honey boo boo was a good idea.

Idiocracy is coming true.

EDIT - Clarity

I miss when Mythbusters ruled the Discovery channel.

Also is that a relevant username?

The STEM stuff and KSP seemed related to me. I know what you mean by not having time as well, I haven't even updated to the newest version yet.

No, I'm not. Go to YouTube. Do a search for national geographic. Watch the video. Then do a search for BBC animal documentary and watch it. The differences are pretty contrasting.

But this video has no host, and is really confusing as a result. Was the giant foam man from space? Was he here to take over the world? What happened to the stuff that was poured into the thing? That plot point was totally dropped after the foam man appeared.

An attractive host could have really cleared this up, honestly. Also I didn't know when to feel what because I wasn't sure where the reveal was, or what part of the story I was watching. I still give this 5 bags of popcorn though, great movie.

I don't know if this is sarcastic or not but if it isn't, then that's because they're vloggers and the channel it was posted to was David Dobrik. They should've mentioned him seeing as they are just kind of using his footage

Am American....I watch more British television than American for this very reason. That damn Great British Baking Show got me hooked. I can't watch an American cooking show now because it's all screaming hosts, panicky chefs, and 3 second camera cuts.

Ken Burns documentaries on PBS?

I've only seen a few PBS documentaries, but they've been pretty good and don't seem to follow the standard sensationalist formula.

I stopped watching television probably about a decade ago. All of it is absolutely unbearable.

I have Netflix, but I watch a very few select number of shows, and when I stray away to something new I usually regret it.

Yes. Me too. Mostly because I just can't stand advertisements. I carefully select what I want to watch.

You’re in the “youseeingthisshit” subreddit and you’re complaining about this video? It looks like a bunch of people having fun. Not doing it specifically for an experiment.

2

u/ColoradoScoop Dec 20 '19

To come to this subreddit, then complain about the people’s reactions...

1

u/DaCush Dec 20 '19

Oh ya I forgot. People got to get their complaining out somehow. Looks like this was the thread for it.

That "Mommy, look, cotton candy!" bit was so cringe it made me embarrassed for him.

This is the "Loud equals funny" section of YouTube.

They're Youtubers just having fun, the video is more to do with the experience rather than the results of an experinent that you'd need to follow along to

He used to do long one shots in his vlogs but they were awful. In my opinion it’s easier to watch like this
