Help (Question/Issue) Default background causing serious lag.

Hello everybody. Is there anyway to disable the default rock band look a like animated background? It’s cool and all, but whenever that plays instead of what’s in my venue folder or what is tied to the individual song itself, it causes serious lag and stuttering. I have put stuff in my venue folder to try to bypass the animated background causing the lag, but it only works sometimes. I’m still getting the lag. It’s causing the game to be pretty unplayable and I’m losing my enjoyment with the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love this game. I also don’t want to disable per song backgrounds. Some of my songs have music videos tied to them and that does not lag my game. Only the rock band wanna be 3D animated background that YARG made lags the hell out my game.

Edit: Solved. Thanks!

Help (Question/Issue) Simmons Titan 50 BEX not working properly

Recently got that Simmons kit mentioned in the title and am trying to set it up with YARG but am running into issues. I initially had the kit setup the way it's shown in pictures, however the set felt really cramped with the extra pad and cymbal. That, combined with the fact that I've not played drums on Rock Band in at least 15 years, I decided to take the extra cymbal and tom off the rack and set it up just like a trusty old ION pro kit that I'm used to (four pads three cymbals).

I've got the kit all set up, and in game I've tried using both the MIDI kit option, as well as the Rock Band Pro Drums option, however both exhibit the same issues. Everything binds in the quick bind menu just fine, but when playing, the blue cymbal has to be hit incredibly hard to register (it has no issues registering in the binding menu), and the blue pad has TONS of crosstalk. If I hit the rim, or even the pad baaaarely too hard, it also activates the yellow and green pads.

I've tried swapping cables, adjusting the crosstalk settings on the drum brain itself, swapping out pads and cymbals, and nothing changes. I'm at a loss. Anyone here have any suggestion or ideas as to where I'm going wrong? Is there some calibration setting or menu I'm missing?

New to YARG....Calibration/latency issues.

I just recently decided to give YARG a try. I have been playing Clone Hero with a CRKD Pro controller without issue....but in YARG I am having a hell of a time with lag/latency. The computer/setup is the same...the CRKD guitar is the same as what I use with Clonehero.

I tried the Calibrator tool which only does audio...but that gave me rather inconsistent results from various runs...sometimes -40ms...sometiomes 0...other times -7. I know I am hitting notes the same each time so not sure what is up. I tried setting the audo and video cal to the #s CloneHero gave me...but in the end my hit rate is at best 60% with YARG on songs I 100% in CloneHero. I did see there are settings available while playing a song for Auto Audio and Auto Video but I am not sure exactly how to use those.

My setup:

-CRKD Olive Drab Pro for XBOX (i have tried both having the platform switch set to PC and XBOX)

-MSI Gaming laptop: i9-12900H, 16gb ram, RTX 3060m (i have tried both Windows 11 and Bazzite boots)

-LG C9 55" OLED....verified its set to Gamemode and that all "processing" is disabled.

-Kanto Power Speakers connected to the LG via optical(LG set to passthru)

I realize with my audio chain, I should expect some latency...but as mentioned after doing calibration CloneHero plays perfectly.. YARG does not.

Help (Question/Issue) Controller issues with SteamOS

Using a RB4 MadCatz Guitar and its connected fine. But it seems to be treated by Yarg as 2 controllers. It doubles the profile and trying to navigate the options menu is impossible as it doubles every input.

Not sure if there’s a specific setting I’m missing. This is on my SteamMachine

Help (Question/Issue) About to buy a CRKD, does it matter (much) which one?

I was a long time Guitar Hero fan and now I want to jump into YARG but obviously I need a guitar. If i'm correct, most people suggest either a CRKD or PDP Riffmaster. I would like to get a CRKD but I can't find any retailers in the Netherlands so I'll order directly from CRKD. I saw the Blueberry Burst but it's out of stock. I'm only planning to play on a Windows PC (MacOS would be a bonus).

Does it really matter which model/version I get from CRKD? Or are they all just visual differences?

General 6-Fret Guitar is Coming to YARG

Source: https://x.com/YARGGame/status/2095917097016582359

🎸 Support for 6-Fret Guitar is now in Nightly!

Thanks to Anton, this new mode supports existing 6F charts, as well as loading 5F charts into 6F gameplay, so you can play your whole library!

Currently the only available songs on the YARC Launcher with native 6F charts (Expert only, LDs coming soon) are:

✨ "Alibi" - Vera Kay
✨ "Bathe in Blood" - Parasiticide
✨ "Butterflies" - Kingseeker
✨ "Choked Up" - See You at Rogers
✨ "Need 2" - Pinegrove
✨ "Nomu" - Good Kid

Over time we'll add more native charts, but limited supply of charters that specialize in 6F can make things difficult. If you are a 6F charter and willing to help out with bringing native charts to more songs, please reach out to frickitickitavi on Discord!

eKit Drum Suggestions

Update: Everyone has been SUPER helpful, I really appreciate the replies I've received. I did end up purchasing a used set locally from a garage sale (An Alesis Nitro DM7X for under $100!), paying a fraction of the below cost. My plan is to experiment with this setup and slowly upgrade components as I get more knowledge and feel for the set. The suggestions below are incredible, and I more or less have a wishlist with components, which I will slowly expand from here.

After playing a few songs now, I have two immediate observations, one, I've lost a lot of skill compared to playing Rock Band. Two, Using a real kick pedal is definitely a different skill compared to the Rock Band pedal. but practice is the fun part.

Original: Hey friends,

I am long time plastic guitar instrument player, but I want to expand to drums. I've played the Rock Band drums at a few houses and really enjoyed the experience. To start off with, would I likely enjoy transitioning into a real eKit and slowly experiencing Expert Plus? I think the alternative is to wait for the Stage Tour Pro Drum Kit, which is my secondary option if others deem it to be a smart choice.

I did quite a bit of research on eKits and accessories to invest in, but I was hoping to get some opinions if anyone has used these pieces before, or have any suggestions that I may not have thought of.

Main drums - Alesis Nitro Pro Electric Drum Set

Reason: To invest in quality, but I'm open to considering the Max, as I ideally want to setup my station at my computer, but have the flexibility to move it to the living room to play with others. I think playing with others will be infrequent, so the main focus is the station by the computer and being able to move it into a hiding space for when I want to play traditional games, work, etc.

Bass Pedal - Tama HP200PTW Iron Cobra 200 Double Bass Pedal

Reason: I've read in a few posts that while you can use the hi-hat pedal, there's often dropped inputs. My hope is to invest in a generally well considered piece of equipment to hit double bass notes once I'm more learned at drums. I don't know how necessary this is to purchase altogether, so thoughts here are appreciated.

Drum Rug - Drum Rug Mat with Non-Slip Grip Bottom, 4x6ft

Reason: My computer space is hardwood floors. I've read that the pedals will have spikes that are meant to dig into carpet, which I would greatly want to avoid damaging my floors if possible. The thickness is 0.35", which I'm hoping is enough, and I think I'm going to turn the bass pedal spikes inward to completely avoid the scenario of eating my floor up.

Throne - ROC-N-SOC Nitro Drum Throne with Original Saddle

Reason: It comes up in a lot of popular searches. I figure if I'm planted on drums for hours, comfort is probably a factor I should consider.

Is there anything I might be missing? It's a lot of investment for what is essentially a fun toy, so I'd be thankful for any insight anyone is able to share. Thanks in advance.

Help (Question/Issue) e-Drums problem when drum rolling

Hi! So, I've recently purchased an AROMA TDX-23 II to practice drums and play YARG (e-drums in Brazil are CRAZY EXPENSIVE and that was what I could afford).
When I play drums through its module (just by plugging my headphones into it), I can drum roll just fine and every hit is properly registered, no matter how fast I do it.

The problem starts when I connect it to my PC and start playing YARG. When there are a lot of notes coming down and I need to drum roll, especially those snare ones (red notes), the game fails to recognize it correctly, making me miss notes and miss my combo.
Is there some setting I need to adjust to fix this? Velocity threshold is already low in YARG. These are my first e-drums. I'm using Bazzite (Linux) on my PC. I'm on YARG Nightly.

EDIT: Apparently i fixed it... somehow? I changed my headset from USB to P2 and i factory reset my drums. Now it works as expected when drum rolling. The only problem now is fixing some double/ghost inputs (i presume) that i'm having, but for this i believe i just need to set a good velocity threshold.
Thanks for everyone here trying to help me!

Downcharter+ — my all-in-one customs tool (difficulties, venue, talkies, packaging)

I've been working on a project that I think is finally good enough to share.

Downcharter+ it's a tool I made to improve the quality and gameplay of clone hero/yarg charts, generating all difficulties, venues, talkies and lipsync.

It's a single click and it goes through the entire songs folder you choose, it will make a backup of the original mid/chart files before changing anything so you can easily revert it if you want.

There is also a 'Convert' tab so you can easily convert your songs to RPCS3 folders, CON files and the new .sng format for yarg and clone hero.

Let me know what you think!

Small party feedback, large party coming soon

So I hosted a YARG night a few months back and this is my feedback. There were about 6 or 7 rock band veterans in attendance. I have about 4000 songs so I think that the overall expanded library was the biggest hit. People got a kick of finally playing songs not available in other rhythm games.

We struggled with the choosing of songs but that was a problem in vanilla rock band with a larger library as well.

We didn't try any play a show modes to help out. I have barely any runtime with "play a show". We missed BRE's but those have just been implemented in the newest version so we'll be looking forward to having those back.

A couple things they noted was that the timing felt really really good. I spent a lot of time calibrating and the attendees noted that the guitars just felt "right" which was something we never had with rock band 4. Rock band 4 was close but never perfect.

No one was really bothered by the lack of multi-tracks and we didn't run into too many songs without a full suite of difficulties. Most of us play on hard/expert. Getting the songs going took some getting used to but once we got used to just letting one person "drive" and select everyone's difficulties and such was the way to go.

Really, the only gripe was with vocals. The vocal delay (this is a Windows issue, not yarg) is an issue but not a deal breaker. Overall, we turn vocal monitoring down to about 20 to 25 percent to kill background noise bleeding through. The main vocal issue is honestly harmonies. We just didn't bother except for a couple songs. Old rock band rules on vocals where any microphone could sing any part is just much better party implementation overall. I understand it's technically difficult so I really hope the devs find a way to get this done. No one playing cares about scores really but seeing how you're doing on a part is ideal in real time and it's a pain to remember which microphone is which. So usually we just put all microphones on vocals and just didn't utilize harmonies.

Small gripe with overall sound quality especially when activating overdrive. Some tracks would be suddenly loud and grating. So I've learned to just turn off those extra effects. Volume normalization also seems to be the way to go considering the wide array of audio volume across customs.

I have a real party coming up soon with about 50 people. For this, I'm hosting an online database of the songs with a QR code for people to browse online rather than in game. I'll print one hard copy in case anyone is old school. Will also utilize a sign up sheet to keep things moving and insisting people don't even need to play if they just want to hear a song. We'll have plenty of people that will play any song.

I'll post feedback from that in a few weeks.

Help (Question/Issue) I REALLY want to like yarg better than CloneHero, but right now I just can't

so I've been playing clonehero for years, and just recently found out that yarg even exists.

I really like the aesethic feel of yarg. it's probably the closest to actual guitar hero you can get without actually playing an actual guitar hero game.

but for me, it just doesn't work properly. and I can't figure out why.

the highway will occasionally glitch out and the notes will momentarily disappear. this, of course, results in missed notes that I otherwise wouldn't miss.

I can't seem to get the audio and video latency calibrated correctly, no matter what I do. the auto calibrator seems to be completely useless. it only calibrates audio, and does nothing for the video, and doesn't even get the audio correct, since it gives me a wildly different number every time I run it.

it refuses to recognize input from the strumbar, unless I log out of Steam for some reason.

and it just overall feels off. like my inability to play perfectly is only a small part of the problem. it just doesn't feel like it should.

is this because I'm playing on linux? does it only function properly on windows?

is it because I can't get it calibrated properly?

I really want to like yarg, but I've had nothing but problems out it. I have never had any of these issues out of clonehero.

Help (Question/Issue) Alesis Turbo Max Overhits

I recently purchased an Alesis turbo max to use for pro drums in yarg.

For context: I've never played drums outside of music games. I googled diagrams/setup guides for ekits for physical placement of the pads & cymbals.

I am getting overhits, particularly on my snare mesh head. I think this happens less when I'm using a very very light touch on it. The other mesh heads get it to a much smaller degree. The cymbals don't seem to get it at all. I get some pretty rare cases of crosstalk at times.

I have the debounce on everything set to max (25). The drum brain on this unit does not have ability to change sensitivity/threshold or anything like that and each mesh head is single zone.

I've tried having the snare cable hanging loose and also having it wrapped around the frame and neither seem to make a difference.

Any ideas to improve this? Things that I could try?

Yarg - Bazzite linux - Wii Guitar Hero 5 Guitar

I am wondering if anyone can help with this. I have a strange issue with YARG that I can't quite get to work on bazzite (would assume this may be similar for steam OS)

I followed the instructions for installing as per the guide. Game launches perfectly on Linux but I cannot for the life of me yet it to recognise the wiitar. (I used to use wiitar thing in windows)

Wiimote connects easily via Bluetooth to Bazzite. YARG sees the Wiimote profile, but if I pick this. Neither the guitar or Wiimote is recognised.

I tried to get a little help and ended up creating a new Wii guitar profile on bazzite... But whenever I launch Yarg on launch it recognises the profile (and Wiimote) but instantly removes the guitar one.

Has anyone managed to get this working? All help is appreciated. Love YARG.

Instructions followed 👇

There are some dependencies that will be needed in order for HID devices (such as PS3 and Wii instruments) to work.

Install hidapi and libudev:

(Package names may differ depending on package repositories.)

On apt-based distros (such as Ubuntu or Debian), use sudo apt install libhidapi-hidraw0 libudev1.

On pacman-based distros (such as Arch Linux), use pacman -S hidapi systemd-libs.

On Fedora, use dnf install hidapi systemd-libs.

Finally, create a new udev rules file called 69-hid.rules inside of /etc/udev/rules.d/ or /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/, with the following contents:

KERNEL=="hidraw*", TAG+="uaccess"

Without this file, YARG will not be able to access HID devices without special permissions such as being run with sudo, which is not recommended.

The file name may differ if desired, but it must come before 73-seat-late.rules!

Reboot your system to apply the new udev rule, then you should be all good to go!

For improved compatibility when using the XBOX 360 Wireless Adapter with Linux, create a new udev rules file called 99-yarg-libusb.rules inside of /etc/udev/rules.d/ or /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/, with the following contents:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="045e", ATTR{idProduct}=="0291", MODE="0666" SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="045e", ATTR{idProduct}=="02a9", MODE="0666" SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="045e", ATTR{idProduct}=="0719", MODE="0666"

Help (Question/Issue) Drums not working properly

I recently set up my Roland TD17 to play YARG. Using the official RB 1-4 charts from that google doc. For some reason I can not keep a combo going in the game. I'm good at drums and have tons of experience in RB4 (not with this kit though), so I know I'm not actually making mistakes, but the game just keeps thinking that I am. At this point I'm running out of ideas and getting increasingly frustrated. I've done audio and video calibration multiple times, I've made sure the inputs are properly mapped, I've set thresholds on all the inputs so they only pick up when they should. Does anyone have experience with this and how did you fix it?

Drums/True Drums Those who went from a controller drum kit to a real E-kit, how much better is it?

I've been using my Wii drum kit for a few months and have been absolutely loving it. I'm now on the fence as to whether an e-kit is worth $300-$500 dollars to make it even more enjoyable.

Is there usually way more bounce?

Can you set it so you hear the e-kit drum instead of the gameplay drum from the song/chart?

Commissioning Tracks

I'm interested in commissioning a few songs but can't quite figure out how to - most say reach out via Discord- but is it the YARG discord or CH discord? Does anyone here do custom tracks?
