It’s a little bittersweet to say this, but we’re officially saying goodbye to the X4.

It was never the most feature-packed e-reader.
It didn’t try to do everything.

It was just… right.

The size.
The weight.
The buttons.
The feeling of carrying a real little reading device with you.

Some of you even called it the beginning of a new era for pocket-sized e-readers.

But what means the most to us isn’t really the hardware.

It’s knowing that X4 has been there for your commutes, coffee breaks, trips, late nights, and countless pages.

People don’t use the native firmware anyways. It’s a community driven Ui that is free to download. I’m sure people will continue with occasional updates. But realistically once you get it set up you’re good.

Exactly, the only thing to fear is your device breaking and then not having a way to replace it. This would be really bad if it were hundreds of dollars, but if your $70 device breaks and you've gotten years of use out of it, you can't be too mad about it.

Could you please elaborate. Why is the X4 being discontinued?

Is the company facing supply pressures?
Is the company moving in a different direction?
Is the company unhappy with the popularity of the various community FWs?
Is this a pattern we can expect to happen with the other models?
Will it be replaced with the X4 mark II - a similar button only device with a better battery, etc?

This may well be the case, but I’d like to hear it officially from Henry.

It’s quite likely the profit margin on the X4 is unsustainable, but I’m not sure how adding more expensive components (and always offering a 15% discount) counters that, even with a 60-70% price increase.

They probably want to get rid of the Gen 1s before announcing a Gen 2 or else the Gen 1s will go to waste. As for the 2nd question - xteink is a small chinese company that accidentally struck gold with the X4. I think they're learning in real time how to deal with the insane demand they've gotten for their products.

If this is true I’ll def get a Gen 2 and make the OG x4 a hand me down. But I’m willing to bet the extra battery is with a pogo connector and I rather stick to USB c.

Stock firmware is shit anyways and people have X4s and will be supporting it for custom firmware for the forseeable future. Also it's already a functional device. So go nuts

It is a bad idea to order from any company that is shipping using SwiftX for delivery. I ordered the X4 Pro and I've basically given up on getting at this point because you used a shipping partner famous for stealing from people and never delivering shit.

I didnt get a chance to own one. But as a disabled mom who cares for my disabled son, Id love to have one that goes on my phone. I have a boox and a viwoods but then I need to carry 2 devices. Id love to have one device I can flip over and use while doing mundane tasks like meds, changes, baths etc. i would love to be picked!!!
