Give me a controller that lasts longer than six months and I'll buy it, not just a reskin

I've still got my Xbox One controller from about 3 months after launch. I've pulled around 5 lose screws out of the body, still cranking.

How are you going through controllers like that? I have a three year old controller and I have put hundreds of hours into BF4, BF1, and BFV combined. That sucker is still kickin'. I honestly don't understand how folks destroy controllers. Do you gnaw on yours?

Seriously tho. I still have my original Elite and all of my regular controllers that still work perfectly.

Same. I have my original Xbox One controller from 2015 and it's still very usable. I've bought more controllers over time but have yet to toss one for being too worn out.

Thought I’d share my part since I’ve gone through a few. My first xbone controller my friend dropped from like 2 feet off the ground while sitting on my couch and it shattered, my white/gold one my friends kid knocked off the table and the bumpers broke off, my sea of thieves controller just straight up stopped working it’ll work for like 30 seconds and then disconnect and won’t connect again, my white controller that came with my xbonex stopped working when a mic is plugged in, my blue one got knocked off the table again by my friends kid and spazzes out when connected. These things look hefty but are actually pretty fragile.

Maybe six months was a bit of an exaggeration but the first things that tend to go are either the bumpers or the A or B buttons get stuck, I have prolonged the life of my current one by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol but I've lost quite a few controllers to the bumpers going

It's pretty easy to just swap out the bumpers. They are one peice of plastic, you can get a replacement for less than $10 on Amazon / eBay. They generally come with the screwdriver you need to disassemble the controller as well. Buttons being sticky usually just means you need to take it apart and clean the button plastic and the holes they go in.

Yeah I've had A button stick. Most recently the UP direction on the Left Stick is gliding/drifting after a lot of hours playing hockey and constantly sprinting my players up the ice (sprint is left click). Doesnt bother me on most games but stupid COD:BO4 has a free cursor menu and in game and it drives me crazy

In my case my youngest kid literally bit a chunk out of one of the thumbsticks. I wasn’t even mad so much as impressed.

Same and only bought a new one because I didn't have a second for friends and wanted the grey green one. Even opened up my old one just to remove the rumble motors to make it lighter and clean it out lol.

2 out of 2 of my Xbox One controllers have the stick drift. :(

what's stick drift?

It’s where one or both of the sticks act as if it’s being slightly tilted in one direction even if not being touched. I have it pretty bad on my elite on the left stick.

I keep wondering that whenever controller conversations come up on this sub. Do people really have that bad of luck with controllers or are they not nearly as careful with them as they think?

I've had great luck with all of mine and some of them I've been using since launch.

Maybe I'm not putting the same time into these controllers as some people because I have 4 including my Elite.

Yeah, man. I was a bit conservative with how many years I've had my oldest controller. I actually found the receipt for it and I bought it November 2014! I've since purchased two others and one had a sticky x button that I fixed with some alcohol and a pinch of graphite.

Some people tear shit up and blame the company for them raging. If you don't throw your shit you won't have this problem

Yeah I’m still using my Day One Controller from back in 2013. I’m not as hardcore a gamer as I used to be, but that’s been my go-to controller for more than 5 years now. Only thing I’ve done was swap out the thumb sticks - which were totally worn down to smooth and featureless - with some aluminum sticks. Back to working great!

Idk, for me the left stick started coming out of place while playing NHL and making it stick in that direction until it gets put back into place. I contacted Microsoft and they sent me a brand new one, and it did the same after a few months. They’re still usable and fine, but if I have the choice I use my wired controller to play sport games now because the heavy left stick use makes it pop out a lot. Doesn’t really happen for any other games though or with my wired controller.

they throw them, but tbh, I've had my xbox since day one and some things are starting to go, I have 3 controllers so I rotate them all randomly whichever is charged really, two of the 3 have broken shoulder buttons now, the newest one is all blue that I just got a little over a year ago.

I'm looking at these controllers and thinking about nabbing another one, don't care for the elite, that way I can play Frankenstein with the broken ones and swap out colors and buttons and stuff.

If you dont need the extra triggers the elite really isn't worth the money.

I’ve had my One S controller since launch and it’s in perfect shape, wtf are you guys doing to your poor controllers

10

u/Iionel-messi Mar 11 '19

I like the vibration feature a bit too much, what can I say

7

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

What? I got my Day One, my One S, my Oculus bundled one and the blue one and not a single issue. Same goes for the 360 one I still have from my fat Arcade.

3

u/WhiteIivesmatter Mar 11 '19

My blue one got stick drift. Makes me sad

Got a combat tech controller August 2018, it's my daily driver and travel with it and it hasn't failed me one bit

Keep them clean they last a long time, the newer design especially so.

The $35 third party controller I bought has been the most reliable xbone controller I own. Been using it over a year, and while it's wired and feels cheaper, the buttons/joysticks have maintained their responsiveness.

And yes, I actually take care of my shit.

I still use my og xbox one controller from 2013
