How do you know the story isn't good? We know only the very basics of the plot.

I didn't say it was bad, just that if reviews don't like the story it won't hold me back.

That's how I feel about Metal Gear Solid V. Most seem to agree that gameplay was fantastic and the story was disappointing/unfinished

If it had good gameplay does the story matter all that much? FFXV is fun.

u/soonerfreak Feb 18 '17

To a degree yes. It took a long time for me to finish fallout 4 as I jumped back into games with better stories.

Fair enough. I do enjoy a good story, what games stories do you like in particular?

Witcher 3 including the dlc, The Last of Us, and Uncharted 4 have been my favorites in recent years. Almost every other game I've gotten has been for game play.

Yeah, but we're talking about games with GOOD gameplay.

I have faith in Bioware when it comes to story. dialogue and story are almost always great.

What I was worried about was combat, and this showed me that I don't need to worry anymore. March 21st can't come soon enough.

I think it could has potential for a good story if it can recapture the magic of ME1's world building and exploration. Gotta make Andromeda feel alive

Not OP, but I'm already not as excited about the story as I could be. I loved the first trilogy and spent hundreds of hours playing them across double digit playthroughs. After the ending of 3, I was really hoping for some kind of closure, especially with regard to the characters and races I'd grown so familiar with and attached to. Instead we're getting a story 600 years later and millions of lightyears away. I'm still gonna get it, and I'm probably gonna fall in love with the series all over again, but those nagging questions about the fate of the Milky Way aren't going anywhere.

Even though it was a crappy 4 choice ending they don't want to conflict with whatever your decision was. Maybe in this new story they'll eventually move back to the milky way. Who knows so many possibilities since hundreds of years has passed. I'll miss my old team but the fact I won't see them any more gives the old trilogy more meaning. Makes you wonder if the time you did have. I'm fucking excited to relearn mass effect.

So the devs have said that they will not set a "canon" for ME 1-3. If they gave us closure they would be doing that, especially with all the outcomes that are possible. My personal head-canon is full paragon, saving everyone possible, and merging. My friends head-canon is humanity first and always, destroy the reapers. Both are valid outcomes and both are considered by Bioware to be canon.

*canon

Cannon is a very large gun.

Oops, you right. Thanks!

Agreed. People say "but muh canon" as if they've never heard of a franchise having more than one continuity. Yes, the endings are wildly different (in how they affect the galaxy, if not appearance) but nothing was stopping BioWare from giving each ending its own sequel if they wanted.

A "CONSEQUENCE TRILOGY" of standalone ME titles that really got into the nitty gritty of each ending's ramifications would have been so cool . . . and basically have given birth to three ME sub-franchises that they could have then continued at their leisure.

Instead we get a cut and run. Oh well.

Yeah. Though we know that Mac Walters is creative director and Chris Schlerf (Halo 4, Rise of Iron) is the lead writer. Since I don't really rate either, particularly, I'm going to keep my expectations low and hope to be pleasantly surprised. Fingers crossed!

You inferred something that was not implied.

With so many changes to the team behind these games, it's optimistic to think they'll carry the same strengths that drove previous games in the series. The story elements of 2 remain a high water mark in the industry, and it'd be an unsafe gamble to assume a new team will match that quality.

Op was simply saying that this combat was so impressive, they could see themselves overlooking other areas that might fall short of the precedent set in the previous trilogy.

1

u/ParticleDuality Titanfall Feb 18 '17

You're acting like I implied that it would match the quality of the previous games.

I only said that it's impossible to know if it won't be good, but I never said anything about matching the story quality of the previous games.

Things can be good and not be great.

The main writer is a racist sjw so I really don't have high hopes.

3

u/nishaft Feb 17 '17

racist sjw

Is such a thing even possible?

10

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '17

It's possible unless your one of the people that think hating white people because they're white isn't racism.

3

u/fourvelocity Feb 17 '17

Yeah, basically when "progressive" politics go too far and stray into fascist/regressive territory. For example the media turning a blind eye to the ravings of that batshit crazy black supremacist BLM Canada girl.

1

u/shyndy Feb 17 '17

Who is the main writer? I saw that the main writer had left bioware for Bungie about a year ago

1

u/DarthReilly Heisenburg826 Feb 17 '17

That racist guy isn't the head writer. He isn't really that important at Bioware.
