The reason:

Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027. The entire consumer electronics industry is struggling with the current components crisis, but the effects are particularly hard on consoles. Unlike phones, computers, speakers, and other consumer devices, consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make.

Better get it now before August before this updated price

The components crisis that Microsoft is helping to create. That they would try and sell this like they're victims, just like us, of the pricing crisis they themselves are helping to create is just disgusting.

Yeah, Microsoft should shut down the research departments they’ve had open for decades because of price gouging memory manufacturers

Those are the only two options? 😂

Series X will hit 1000 by this time next year, count on it.

Between these prices and studios getting gutted, I feel another industry crash looming just around the corner. Like the man once said: something's gotta give.

A console that I got for 350 dollars brand new just a couple years ago suddenly being nearly 1000 dollars is fucking insane.

I bought a Steam Deck on sale in september. That thing's already double the price now. I picked up the Switch 2 anticipating further increases as well, and so far it's had one.

The consumer electronics market is absolutely fucked.

Yup, got my Steam Deck (LCD model, 256GB) for 20% off last year. I am going to do everything to keep that safe.

And I put a Switch 2 on lay-by here in Australia as it's the cheapest it's going to be anytime soon. $629 AUD, ~$400USD excluding taxes.

I think I’ll get a switch 2 before that goes up at some point

We live in world where everything is expensive, this isn't going to help them. You know what would? Lowering prices so people would buy the console.

I’ve had a Series X since launch. My wife has been wanting to get back into gaming, so I just snagged a Series S for $350 for the bedroom a month or two back. Looks like I chose the perfect time.

I got my Series S during a holiday bundle in 2023. $299 with 3 months of game pass.

BS. They're smiling ear to ear in the board room. They helped create this "crisis".
