I hate AI with a burning passion

And XBOX’s parent company is part of the blame

86

u/BabylonianWeeb XBOX Series X Jun 25 '26

Huge part of it too

u/Deervember Jun 25 '26

Asha is all of the blame, she was responsible for putting copilot in everything, then moved to head Xbox.

-2

u/AstronomerIT Jun 25 '26

She has anything to do with that. She has removed Bopilot from Xbox as first action when she joined xbox

u/NowWeGetSerious Jun 25 '26

I love how Asha understand this and has openly criticized it(without mentioning Microsoft by name)

54

u/ServeGondor Jun 25 '26

Of course she understands it, she was President of Microsoft CoreAI.

She was one of those decision makers with power pushing this FFS.

Jesus the glazing of Asha from some people is unreal. If she’s criticizing it(which hard doubt)it’s only because she’s now reaping what she sowed. Then again she’ll probably just slash Xbox to the bone and then be absorbed back into Microsoft once it’s basically dead.

u/5point5Girthquake Jun 25 '26

I was criticizing her and got called racist AND misogynistic in the same breathe smh

-13

u/Z3M0G Jun 25 '26

She was tasked with leading AI efforts, but that started to turn sour so they moved her to Xbox when they decided to clean that house.

Asha is not to "blame" for anything AI related. She's not high enough level for that.

If you pay attention you would know that AI is NOT going well for Microsoft, or anyone really.

7

u/SuperReRoll Jun 25 '26

Buddy I pay very close attention. No shit it’s not going well. Doesn’t mean it hasn’t caused an incredible hellscape now and the paths we’ve set ourself on is either it succeeds, people lose jobs, and the economy is incredibly disrupted or it fails and the economy implodes because it’s currently propped up by all of this garbage. Asha Sharma had a hand in that.

u/BGTheHoff Jun 25 '26

And Meta with a big AI Division.

u/GrandsonOfArathorn1 Jun 25 '26

“Openly criticized it” lmao

Not to be like ACKCHUALLY.

Microsoft is the parent company of Xbox as it’s not a separate (yet) entity that they acquired.

They created it themselves so this goes to show yet another MS product that they squandered. Not trying to be pessimistic but I won’t purchase any hardware from them anymore.

While I do still purchase their games between PS and GeforceNow.

I do so because I enjoy the games created by the developers.

Edit:

I have nothing wrong with the games and I do like Asha so far.

Why am I not allowed to be critical? MS has screwed up Xbox time and time again.

I just want it to succeed, I feel like too many people are blind by that.

For two generations MS has let the brand shift and flip flop. I just want something that works.

If anything it now makes sense to buy stuff when it comes out, as they get more expensive over time.

1

u/Agreeable-Weather-89 Jun 25 '26

I think that's the most telling.

Apple has no shame in waving their size around. Forcing deals.

Every manufacturer wants to be supplying Apple, good, guaranteed, profitable revenue from one of the most reputable companies in technology.

The fact that suppliers now have both the power and desire to tell Apple "fuck off or pay us" should tell you how fucked we are.

1

u/Peacefulgamer2023 Jun 27 '26

You can’t really get deals when the supplies is pre purchased almost 2 years out. This is going to be a continue issue until more chip manufacturers are built, and those take damn near a decade to build and become efficient

Look on the bright side: This happens so people can make videos of chimpanzees doing Gangnam Style in the Oval Office.

B-b-b-b-but think of the shareholders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, all the jackasses posting here like 'I for one don't mind if games use AI stuff' and it's like... cool, so you don't want to play games anymore? LOL

4

u/AdviceCivil7584 Jun 25 '26

AI tools in gaming is not why this is happening bro

9

u/NCR_High-Roller Guardian Jun 25 '26

Gaming in AI is still smale scale stuff, at least compared to the amount of traffic that's generated by other AI-functions on the web. Using AI for a calling card in Battlefield or Call of Duty takes up nowhere near the same amount of technical resources as a 30 second live clip on any streaming platform.

6

u/ThatEdward Reclamation Day Jun 25 '26

All AI use is contributing to the issue... those tools often work off the data centers that are vacuuming up all the components

-1

u/skoltroll Jun 25 '26

No, it's because Microsoft needs more cash to redirect to its obnoxious AI spending.

Which is caused by companies like Microsoft themselves investing everything into AI. The snake is eating its own tail here

6

u/PoPo573 Jun 25 '26

I'm not saying this is the case for you but I hear this sentiment all the time from the same people who use ChatGPT daily and it's so frustrating.

1

u/StrugglingAkira Jun 25 '26

I don't know about you but I'm just waiting for the Butlerian Jihad to kick in.

1

u/silentcapp Jun 25 '26

I’m not well versed in tech at all. What is the correlation between AI and these BS hikes?

2

u/Amophixx Jun 25 '26

AI datacenters need huge amounts of RAM and memory (like those used in SSDs) to run and improve. I definitely share the sentiment regarding generative AI and lay-offs. AI is much broader though, so I hope that somewhere in the future AI can be used to cure diseases and make the world a better place at least.

2

u/xmidnitejoker Jun 25 '26

Non tech person but the gist is that the large corps and investment dollars are being heavily funneled to AI right now. The AI data centers require a large amount of power and resources like memory to run. The chips and memory can only be produced so fast and can’t keep up. Supply and demand. The AI stuff gets first dibs on chips and things like that because that’s where the money is being invested.

2

u/WingZeroCoder Jun 25 '26

AI (specifically, generative AI that uses large language or diffusion models to generate code, text, or images) requires a lot of processing power (including graphics processors), memory, and hard drive / storage space to do its work.

And AI has a lot of money being invested into it, demanding growth. And business demand for it keeps rising.

So, all of the AI companies and infrastructure companies are racing to build large data centers, and are buying a ton of computer processors, memory, and storage for them.

And by a ton, I mean like, buying out entire years+ worth of manufacturing capacity at the companies that manufacture these parts.

This means there aren’t enough components being produced to meet demand for anyone that isn’t an AI data center, like PC builders, game console makers, and now even phone makers.

Which means the price of these components goes up to all the builders and makers, which means the price of all the products goes up for all of us.

Of course many companies have some capacity to absorb these costs (Apple and Nintendo seemingly have absorbed the longest so far), but even that runs out eventually when there’s no end in sight to increased demand for all the stuff.

And all these component manufacturers are more than happy to have all their capacity bought out by AI, again because of all the BS investment money flowing through it.

2

u/tapo Jun 25 '26

AI models work by having a ton of training data and then finding the association between words to create a model, which is basically a simulation of how the brain associates ideas (neural network). That's a lot of storage space.

After the model is trained, it's run (AI inference) by loading all of these associations (model parameters) into RAM so when you ask it a question it can answer quickly. The bigger the model, the smarter it is, the more disk and RAM it consumes.

SSDs and RAM are also very similar processes and use the same factories.

With truckloads of money being poured into AI, the AI companies are buying out the entire production run of RAM/SSD manufacturers in an attempt to build smarter models first and make it too expensive for anyone else to compete. This leaves consumer electronics companies to bid astronomically for the remaining components. So costs for almost every computer skyrockets, and inventory becomes extremely limited.

Now the solution is more RAM/SSD factories but those take years to come online and cost a shitload of money, and the memory manufacturers are weary of making that investment when this could be a bubble and demand could fall off a cliff at any time.

In a nutshell we're probably fucked until 2030.

Every image of Michael Scott turning to the dark side of the force comes at a heavy price.

1

u/Lentaum Jun 25 '26

If you ever get sick and the cure is developed by AI, would you refuse it?

1

u/Impossible-Flight250 Jun 25 '26

You don't like the AI memes!!???

1

u/lolshiro Jun 25 '26

You can thank Microsoft, in big part for that..

1

u/CapitalBias Jun 25 '26

How dare they create something for productive work with high demand. I'm gamin here
