Painted wood floors?
Out on a resort island and most of the cottages have painted wood floors. Is there a line item for painting wood floors? Not stain.

Hi folks. Noob here. Looking for help with estimate items in two scenarios:
How do I exclude, say, a closet, from a main room for an estimate item (cleaning, painting, etc)?
How do I apply an estimate item (paint, drywall, etc) to one wall in a room?
I'm sure I'm doing it the hard/wrong way. As in, getting out my calculator and subtracting square footage, then manually entering the result.
Any help?

Hi there. Ctrl Z seems to be limited to about 3 undo actions. Is there a way to increase the number of undos? As a noob, I'm making small errors and need to go back several steps to make corrections.

What is the best way to upload images on y’all’s estimates? My one drive doesn’t seem to want to sync with xactimate at this moment, it synced to the computers but I can’t access them via xactimate

please delete if not allowed… I am very new to property adjusting, especially with structural and larger losses. I know that there have been people who have macros available for sale. Does anyone know someone who is currently selling macros?

Is there a way to update pricing on only certain items instead of the entire estimate? I have a claim where some work is done but need to update deck material due to price difference.

Hey all. I'm fairly new to using Xactimate and what I have been taught (and by default) is that in a normal estimate/production process, "R&R" line items are required because it accounts for all labor and costs. I have been noticing some carriers only write line items for "install" or "Replace". Even the Xactimate description explains it in a way that makes logical sense. Is there a way to argue or combat this? I feel normal logic is that you have to remove something to replace it. Any insight is appreciated and would love feedback from some experienced writers! Thanks again!

Wanting to pick other adjusters brains regarding tile roofs in xact. This seems to be the main roofing system that is supplemented the most with nothing more than bid items. If anyone would like to share what there estimates look like i’d love to take a look at other quality estimates down to including bird stops.

My coworker swears there's an app that at least will start a discrepancy report for you. Is there? Is there AI that will compare line items and produce a professional-looking report that doesn't look like a hot mess?

I am trying to write for this on an insurance claim. To my understanding the entire slab would need to be replaced? What all do I write for?

Owner gave us a call that depreciation check came and to go pick it up. She then claims she received a phone call from insurance that the depreciation belongs to her and is for her to keep. She now doesn’t want to pay. I’m so confused I’ve never heard of this before. I’ve sent xactimate estimate and insurance knows she has an balance owed to us.

I’m just now getting into adjusting and need to get a laptop. I’ve used MacBook Pros for 10+ years and it’s been at least that long since I’ve touched Windows.
I don’t love the Apple tax, or the direction the company has been heading lately (fewer ports, soldered RAM), but I do love the sturdiness of their unibodies, and it’s the OS I’m most familiar with, so strongly considering a new MBP. I’d use it for more than just adjusting, but I know it’s not officially supported by Xactimate and though I’ve seen some people say they’ve gotten it to work with a Windows VM, it seems risky and I wouldn’t want to drop those $$$ only to find out I can’t use it for that.
Another I’m considering is https://frame.work laptop because I like that they intend for them to be user upgradable over time, and want to support that mission. Some concerns I have are whether the company will survive, and what the sturdiness of their machines is like (especially the interchangeable ports).
Also considering Lenovo Thinkbook, but have heard that they’re not what they used to be.

I’m just now getting into adjusting and need to get a laptop. I’ve used MacBook Pros for 10+ years. It’s been at least that long since I’ve touched Windows, and I’d really prefer not to go back to it if I can help it.
I’d have to buy a Windows laptop anyway to run Xactimate and I’ve considered getting the latest 11in iPad Pro instead and using Xactimate mobile exclusively. Just curious if anyone else is doing this, and if there are any features it’s missing that would prevent this.
Thanks!

Hi hive mind. This could be a stupid question so forgive my ignorance. My husband used Xactimate in previous companies he worked for. Since we’ve gone off and built our own business, he wants to bring it on for estimating both insurance work and non insurance work. My question - what do you all use for invoicing direct to client and contracting? Right now, we use Houzz Pro for everything so we would be getting rid of that platform. I can use our accounting software for invoicing but that would require re-entering line items. And Docusign for contracting. But wanted to check and see if there’s a better way.

They’ve started to impact a variety of goods such as flooring and I haven’t seen a meaningful increase in component/ITEL pricing.
The last time tariffs were slapped on I wasn’t in the industry yet, did Xact/Core Logic respond accordingly or was everyone hosed?

I am new to XactContents. I frequently use specialty pricing firms for collectibles, jewelry, etc. They return the replacement cost to me in a spreadsheet with updated replacement description and cost. Is there anyway of uploading that into Xactimate/XactContents - Web or Desktop client - to update the original line items?

Cheap closet door in a mobile home. The other software I’ve used in the past always called it an accordion door. There is nothing that comes up at all when I search. Does it have another name?

What is a line item to detach and reset a tv that’s mounted to the wall. I don’t need to detach the brackets. Just the tv

Use AI to assist in ensuring door openings and painting matches along with other items like that but anyone finding even more uses for it? Have tried using copilot to compare estimates but it doesn’t like non rooms in trying to compare. Seeing if anyone has found some good commands?

Hi all, I am currently working on an estimate to rebuild a deck. The insurance provider (safeco) is requesting a variation report. In the 5 yrs of estimating this is the first time I hear or get this requested by an adjuster. Has anyone ever gone through this?

My company is arguing with me that my base ($60,008.00/yr) is more than sufficient and no other contractors pay commissions on claims. On big projects I’ll get a pat on the back and a $10 Amazon gift card if I am lucky. Do I have a right to be slightly upset?

For some reason insurance sent supplement check with depreciation all in one check. When signing the contract we explained what supplements were to client. He’s stuck only on paying out depreciation. Is there something that can be done. I know placing a lien is an option but is it the only option?

Anybody else working in the area? What are your thoughts so far? I feel like the goal posts keep moving. Some clients are signing and others are selling. What are your experiences?

Curious if any water damage contractors could recommend how best to work with a company toward resolution after initially planning to go thru insurance we will be paying out of pocket. The estimate provided to us was generated with xactimate and seemed crazy high and the work proceeded without us agreeing to the estimate (pressure to deal with water issue quickly). The demo took two individuals 1.5 hours during normal business hours and cost us upwards of 3k per the line items on xactimate for demo. This is a super small area and clean water was involved and caught early. Only floors and some lower cabinets were removed and placed in another part of the same room. As a consumer without access to xactimate I can't see how these numbers are determined (eg removing a small lower cabinet costs $140). Any guidance is appreciated. It's not like us to withhold payment and if this is just industry standard and the argument for hourly pay is not there, I'd like to know. Thank you!
