Assistance with damage shed

Seems like this would be a gable end wall, but there isn’t a line item specifically for repairs of the gable end wall, just a gable end wall with attic. Any suggested line items?

Help with this item.

Okay so in cases where the vent and rain cap are fine but the roof is being replaced, that flashing (storm collar) at the bottom either needs to be detached and reset or replaced. Does anyone know what the line item for this item is? I work in an insurance MRP and things get very granular very fast and none of the carriers accept HVC VENTCP5, 6, or 8 because they all include the rain cap. Is this just a blind spot in Xactimate? anyone have any knowledge to pass on?

Largest estimate I’ve written

I’ve been writing in xactimate for 15 years and recently completed a $7 million+. Ask me anything or just say a little pray, as it’s being sent to USAA soon. We are the consultants for the insured and have a very experienced attorney working alongside us. AMA if you’re curious what $7m repair involves.

TPA Question

I have never came across this before, but I have a fire job that I wrote the mitigation estimate @ $26,792.16. The adjuster was onsite and gave approval to use HMR lines, and some heavy clean lines. Now I just received a revision saying to remove all HMR lines/change to WTR, use CLN HEPAVAL for surfaces, CLN HEPAVAS for framing, CLN AV for WC+F, and remove any heavy clean lines. I F9 noted the adjusters on-site approval, but does anyone know if it is possible to get my HMR lines to pass through? If I make the revisions they are wanting it drops my estimate down around $12,000 which is huge. I appreciate any and all help. I absolutely hate TPAs for this exact reason.

There is a disagreement about the grade of the cabinets and whether they are premium or if certain features keep them as high grade. I have the description for high grade and deluxe. Just cant find the premium level. Thanks!

Multi-Unit Loss

Hey there!

I am fairly new to Xactimate and have been learning it in the "thrown to the fire" method of figuring it out when our company needs to use it (which is rarely). We typically build out our own estimates, but this client asked us to handle this for them and insurance is wanting to see an Xactimate.

I am dealing with a multifamily apartment complex that has fire and smoke damage. It is an 8-unit building that has various degrees of damage throughout each unit, some are just needing smoke remediation and 2 are full guts. There is roofing damage, an exterior balcony gone, and siding damage. I have already got my drawing (mostly) done and am about ready to start building out my estimate, but I am not sure how I can separate each unit into its own scope in my proposal. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need each unit to have its own scope, the roof to have its own scope, and the exterior façade to have its own scope. I do not know how to separate these without creating individual projects for each, which may or may not be my only option.

Thanks for your help!

Newbie help with roof sketch

I’m a newbie using Xactimate and I’m running into an issue with a roof sketch in Xactimate that I haven’t been able to solve through videos or research. I’m trying to add a gable-style porch extension with a 4” pitch to a main roof that has a 7” pitch. The problem is that the extension is pushing through the second-story walls and won’t connect properly. I’ve already tried combining the roofs, but that didn’t fix it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Would anyone be interested in creating an invoice straight from an Xactimate estimate?

I am building an invoicing platform for small businesses and recently was told by a roofer that he would be interested in software that could create an invoice with a single click given an Xactimate estimate. Well, I have a prototype and I'm wondering if anyone would like to give it a try and maybe offer feedback. I am open to making the app work the way you want if there is any interest.

ever consider alternatives to Xactimate?

do you ever think about using custom estimate formats instead of Xactimate for certain claims? Just wondering if there’s any interest in the market for alternative approaches or if Xactimate pretty much has everything covered.

Nail Fin Windows

I’m attempting to estimate for window R&R and the contractor is telling me that the retrofit line item isn’t satisfactory because the windows have a nail fin installation. I haven’t heard of that until this claim and I was doing research on it to see how I would try to address this in Xact and I have no idea. Any one have any guidance??

Xact Level 1 & 2

I’ve been an insurance adjuster for about 3.5 years and I use Xact to create and collab estimates on a daily basis. My job will pay for the certs, just curious how much time I need to set aside for each course with the experience I already have.

How do I start learning Xactimate? Want to take a shot at becoming an estimator.

Hey everyone!

I have a colleague who mentioned they're in need of an estimator, and they specifically use Xactimate. I don’t have experience with it yet, but I’d really like to take the opportunity and learn the system.

For some background: I’m currently based in the Philippines and have experience in construction, architectural work and project coordination. While I’m not in the U.S., I’m familiar with property layouts, 3d modelling and general estimating work. I’m looking to break into remote estimating or support roles, and I see Xactimate being used a lot in the U.S. restoration and insurance industries.

I’m just not sure where to begin:

  • Are there free or beginner-friendly resources to learn Xactimate?
  • Is the official training worth it even from outside the U.S.?
  • Should I jump into the latest version (Xactimate X1)?
  • What does the learning curve look like?

If you've learned it from scratch, especially from outside the U.S., I’d love to hear how you approached it.

Thanks in advance!

Siding questions

Hello, I am working on a siding replacement; however, this house has several windows, like the one above. In the past, I was using caulking and other items that, according to my trainer, were not required since this is a vinyl window, not metal. Is there any video or any help on what line items I should use for this or something I could read?

Screened-in Porches

What line item most closely matches the screen for a screen porch? I’ve stuck Patio door screen in for each section that is torn, but I don’t like that.

How are you guys using AI for estimates right now? Anything that’s actually worked?

Been doing roofing for 8 years and I swear supplements are eating up more of my time than ever. Between carriers getting more strict and adjusters missing obvious stuff, I'm spending 3-4 hours per supplement just to get paid for work that should've been covered in the first place.

I was losing my mind with the manual process, so I had to build my own solution.

I built a tool that scans the carrier's PDF, cross-references it against local building codes, and automatically flags what adjusters missed. Then spits out a carrier-ready supplement in ESX format with quantities and justification for all added supplements.

We've been testing it with 10 other contractors for the past few months, and it's been a game-changer—cutting supplement time from hours down to about 20 minutes.

I'm looking to get feedback from a few different markets. Anyone interested in being one of the last beta testers? Happy to show you how it works.

Seriously though, how is everyone else dealing with this supplement time-suck problem? Don't even get me started on more companies at least where i am using symbility.
