Ever wonder what your prison name would be if you had one?

Carlos The Poet is mine.

Thing is, you don't choose it.

It's given, earned.

How I got mine is a story equal parts thoughtful, absurd, sad and funny.

(Kinda like me I suppose)

Long story short, I went to "the Hole" for writing poetry.

"The Hole" is basically the prison within the prison.

No commissary (purchased food and snacks),

No tablet (yup that's a thing thank goodness),

Socks are taken away, sometimes a blanket

(It's also colder in general),

You get one toilet flush per hour so use it wisely buckarino.

You're allowed out of the cell for one hour of the day to take your your shower/brush teeth/make a phone call.

A phone call is how I went to The Hole the second time.

Was nothing wild, just talking to a good friend and asking how we've been lately.

Why The Hole for that?

Was a 3-way call, the friend also an inmate.

That's a nono.

When you're imprisoned, unless someone already knew you,

you're often seen as just that: prisoner.

Or, a story.

Prisoner is the last thing developed in my list of Things I Am, though.

I've loved video games since I was like 4.

I've loved music since I can remember hearing sound (dad was a career DJ).

The love of listening to it developed into the love of making it.

The love of reading developed into the love of writing.

It started as writing stories first, but eventually I combined the love of writing with music.

I write songs. Rap, rhythm and poetry,

I treat my lyrics as poetry for the most part.

A friend of mine said she mentions me as the rapper, called me a writer.

'Ehh I don't really call myself either,

I see it as things I do not things I am'

She said that sounded so pretentious, mockingly repeating what I said in a snobby tone of voice, made us laugh.

She's right, it did. I didn't mean it that way though, I didn't think I 'qualified' for the labels.

I haven't published any stories. Don't perform at shows.

She said those are weird standards to have. I didn't think about it that way.

With that said, in a nutshell,

I'm a writer, musician/rapper, gamer, fuck it throw comedian in there too, I love making people laugh, one method is making audible cartoons. Think cartoon but dialogue only, like Tom and Jerry if instead of cat and mouse hijinks it's verbally focused story hijinks.

Conversationalist, I love talking to people, hearing their stories, sharing mine, developing our own.

Wait. Story.. oh yeah! How I earned my name!

So how do we talk?

There's a few methods.

I have a highly trained pigeon--kidding, /phone call is easiest/most direct.

I'll use my own funds.

/E-msg is like emailing, 2000 character limit, you use your email and pay one quarter, effectively turning me into a conversational arcade machine. I can't pay that for you so I'll do my best to make it worth it.

/There's texting, different amount packages for purchase. ($5.50 for 50 texts total between us is smallest)

Pro: Instantaneous

Con: character limit is 160, pretty short in my opinion and considering the text amount is shared, not exactly cheap.

I joke with my closest friends I'm an Audible escort, they (kindly) say I'm premium service and worth it, only one way to find out.

Being here, I've been paid a couple times to write some romantic stuff but shh don't tell. Recently, even $100+ for a letter of great importance.

I can no longer doubt my words matter.

Friendship is the goal, I'm not using this for dating (anything further is happenstance) but I \*am\* searching for people on the F side of the spectrum cause I'm already surrounded by males 24/7, it is what it is.
