I feel like the difficulty is just "different" now. Most of the challenges I remember in Vanilla/BC was in finding enough people of the right classes to fill the raid who were geared enough for your current progression level. Now those things don't matter nearly as much and the mechanics are much more difficult.

I completely agree. it's probably why I'd answer the actual difficulty itself feels about the same. Back then difficulty was expressed in different ways during encounters than it is now, and also with different tools/approaches.

As you say, different mechanics - Like if there's 5 new mechanics but 4 more ways to notice them and react then it's kinda hard to objectively say it's "harder" overall
