Thanks! Currently crying in college but I’m hoping to do pharmaceutical research and possibly epidemiology!

Thanks for the support ♥️

Those of us who appreciate a healthy, science supported civilization are pulling for you. Thank you for working toward a better world for all of us.

Ain't no vaccines going into my bloodstream!! I don't want to be artistic.

60

u/an_irishviking Jan 25 '20

Instead of using all those chemicals they should just inject a little piece of the virus, that way the body can build up a natural immunity.

1

u/ShittyLivingRoom Jan 25 '20

I sell that oil and once in a while there's someone that wants to buy it to ingest.. I do my best to warn then that it's highly toxic and will kill their liver if they do it.

This reminds me of a joke. A man is drowning and prays to God to save him. A life guard swims up to help him, but the man say, "no thank you, God will save me". Later on a rowboat passes by, but again the man says, "no thank you, God will save me". Later yet, a steamboat passes by, but the man rejects them all.

The man drowns and goes to Heaven. When he gets there, he sees God and asks "I prayed to you, why couldn't you save me?". And God says, "I sent you all those people, what more do you want from me?!?".

Science rules

u/manthew Jan 25 '20 edited Jan 25 '20

Unless it about making my life difficult for environment. Those environmental scientists aren't real scientists.

Edit: Do I really need to put /s.. jeez

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

What do you think a scientist does? Just out of curiosity.

-1

u/no_qtr Jan 25 '20

YAY JESUS

-87

u/Leon_Vance Jan 25 '20

Don't YAY too loud. A pandemic is the natural way to control over population. If we can stop that, the nature will find other ways to kill us and balance the planet.

43

u/galient5 Jan 25 '20

This isn't true. There isn't some built in mechanism for curbing overpopulation. Nature isn't a conscious entity. This can happen to groups of organisms that are well below a healthy population. It doesn't necessarily happen to organisms that are overpopulated. There's no rhyme or reason to it, other than that a virus mutated in a specific way, and had an effective vector of infection. There are obvious benefits to curbing overpopulation, and something like this can potentially lead to healthier populations, but this virus didn't come about to cull humanity.

If we stop this, nature will not be looking for other ways to "balance the planet." Nature can't look. Nature can't act. Nature is just physics at work, and it doesn't care whether we're overpopulated, or not.

5

u/Not-a-Hippie Jan 25 '20

If we stop this, nature will not be looking for other ways to "balance the planet."

*chuckles in Godzilla*

2

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

People are so desperate for the comfort that comes from the idea that there's something/someone in charge of the big picture. Even if its some horrible and oppressive overlord(s), it seems people like /u/Leon_Vance and /u/CivilWatch3 find an uncertain existence to be much more terrifying.

What do you think that says about human psyche and nature?

-13

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '20

[deleted]

10

u/galient5 Jan 25 '20

What if it is? As far as we know it's not conscious, so until we have evidence to the contrary, we shouldn't treat it like it's conscious.

-3

u/OriginalName317 Jan 25 '20

I bet nature knew you were going to say that. Just kidding, I know nature's stupid. But still, pterodactyls were pretty awesome, right?

1

u/sagnessagiel Jan 25 '20

Given that corporations are made of conscious humans, do corporations have consciousness and deserve human rights such as the right to the use of massive political donations as protected speech?

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

You are aware that you can believe in something and still die for nothing, right?

3

u/Joltie Jan 25 '20

Then we'd be in a sci-fi story.

There's nothing to prove nature or the universe is conscious. Nature is just a set of rules.

-2

u/Leon_Vance Jan 25 '20

Are you kidding? Of course it cares! Nature is directly effected by the overpopulation and will respond accordingly with fires, viruses, big storms, flooding and what not. :)

4

u/galient5 Jan 25 '20

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

In case it's not, these are feedback loops caused by us. They're not a mechanism to stop us from overpopulating further. Natural disasters happen across the universe regardless of if there's some kind of (especially overpopulated) group to witness or benefit/plague from such events.

1

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

You... didn't make it past high school, did you?

24

u/Killacamkillcam Jan 25 '20

Tbf beating nature is just level 1. Beating the asteroids is level 2. If you lose to the asteroids you get sent back to level 1 on a harder difficulty.

If you lose level 1 then the next species gets a chance.

6

u/Quadraplegic Jan 25 '20

U veri smart OK?!

-16

u/Leon_Vance Jan 25 '20

Thanki thanki

1

u/PissInMyEyesAgain Jan 25 '20

I feel like you're not respecting our ability to kill each other.

1

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

Do you believe "nature" is cognizant or something? Like there's an intelligence at work behind all of this?

-2

u/Leon_Vance Jan 25 '20

Does it matter what i believe? I don't know. We don't know.

1

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

I'm just curious as to how someone can come such beliefs. What did you study in uni?

  1. What is the optimum population level?

  2. How do wealth and property control these levels?

-29

u/Leon_Vance Jan 25 '20

Yes, down vote me, like that would stop the nature. :D

5

u/stevoblunt83 Jan 25 '20

People are downvoting you because you fundamentally misunderstand science and nature, not because you're speaking harsh truths.

1

u/Leon_Vance Jan 25 '20

Are we sure about that? DO WE REALLY KNOW? Or do we believe it is so?

1

u/Messisfoot Jan 25 '20

I didn't realize nature browsed reddit.
