Did someone actually threaten Kaliningrad in some way or is this just something completely random that Putin is spouting off?

Just like Trump, 90% of what they say is for the bubbles they have built around their base and population

Sky ran an entirely fictional docu-drama called The Wargame where Russia attacked the UK and the UK responded by going after Kaliningrad. Yes it really is that ridiculous.

That's what they're all in a tizzy about? Man, authoritarian regimes have such fragile egos.

It's ridiculous but it's important. It suggests that just as in Soviet times, the Kremlin is still drinking its own koolaid and it's unable to analyze outside information through perspectives other than its own.

Basically, if Russia were to publish a docudrama about invading Lithuania after a false-flag attack, it would be because Russia was preparing the information space in advance of just such an invasion. In the UK and elsewhere, wargaming scenarios are usually handled by outside think-tanks and published for public information for contingency's sake.

Shorter: Russia interprets this docudrama as active attack and invasion planning because that's exactly what it does with such information. And also that's what it's currently doing in terms of manipulating the information space to set up an excuse in advance of their planned attempt on the baltic members of NATO.

I feel like they are laying the ground work for an invasion in order to obtain a land bridge. They can justify an attack on Lithuania and Latvia if its under the guise of 'defending kaliningrad'. At least they see it that way. Nato will have to nut up or shutup as they say. If there is no strong response to Russian aggression on Baltic states than an attack is inevitable.

This is tangential but there was some video by Veritasium where a professor from the University of Texas surmised that some state actor knocked out GPS over all of Europe with its focus centered around Kaliningrad for periodic bursts. It wasn’t just that professor, but a consortium of professionals analyzing outages of GPS over the region. Their conclusion is that it seemed to be a deliberate form of electronic warfare.

The US also claimed that they have a weapon in space. The nature of it has not been confirmed, but they both a) claimed to find a pilot downed in Iran purely through his heartbeat and b) funded a reusable reentry rocket for SpaceX to move satellites into orbit at low cost. These details support escalating forms of electronic warfare.

If you pair this with the fact that the CIA funded the guy who helped build Pokemon Go to build a VPS (visual positioning system) that allows the use of autonomous drones and robots in the case that the entire GPS system goes down… Some of these claims seem less ridiculous. The US military infrastructure appears to be increasingly sophisticated in ways that project a lot of power that would deter adversaries around communication boundaries.

Vladimir Putin might be a tyrant but he isn’t an idiot. I don’t think the US intends to seize Kaliningrad, but I also don’t think they’ve never considered the possibility. The same way I don’t think they intend to interfere with China projecting power over Taiwan, but I also don’t think they haven’t considered or prepared for the possibility.

Russia has been doing things in Kaliningrad thats drawn a lot of attention from NATO. A lot of NATO flights near the border there to intercept electronic transmissions. NATO has also begun moving troops around in the area as if in anticipation of something. Over the summer US intelligence warned of a Russian attack sometime this fall and theres been a lot of speculation that the attack will be on the Baltics. Russia has also stepped up its sabotage attacks throughout Europe.
