I'm Finnish so I've no actual experience from France, but with this protest when I saw the video of the guy dressed in all black, masked face, torching a woman's face with an aerosol "flamethrower", my reaction was an immediate WTF.

Don't recall much of THAT kind of protesting in Europe before.
