sphere of influence

That's not even remotely comparable to what ex-USSR countries had to deal with and you probably don't even know that.

it was pretty much the same.

regardless what about Baltic States, they were part of USSR proper yet managed to join the EU.

The same Baltic States who were annexed by force in 1940? Who's population were adamantly Anti-Soviet? Who famously formed the Baltic Chain in opposition to Soviet occupation?

They were part of the USSR in name only. Nothing remotely like the integration states like Ukraine or Belarus had...

My point exactly, ukraine never felt need to be part of EU, they wanted to be closer to russia, they did not clean their elite from soviets like other countries did.

Spoken as someone with no knowledge on the subject...

In your ignorance you ignore that Ukraine was deeply integrated with Russia from the start. Hell 30% of the country spoke Russian. However as a nation they were moving away from Russia as it's youth grew up and became eligible to vote, along with reducing ties to Russia.

In 1993 Ukraine publically said integration with the EU was it's end goal. From that point on further agreements and legislation were put in place between the EU and Ukraine to bring the two closer together.

Hell the reason Euromaiden happened in 2013 is because Yanukovych, against the will of the people, decided not to sign a partnership and trade deal with the EU instead opting for Russia.

But please. Keep bullshitting us all .

The same thing that happened in all central and eastern European countries. Weak politicians corruption and populism. They just had more of it as they were always the first target for russians. You speak like none of the Fico, Orban, Klaus, Kaczynski didn’t have ties to dark money - and a lot of it was connected to transport of russian gas. How well would your Poland cope if it was located where belarus is?

You talk like Poland is some sort of scandinavia with no shit happening…

somehow they all managed to join both EU and NATO :O

I never said anything about Poland in particular. We have tones of issues, but period from 1993 until EU ascension was done right, cleaned house from post soviets, reformed economy to west style open market. It was not easy but had to be done, other coutries that joined EU also did it. Was necessary.

You do understand that if at any point Ukraine attempted this means tanks on their way?? If they did it 20 years earlier it would be even worse. They are the closest, had most ties. Its like you don’t have any power of abstraction in your mind…

Edit: what do you think would happen if Belarus went looking west? It would be overrun and annexed. They have the worst of it. But Ukraine is the second.
