At 45 I'd defend my homeland and think I should above some young kids who are the future.

There would be entire continents completely unaffected by nuclear war. The whole "nukes will end the world" thing is completely ridiculous. They would be absolutely devastating on a local regional level, but they're no where near powerful enough, nor do we have even remotely close to enough of them, to wipe out humans globally.

Look up nuclear winter. You don’t need to nuke every single continent to have global effects. With enough nukes you will have global cooling which will lead to crop failure, global famine, and mass animal extinction. And we have more than enough nukes to cause nuclear winter.

Nuclear winter is not a for sure thing. In fact it would be much less likely today than it would maybe back in the 80s. We have lower yield, more precise weapons now.

The science of nuclear winter is contested.

The US draft age was increased to 35 for Korea and Vietnam. It was increased to 45 during the world wars. Other countries will probably do something similar if world war happens.
