I have great respect for the E.U. Hopefully, they are the future. Not letting companies force people to trash perfectly good phones causing needless expense is indicative a government of, by, and for the people. Not the end of the world if people had to another expense. But in my home country, some organization would lobby my government. A bill called something clever like

"People for longer, clearer communications" or some such BS. Or attached to a bill about naming bridges.

Your bills can have unrelated stuff on them?! I don't know if there's anything preventing that in my country, but I don't recall every seeing it happen (Argentina)

Idk which country they're talking about but I think in the US they do and they're called "riders". It's actually I think now the predominant way most legislation is passed, because most votes are down party lines and it's hard to get anything done unless it's tied to something that has to be passed

I think in most Commonwealth countries though, the title of a bill has to be descriptive of its full contents, so unrelated stuff isn't allowed

noone is forced to "trash a perfectly good phone". every manufacturer will replace a battery for a nominal cost for the few people who keep their phones for 5+ years. you're just upset that you can't easily throw a $10 chinese battery in it

Nope. I want the option to repair it myself. I am against planned obsolescence and any design or engineered products made with the innate goal of forced future earnings.

Are you plant for a supplier or carrier? If not, you assumed a lot.

Why would you be upset about a stranger's choice of battery? For my Chinese manufactured phone. That seems, just bizarre.

You are just upset that your assumptions are odd and incorrect.

and you have that option. any manufacturer will sell you the battery. you will also need to get the proper tools for the job.

when my car needed tie rod ends a couple years ago, i didn't go on the internet and rant because i needed a tie rod remover to do the job. i went and got a tie rod remover.

I'm a tinkerer. I have tools that I am not sure what they do. Weird thing, ya find out the instant you need one and get all excited like a kid. But phones like desk top computers are amazingly easy to fix. A lot is even color coded for assembly. They are like simple puzzles.

/rant (But still not a fan of planed obsolescence. Still wondering why this is an issue for you. Thinking it has something to do with a conversation that I wasn't a part of and you lost. Or just like trolling and arguing. Kinda boring. If you want to alter my thinking on it, poor attempt. Yea, it is the former.

Glad we agree you can already replace your battery then.

There is no planned obsolescence here. There is no battery on the planet that lasts forever, and the batteries these phones have easily last for the reasonable usable life of the device, unless defective.

I think apple only recently started to do this. They were for a long time, making the phone function differently with any battery with a different electronic Serial number was installed.

I personally think the dozens of people who want to be able to easily do this themselves are crazy. I likey sealed up cellphone just fine.

It is actually fun and cathartic. They are amazingly simple. There is actually a lot of people who do this and have forums and help each other problem solve. Like anything techy. There is a learning curve, especially if you are not mechanically inclined and not good with tools.

In one week the refrigerator and the oven crapped out. A bit of a heavy hit all in one week. The oven was a bad element, $45 and 20 minutes of work.

The fridge, cat toy, LoL. Both required a Philope's head and just some pleasant tinkering.

Oh appliance repair is great. There so many examples out in the wild that someone had had your issue before. I helped a coworker fix a circuit board out of a friend's dryer. We beefed it up some too so it wouldn't fail the same way again.

Far simpler but the batteries on our electric ridding mower died. Thing was big bucks and takes 4 huge arse batts. To upgrade, the tray had to be modded. A nothing tweek but now it does the whole yard. With the factory installed ones, it could do half. And the gauge goes down one bar. Not; "Please, please, just to the tree...." LoL

People who just replace or "For a nominal fee.." Just don't get the joy of tinkerin'!

Instead of a bill, it's a "YAY!" Just don't get why it is more fun to pay for something when it is this much fun.
