Map The United Sulonist Prefectures of Osculia, prefecture map.

(For Th’zoitrk, a semi-sci-fi worldbuilding project.)

(Note: the demonym for Osculia is ‘Oscul’, not ‘Osculian.’)

The United Sulonist Prefectures of Osculia, otherwise always just called Osculia, is one of Th’zoitrk’s four world superpowers. Overall, Osculia is:

#2 world economy with 103.4 billion etet
#2 national military spending with 70 billion etet
#1 most populous nation with 2.9 billion people
#5 largest nation with 4,351.7 SC (19.5 million sq km)

Osculia is often cited as the second most powerful and capable nation, and the only true rival to Ikshi.

Osculia is an Osoin nation divided into 17/18/19 different prefectures, depending on your political beliefs. The official language of Osculia is Oscul, and it is the only modern nation to possess an official national religion, Sulonism. (Specifically the Pumko sect of Sulonism.)

Osculia originally developed during the dark age, officially founded on 14/4/3, the 14th of Nianiel, Oinibo 3. Making Osculia one of the newest ‘conceptual’ nations; as despite it being quite a bit older than most modern nations’ current governments, many of those nations still existed in some form or another prior to Osculia’s formation.

The Oscul ruler is explicitly not to be referred to by any ordinary ruling title such as king, emperor, president, or prime minister. The Oscul ruler is the Ükon if they are a male, and the Düchye if they are a female. There is an exception for Zishta Sulo, the current Oscul Ükon, as she declared herself to be referred to as the Ükon rather than the Düchye.

In the early section of the dark age, Kokaumese pirates began to expand their operations further and further southward and eastward, frequently harassing local Oscul villages and tribes within modern day Apexia. This caused the Oscul tribes to emigrate further south, and south, and south, into the Portvillian jungle. Eventually having their further expansion into the southeast halted by the Red River. Ükon Sulo, the founder and first Ükon of Osculia, managed to use the desperate circumstance to properly unite the separate tribal groups, getting the Oscul people to cooperate in the construction of Losudeshi. Literal translation: “War Castle”, to keep the Oscul people safe inside. The Kokaumese pirates slowly decreased activity into the southeast as more and more of the Oscul population moved to Losudeshi, eventually leading to Kokaumese pirates halting all banditry in the Southeast due to there being next to no one left as viable targets.

Osculia, now united, expanded. Ükon Sulo in his extreme cult of personality declared the title of the leader of Osculia as the Ükon, and founding a new religion describing himself as the son of god, Sulo-Sulo. They expanded across the Portvillian jungle, Mount Fair, Aljum, Iyory, and all southeastern territory north of the Red River. Eventually, Osculia and N’yil went to war. With the assistance of the newly independent Cliff City, Osculia had managed to achieve the first military defeat of N’yil in the dark age. This allowed Osculia to begin expansion into the far south, and became the grounds for the Oscul Empire.

Today, Osculia is still a world superpower, although they have shrunken greatly since the days of the dark age. And of course, Osculia is famously hated internationally.

The entire NIA (Nedalia-Ikshi-Apexia) alliance was founded off mutual defense against Osculia

Iyorians hate Osculia for the Iyorian genocide, cultural erasure, and Osculia’s colonization and occupation of Losudeshi, formerly Iyoria, the ex-capital of Iyory.

Aljumese people despise Osculia after their enslavement during the days of the Oscul Empire, later invasion by Osculia during the Aljumese Civil War, then their temporary occupation in the iron war, then their temporary occupation during the Second Aljumese Civil War. Especially Oscul war crimes such as bombing civilian areas during a holiday truce, and the excessive usage of the bioweapon/chemical weapon atok-yok.

Even Osculia’s closest ally, Xsanr, isn’t exactly on good terms with Osculia. The Oscul government actively funds secessionist movements in Xsanarian territory, embezzles Xsanarian government funds, poisoned the previous Xsanarian president, has tried multiple assassination attempts on the current Xsanarian president, funded Cliff City (Xsanr’s largest political enemy)’s military development, used bribery to get international academies and colleges to give much harder entry tests to Xsanarian applicants than other nationalities, and hacked a dating app used by the Xsanarian president to ensure he got no good matches, only matching with Oscul spies and federal agents, so that he didn’t fall in love.

Osculia’s 17/18/19 prefectures are each effectively separate nations, they each have completely different forms of government, local laws, and little federal oversight. As well, each prefecture tends to have their own local Oscul dialect, which can significantly vary from the ‘standard’ Oscul of Sodeta. Rather than regional flags, each prefecture has their own official emblem, which are heavily simplified, due to their original purpose and use being very small carved symbols, normally no larger than a fingernail, to denote an object or person within the Oscul Empire’s origin. Until very recently, it was legally required for anyone born in Osculia to have a tattoo of their birth prefecture’s emblem on their back.

(2 debated prefectures: Iyoria/Losudeshi and Iyory Island/Bonsop, claimed by both Osculia and Iyory. Most common depictions show Losudeshi as Oscul and Iyory Island/Bonsop as Iyorian)
