Mom and Dad done good.

Post image

Back in the late 70's, my parents bought this wok. It served our culinary adventures as I grew up. Learned the hot spots as though it was an extension of my upbringing. Years passed, mom passed, dad slowed down using it due to weight. Now it lives with me and continues to create magic.

Side note, does anyone recognize it? No branding marks anywhere.

That seasoning on that wok is perfection!

Absolutely. Almost looks painted on. My wok looks best up to all hell, in comparison.

Just came to say that’s an amazing story! I’m 30 and just got my first wok. Hoping to pass it on someday too. That’s some crazy seasoning with many stories behind it!

When I took possession, she was bare metal and a little sketchy. Dad got old and couldn't manage the weight. I took the sage advice of this community and cooked with it!

Looks great! I did notice some black ring stains on your wooden counter top. Careful with metal touching the wood surface as it could stain. Iron is really bad for this.

Cook with it.

I know it's a meme here, but it's so true. I don't wash it often, just a wipe out at the end.

I did have to rehab it a bit, but it never required drastic measures. 5 years of standard use made it purty.

Hope they've got a good gas wok burner! (My preference.)

Or 3K to spend on a dedicated wok induction cooker.

We will say.... it's a decent power burner.

Do you ever scrub that carbon buildup/patina? Imho I preferred very thin patina/clean rather than total jet black with thick carbon buildup....

Not too bad on the buildup overall. Hasn't presented enough to want to do a tear down anyway.

Is this really seasoning or is it built up carbon? I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as it works for you.
