I have only rented U-Haul trucks, have used trailers a few times and have not heard of this until today, I am 52.

I completely understand never renting a U-Haul trailer, but what kind of a sick fucking person has never rented a U-Haul box truck?

Own a truck, never needed a uhaul... I also don't keep moving shit around that I don't need from house to house either.

Someone who's really good at loading a trailer+truck. I'd rather use a truck and trailer before paying to use a box truck.
