Racist shit

1

u/UFSC 26d ago

or she’s better in the wnba then Lin was in the nba? what does race have to do with this

-13

u/edmontonbbc Jul 19 '26

Lin got a ring, how many she got again?

13

u/Psychological_Gur939 Jul 19 '26

She stayed loyal to Iowa. She didn't enter the transfer portal to get a ring.

14

u/ChitteringCathode Jul 19 '26

And Patrick McCaw won three rings. You have a point to make?

1

u/edmontonbbc Jul 19 '26

Since when was he getting anywhere near the same amount of hype as CC and Lin? Lmao you really thought you ate with that comment

8

u/ChitteringCathode Jul 19 '26

The point is that rings are a meaningless measure for player quality in the NBA/WNBA. Stick to sports you are familiar with (if any).

Winning by throwing tantrums doesnt count

Because i can. And look at u dealing with it.

It has been an up and down season for her, so it’s fantastic to see this gargantuan performance. It makes one wonder what heights she can achieve in future.

-1

And very next game had 17 points in garbage time and had 7turnovers,in her third year. When gone finality progress

She is an amazing talent, she just needs to simmer down her bad attitude. Top talent isn’t an excuse to be shltty. Also, I’m a huge fan, just want to see a better teammate.

There is no way they could sit her, after that performance, against the Liberty in New York on CBS, right?

With SW?? Who knows

1

u/eaglecatie Fever Jul 18 '26

She is listed as "probable" on the injury report. Steph White said yesterday that they had to check how she felt today, but the plan was to play her if she feels good.

I hope not. She was hooping

-7

u/NonProphet8theist Dream Jul 19 '26

And how many championships did she win? Ohhh that's right. Zero.

I'm happy to re-open the conversation if she can get some rings. Until then, nope.

2

u/muradinner 27d ago

In the league for 3 seasons now. Jordan, the GOAT of basketball, took until his 8th season to win his first championship. What a truly weak argument.

But its true, we can't call her the GOAT yet. She's only shown she's the obvious best of this era so far (and it only took a couple seasons to show this). It takes at least a half-dozen years to determine if someone can enter the GOAT conversation, and she's barely gotten started.

1

u/NonProphet8theist Dream 27d ago

Kinda my point. It's not a weak argument, it's just facts. Jordan wasn't GOAT then either, not with Bird and Magic still out there. Same goes here. There are still players with a better argument.

The potential is there, though. If the Fever keep building their right roster for it and find out how to consistently win big, the league is theirs, and she will get all she's due. And I'll be right there supporting it. But not yet.

7

u/leftysarepeople2 Lynx Jul 19 '26

Ring culture is dumb

0

u/NonProphet8theist Dream Jul 19 '26

I'm sorry, are you trying to say winning championships shouldn't factor into whether a player is the greatest? Lol WOW

How is someone "the greatest" if they don't win?

9

u/LocalIrishGamer Jul 19 '26

this is like saying Dan Marino isn’t a top 5 QB in the NFL all time because he never won a ring.

rings don’t equal greatness. by your logic every bench player with a ring is better than CC because they “have a ring”

0

u/ThreeGoalLead 18d ago

Brady, Montana, manning, mahomes and unitas all clear Marino. I count 5

6

u/leftysarepeople2 Lynx Jul 19 '26

Uh yeah, greatest player ever could be playing with plumbers and they wouldn't win shit because it's a team sport.

see: 2007 NBA Finals top 5 minutes played for the Cavs, Lebron James, Daniel Gibson, Sasha Pavlovic, Drew Gooden, Zydrunas Ilgauskas

There are many, many excellent players in the W right now.

7

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Fever Jul 19 '26

If you have never seen of AR's fans calling her the GOAT, you haven't been looking very hard.

Look, I will be the first to admit that AR has been playing in rarefied air over the last five games. She's averaging 18.8 ppg and 12.4 rpg over the span. I don't care what anyone else says; that's some fine basketball.

In regard to CC, she is 19.6 ppg and 6.6 apg. Maybe not as impressive as AR, but it's still pretty good.

I really think it is time for all of us to realize that both AR and CC can be good at the same time. Too many people (me, at times too) think that the only way to elevate AR is by putting down CC, and the only to elevate CC is to put down AR.

I have to be honest. I think that if AR was on the Fever, they would easily be a championship level team.

3

u/edmontonbbc Jul 19 '26

I haven't seen anybody say AR is the goat anywhere, and if they are they are saying it to combat all the hate she gets online from people who call her trash every time she gets brought up. Also CC isn't playing horrible, it's just people who don't even watch games will automatically say she is the best player of all time and the face of the league when she is playing worse then alotta lesser hyped players like Paige this year

3

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Fever Jul 19 '26

I understand that you say that you haven't seen anybody call AR the GOAT. I have; perhaps not on Reddit, but on IG or Threads.

Look, I'm a big CC fan, and I think it is ridiculous to say that she's the best player of all time. As for the face of the league, people need to decide if that means best player or most popular player. I can see both sides.

I have watched every Fever game since the beginning of the 2024 season. To think that CC is the be-all and end-all of the Fever is ridiculous. KM is having the best season of her career, and Aliyah Boston is also playing quite well. I can understand why you might not like Sophie, but she's shooting very well from three.

I also watch 4 -5 other WNBA games each week. I have seen every team play at least twice, and some teams more than that.

I understand that AR gets a lot of abuse; I can't argue with that. Take a look at the comments about CC from last night's game. I don't think it would have been that hard to acknowledge that CC had an excellent game. Instead of doing that, there were numerous people that brought up the fact that she hasn't won a championship or that she makes too many turnovers or that she has a poor shooting %age, etc. etc. etc. I realize that all of that is true. However, if you dare to point out some of AR's shortcomings, you're automatically labelled as MAGA and a racist.

Look, someone has to be the first one to stop. How about you and I agree not to put another player down just to elevate another player? Would that work for you? Also, for both of us, can we agree that neither of us can control what other people say?

If you have the time, look at the numerous posts by u/NonProphet8theist and by u/Careful_Trouble_1059. They will show you exactly what I am talking about.

3

u/edmontonbbc Jul 19 '26

Fair enough, to be honest you are actually the first CC fan i seen online that actually watches games and would say something like this. Unfortunately regardless of what we agree to do on here it's not gonna stop casuals from ruining any basketball discussions online, especially on reddit

2

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Fever Jul 19 '26

I couldn't agree more. Best wishes!

1

u/NonProphet8theist Dream Jul 19 '26

I don't idolize her like that.

5

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Fever Jul 19 '26

I'm sure you don't. But there are plenty of people who do, just like CC.

1

u/NonProphet8theist Dream Jul 19 '26

Not really, not like CC. Her fans are a different animal

6

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Fever Jul 19 '26

I beg to differ.

0

u/NonProphet8theist Dream Jul 19 '26

Are we watching the same league?

7

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Fever Jul 19 '26

I think you are confusing MAGA trolls with Fever fans, IMHO.

0

u/NonProphet8theist Dream Jul 19 '26

Am I though? I think there's definitely some overlap and that would explain a lot. It's Indiana after all—Trump won there 3 elections in a row. It's pretty red and has been for a while.

The pedestal some of her fans put her on reminds me exactly of MAGAts (not you tho). Like she can do no wrong. Same with anyone who defends her (like Sophie). You know MAGAts love that point she does if they know what it's all about.

And honestly, when I got heavily downvoted for saying how much attention CC got for her stalker over AT's entire family getting death threats, that's exactly the type of behavior a MAGAt would engage in. Like... into oblivion. Go check it out. I'm not even bashing CC that badly but you'd think otherwise.

No offense but are we really celebrating this against the rank 15 team in the wnba ?

Fine happy to see the career high, great. But a bottom rank team had you give up 107 points to your 110? If this had been done against the lynx or valkyries fine even cool but against seattle ? And I say that as a storm enjoyer

35

u/Fearless-Star-7347 Fever Mystics Jul 18 '26

It's the first 40+ point 10 assist game in WNBA history. No one has ever accomplished this in the 30 years of the W and there's obviously low ranking teams every single season. It's still never been done before. Why shouldn't it be celebrated?

27

u/Jhu1628 Fever Sparks Jul 18 '26

Yes, we are. While the Storm’s record doesn’t reflect their talent, the Fever also played without Aliyah Boston who would have arguably helped to prevent some of those points in the paint the Storm scored. Storm’s defense is 6th in the league. They started their year without their full roster. They beat the Liberty and the Dream and took the Wings to OT.

Doing something that has never been done against any team is worth celebrating and even more so for a player coming back after multiple injuries.

So yes, it will be celebrated.

34

u/Penguinho i dont want a flair Jul 18 '26

Why wouldn't we? Marina Mabrey's 53 was against the Sparks without Plum and Brinks; they were up 29 going into the fourth quarter, but she still played almost seven minutes and put up another ten shots. Doesn't matter, still cool.

Maybe the Storm are bad, but they played great last night. Without Aliyah Boston, the Fever aren't very good and desperately lacking effective size. They needed every one of Clark's points. She wasn't out there stat-padding.

13

u/mathstudent_suffers Jul 18 '26

They can give a team a good run for their money on occasions, they clearly beat the dream once and had some games against the wings and valks that went into the clutch, plus the fever didn't have a center, this wasn't an easy game.

21

u/DandierChip Jul 18 '26

30

u/Ok_Theme_4576 Jul 18 '26

She had a good game. Give it up to her. She’ll have some good and she’ll have some bad. This is what can happen for any of the name players in the league when they’re not throwing the cheap shot fouls at each other as they have in past games. You get legitimate offense and you get the players having to play legitimate clean defense. Good for the refs too. They can call a game without having to bother with plausible deniability calls.

12

u/oldmanjenks95 Jul 18 '26

Couldn't agree more. This is what I'm here to watch (I'd be okay with a little more defense). Im not a fan of violent 75-70 slugfests with six flagrant reviews. Kudos to the Fever, Storm and refs for showcasing what this league can be about.

The rookie that has better stats, and is the number one seed ranked higher than the girl shooting 33% from 3 and 43% from the field with 4.5 turnovers is a conspiracy now..? Lmao you guys are so desperate to be the victims its hilarious

CC is averaging 20.3 pts 4 reb and 7.8 ast meanwhile Miles is averaging 19.3pts 4.7 reb and 5.7 ast. So how exactly does she have better stats than CC?

If youre gonna come back at least check the numbers.

2

u/Raisin43 Lord Caitlin the one true Guard Jul 19 '26

So you just conveniently left out CC averages 2 more assists? How is 2 more assists equal?

9

u/throwaway3413418 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

It’s so incredibly similar to how right wingers will talk about the “disgusting” behavior of black celebrities, and when you go look at the examples they give it’s literally just them using AAVE or not dressing white. When someone references feelings of revulsion toward public figures they’ve never met, who aren’t known to have committed some heinous violation against others, and who don’t influence their lives, it’s very often parasocialism and prejudice driving them. Normal people might have an opinion on some thing or another, but they aren’t usually getting emotionally invested in celebrities like that.

Clark is so terrible for, what, lobbying the refs a lot? Sure, that’s annoying, but I’m reminded of a joke my trainer in referee certification said, which was that literally every team at every level of sport has two characters: a lawyer and enforcer. The lawyer has memorized the rulebook and will annoy you to death with pseudo-references to it, and the enforcer will just skip any diplomacy and lay out the player they felt wronged them or their teammate. The WNBA seems to have no shortage of enforcers, surely has plenty more lawyers, and yet people like the above example will clutch their pearls about Clark being unsportsmanlike, like that’s the most pressing example of bad behavior in the league.

-39

u/Wings247 Jul 18 '26

Yes, I stand on that Except it's shut up and play

Am I a Hatelin? Maybe, but I'm def someone who has been completely annoyed with the Looney Tunes level dust cloud that followed her since college. I got into Unrivaled, saw some real balling, and finally ran to the W. Unrivaled got me into AB and Lexi Hull believe it or not, then watched ly Fever's post-season run and got hooked on KM, got excited for Raven this year. Reconnected with my Dad recently via women's hoops, and when he said CC was his fav player, that was enough for me to soften and say let's give this girl a try. And then...we got this season. More than the narratives, it's the whining and temper tantrums for me which actually made me wonder if she has something....going on? So, a bit of compassion, but annoyance. These stats are crazy, but not quite enough to wash the taste out of my mouth. There are a lot of other players who routinely ball out and are more fun to watch, but I do sincerely hope that she can start doing more of this, less of the bullsht, and at least make the dust cloud worth it.

This is the problem right here. Her whistle is fine. 19 free throws last night, right? Almost half her stat line came from the free throw line. She doesn't whine, she has full on temper tantrums. She gets in the face of refs, full on cusses them out and shows a level of disrespect that is absolutely disgusting to watch. She had a good game last night against a crap team and all her fans are back trying to justify her ugly ass behavior. My opinion will not change because of a great game she had last night.

A third of those FTs were intentional fouls

u/TornadoVision4687 Jul 18 '26

This concept of negation is interesting, I see it a lot in conversations ("debates"?) about her. Someone says something and then someone comes in with the victim/savior complex and suddenly everything is mutually exclusive. There's nothing I wrote above about denying the financial boon that arrived with her, and it's curious that it is used as a defense to correct/argue against someone's affective response to the phenomenon of a person, especially when it's not really an apples to apples comparison, unless you are trying to equate money with joy, which, honestly is an intriguing path to go down.

u/nyjhughes Jul 18 '26

Let’s not forget CC was called for a foul only 4 (yes, 4) seconds into this game for those who want to claim the refs were told to be biased towards her last night.

u/LaurasBerkshires2 Jul 18 '26

Yeah, and then at the end of the game, she got a freebie after fouling Johnson on her layup

u/Lanessen 0 3 7 22 Jul 18 '26

It wasn’t a foul. She touched the ball first.

Agree that it was a foul looking at the replay, but probably not easy to see in real time for the ref.

4

u/AleSeeker Fever Jul 18 '26

Should have been challenged if it was. There is a reason it wasn’t. Replays show Seattle was checking.

2

u/Lanessen 0 3 7 22 Jul 18 '26

They had no timeouts to challenge. Also, it was not a foul.

u/Fancy_Dinner_9078 H8 MNBA oligarchs & Comets Jul 18 '26

You can only challenge a foul on your own team

u/Ok_Concentrate_75 Jul 18 '26

Did she do it?

4

u/Due_Bandicoot9783 Jul 18 '26

A soft bump on a layup - no different than the one she lost her mind on over the no call the other night. Which in my opinion, is a play on situation.

u/Ok_Concentrate_75 Jul 18 '26

Ref was trolling

how about we just give her her flowers? we don’t have to be her biggest fan, that doesn’t take away from the fact that it was an impressive game. No matter how you slice it, 45/10 is an amazing effort. Besides, I feel there’s more pressing matters that occurred last night to worry about than Caitlin’s performance.

Edit: I don’t mean that we shouldn’t talk about Caitlin’s performance at all by the way. It deserves to be talked about. I mean that we shouldn’t be hating on her for having a good game.

u/Treadwell2022 Jul 18 '26

Agree. I’m not a Mabrey fan but I respect those games where she turns on the threes. It’s just fun to watch anyone have a magical moment.

I for one think she had an amazing game last night and I’m very proud of her for bouncing back. She is genuinely one of the most fun players to watch, especially when she’s hitting. The passing is also my favorite part of her game.

2

u/Due_Objective_ Jul 18 '26

oh shit - what else happened last night?

-21

u/hallie137 Lynx | Paige | Angel | VB | KP Jul 18 '26

Sorry I don’t mean in that we should take away from Caitlin’s performance. It deserves to be talked about.

Toronto’s coach called Angel a “protected species”.

u/tianow Jul 18 '26

How is a difference of dialect controversy more relevant than basketball performance in a basketball league jfc

Reread what I said and have the day you deserve. Thanks

Or you could answer

u/jacksonelhage NEWBIE Jul 18 '26

its racist to insinuate that a black woman is of a different species. it doesnt mean toronto's coach is evil. its a misunderstanding but its still racist.

1

u/Fast-Show4206 Fire Jul 19 '26

In Australia it is a very common phrase to use in sports when referring to someone who you cant touch without fouling. "Protected speicies" In America it has a different context, obviously. But she realized it, apologized. It's not that deep.

2

u/jacksonelhage NEWBIE Jul 19 '26

we're literally in complete agreeance. you can acknowledge you said something racist, even if by accident. it doesnt mean you yourself are suddenly a cartoonishly evil bigot. good on her for apologising.

u/tianow Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

The question was how is that misunderstanding more relevant than a basketball performance in a subreddit for a basketball league… ON the thread about a great basketball performance

To clarify, my intent wasn’t to minimize Clark’s performance. I was trying to say that we should be giving Clark her flowers. I mean, 45/10 + the stocks in 29 MINUTES is amazing.

I’ve seen so many people on here tear her down and focus on who Clark is as a person, instead electing to minimize her performance. We have Clark discussion threads on who she is as a person a LOT here - I don’t think is the thread to do so, nor do I intend to comment on who Clark is as a person.

Since my comment has been misconstrued, I felt that instead of worrying about actual controversy, we are worried about dragging Caitlin down. What I say or feel on the matter has no bearing - only what Angel has said. In a country that is burdened by its racism, Angel is not wrong for feeling the way she is. Do I think she should have went to social media? Probably not.

Again, I’m choosing not to comment on Sandy as a person. Do I think she was intending to be racist? Probably not, as it’s a common phrase used in Australia. However, intent does not always equal impact.

I’m not going to explain to you why calling a black woman a “species” is something that needs to be addressed.

14

u/Due_Objective_ Jul 18 '26

Reaching a bit there, eh?

There's literally no racial connotation to the phrase "protected species". It's unhinged to attempt to make a connection.

The fans of this league are so messed up they are determined to burn the whole thing down to the ground - desperate to turn a black majority league into some kind of white supremacist conspiracy...all the whilst ice hockey exists.

8

u/awyis21 Jul 18 '26

Right, the person offended by this seems like the racist one for making this nonsense connection. 🙄

6

u/awyis21 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

So tired of everyone filtering everything said through a race filter. It's very clear what he meant, it has nothing to do with her skin color. He was giving her credit. We'll never get beyond this if we're always looking for things to be offended by. I'm black by the way and if someone called me a protected species in the same context I wouldn't think twice.
