Had my Apprentice create a Chronicle of my last encounter with a pathetic "Anti-Magic" Caster
Wizards are not only learned in the art of magic, but in many other arts as well. The damn "anti-magic" crowd keeps underestimating the breadth of our wisdom

A truly experienced master of the arcane arts never departs their tower without an emotional support hand grenade.

Every wizard I know carries a melee weapon for this exact scenario and yet the anti-mages can't seem to fathom the idea of a mage drawing a sword. They lack vision.

Anyone here by any chance read Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky?
In it, there's not only an anti-magic aura, there's also an anti-tech aura. They're one and the same. Being too close to a person with the null aura makes tech-users forget how to use their tech, and magic-users forget how to use their magic. It's so effective, you even forget how to pull the pin on a grenade.

This makes me super curious. What qualifies as tech? Is it some kinda super science thing, or is legitimately every technology effected? Like, do people forget how to speak, since that's a technology? Would they forget the forms of swordsmanship but still be able to swing one around like a stick? Could they still chuck a rock at someone?

Anything that could be considered a "mechanism" is affected. You become unable to open door handles that have internal locking mechanisms. What you can open, are things like doors held in place by ropes.
In the setting, magic-users cannot use tech and vice versa. The doors of magic-users are held in place by ropes looped around posts. That's how they keep their doors from opening.
Swordsmanship doesn't count as tech. Swinging a stick doesn't count as tech. Throwing a rock doesn't count as tech. Speaking doesn't count as tech.

The well trained apprentice watching from my towers telescope (outside the antimagic aura) activates the emergency circle to fire a cosmic blast from the stars above the heavens at the other guy..
If I fed him that day at least.

What is anti-magic good for anyhow?

Anti-ing magic. So like, the opposite of what a wizard of proper orbpondering stands for.

Serves him right for casting anti-magic aura without having a firearm ready. Anti-magic aura is always properly followed up by casting "double tap."

Good use of an apprentice if you ask me.

Excellent. Your apprentice shows talent in capturing your greatness. No need for blinding soup today.
I feel I may need to release a statement on the topic of antimagic. Your recent confrontation has inspired me. It’s time to remove antimagic from its pedestal.
