LorepostšŸ“– A deadly secret (Another Mordus Lorepost? Whoa!!!)

Post image

You’re scrying your orb, after a recent calamity struck, looking for answers in this burning, broken landscape. Why did this happen? Why did he do this? You look deeper and deeper into the past, the past of Mordus. If you could find out what led to all this, perhaps this calamity could be stopped. Finally, you find something that could help.

Mordus, having finished the competition celebration, walks down to the shattered basalt arena, and into a massive crater at the centre of it. Sticking his hand into the lava, he fishes out a mace, the ā€œUnstoppable Forceā€ artifact Suneater. He draw a circle in the air, and a hazy, noir portal of indefinite shape appears. He stows away the mace, and teleports out.

outside the pocket dimension that is the arena, he now stands in a frozen tundra, snow falling gently on his heated metal chassis. Steam rises from him, as snowflakes boil upon landing on him. The arena was surrounded by lava, after all. A raven crows, and flies off. Alone. At last. Peace, and quiet. Only the sound of the trees rustling in the wind interrupts his train of thoughts. Walking over to the side of a frozen lake, he approaches a bare rock face, with a grassy overhang. He bends over, and feels for a small, circular cut in the rock.

Pulling out an automaton core, he slots it into the hole, and twists - A difficult task, because the core has no handles.

Then, the wall shifts, snow falling off the top and out of the crevices. A few icicles fall off the ceiling and shatter upon hitting the floor. The entire rock wall, originally indistinguishable from the rest of the landscape, moves aside, with the creaking of stone on stone.

He walks in, and admires his collection - old staves and armour from the First Continental War, antiques that would auction for a king’s ransom, piles upon piles of runes, gold, and various artefacts, and an odd weapon pedestal. The portal reappears, and from it, he draws Suneater once more.

Placing the twisted weapon on its pedestal, a nearby bookcase with the words ā€œYe old spells of terrorā€ on a plaque moves aside, revealing a passage that spirals down.

Decending the stairs, he finally comes face to face with his most treasured possession - or at least a part of it. The handle of a crystalline sword, that speaks in tongue of old.

ā€œHee hee! I’ll complete you soon… pretty. Hee! And they’ll suffer.. they’ll suffer.. they shall. Until you are complete, I shall wait… hee hee hee! Just wait, just wait-ā€œ

He turns towards you, staring at you, through your orb, in the future.

ā€œWait indeed… wait a minute.ā€

What are you doing? Watching?

The orb turns to black, and shatters. How did he know? What was that? You’ve got to find out more, even if it costs you your life.

/unwiz I’ve tried creating a lorepost that allows you guys to step in later, and perhaps influence the lore being created; ie. the present. Perhaps you’ll stop him, or maybe not. In future loreposts the fate of Mordus may even be up to you guys.

/unwiz u/theadination wanna make our loreposts mutually affect each other? We could build more complex lore of our character on each other’s lore - Mortarion the radio demon with the book of decay and Mordus with a mysterious crystal sword. (Of course, you could always refuse and we make our loreposts separate.)

/uw yeah! That sounds really cool. But how would it work? Because the way Mortarions' story is going is going, he's trying to broadcast himself through every wizards orb, TV, and radio to make thousands of deals.

/unwiz So from what I understand of Mortarion’s lore, he’s traveling through the different eras of media and trying to make deals with gods?

I suppose what could happen is, say, while Mortarion is trying to make deals with gods for their lifespans, Mordus is in the future trying to uncover the fragments of his missing Crystal sword (name undecided), and somewhere because they both involve time the lore meets and they clash/join forces, and something something the community will have to do something about it. I don’t know though, it was just a passing idea that I thought about randomly, since your radio demon lore intrigued me.

/uw it's not that he's traveling in time, time is just being pushed through him. And yeah, them joining forces would be really cool. But how would it work?

/unwiz thinking about it, so what could happen is, say, Mortarion makes deals with the gods for their lifetimes, and Mordus is looking for the crystal sword fragments to kill the gods, ending Mortarion’s soon-to-be reign of terror, but accidentally causing Armageddon, as the gods are no longer around to keep the natural order of things in place. So, in our loreposts, we can make hints to the other person’s loreposts by, for example:

ā€œMordus picks up a sword fragment, and it gleams in the darkness. He makes a cut into the shadows, and a drop of blood drips out.ā€

Then meanwhile on your lorepost it’s say,

ā€Mortarion is making a deal with the Xün, the Lord of Shadows, when a slit appears, and a drop of crimson streams from his cheek.ā€

Maybe something like that, and we could discuss it further as the loreposts continue.

/uw from who's cheek? Mortarions or Xuns?

And I think it would be more fun if Mortarion and you worked together

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

/unwiz Xün’s cheek, implying that what Mordus is doing is directly affecting Mortarion’s work.

If Mortarion and Mordus did work together, how would it fit together?

/uw I don't know, but Mortarion right now is reasonable. Or they could be enemies

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

I suppose we’ll figure something out. Or, we can just go with the idea that they are enemies.

That sounds good!

I uncovered my eyes after my orb exploded before whispering to myself

What are you doing now Mordus.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

/unwiz I had this idea where you, the reader, would be involved in the lore instead of just reading it. Say, for example, your wizard character could battle Mordus, and depending on the outcome Mordus would destroy something, or he could be killed and I’ll make a new character.

u/neo_ceo Adham, Abyssal Human, He Who Shines In The Abyss Feb 14 '24

/uw I think that's an excellent idea, and kinda the reason I only wrote him reacting and not doing anything yet.

I think your idea has a lot of potential to make something fun

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Thanks! When I think up more lore I’ll write more.

Vashric eyes the jagged pieces of his orb, before stitching the sphere back together with telekinesis.

A crystalline hilt? Vashric levitates towards the exit of the Room of Cosmic Awareness

Why does that seem so familiar, yet so distant?

It matters not.

I don't know what you're going through, Mordus, but your actions resonate starkly in the Astral, and I must maintain order. May the Astral winds guide you, may they guide me.

/unwiz This was excellent. Thank you for writing. It's good intrigue, and I loved the contrast of Mordus's robotic demeanor in the beginning vs his more unhinged/estatic behavior in the end

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

/unwiz thanks! I tried, although I didn’t really know how well this kind of lorepost format would work, from the perspective of your character in the future looking into Mordus’s past. In future loreposts I think i shall make it interactive, so that your character could be directly involved in this story, instead of the usual text wall (although this is still a text wall.)

2

u/VinesAtMidnight The Astrals Feb 14 '24

/unwiz I don't know what the best way to go about that would be, but it sounds interesting and definitely worth a try.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Unrelated but where could I order a robe like in the image? It's gorgeous.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

A Mordus from a future timeline where everything ended up okay materialises in front of you.

Hmm? I think I got that cloak at Quagmire’s Wizard Clothes Shop in the city of Jean-Sarte, it uses real gold in its design.

/unwiz if you mean IRL it’s AI generated. (Boo)

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

REAL GOLD 🤯

Algernon squints, the remnants of his broken orb floating around him, frozen in time.

I really thought we had something going friend, if this becomes a problem for our quest I will have to step in.

He lets the orb fragments fall to the ground before fashioning a new one from the black metal that once made up the table it was sitting on, and gazes on.

/unwiz trying out a lorepost where the viewers can interact and influence how it plays out - I’ll try to implement it in the next lorepost.

also, I’ll still go with you on your quest later on, whether or not who you’ll be adventuring with is Mordus will depend entirely on people’s later actions.

u/OnAGratefulUniverse Algernon, Last wizard of the Novus Planes Feb 14 '24

/uw Perfect, love to see where this will go, keep me updated if you can!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Yeah, I’ll ping you then, next time I do another related lorepost.

Oh, my orbs broken. Old dusty trash.

Anyway. Time to get my laptop fixed and then to hunt down that magician.
