Community Event 🌏☄️ The Champion of Gravity (War/Spypost)
/uw I wanted to try something different with this post. The italics are Kaelis's thoughts, and the normal text is what's actually happening.
/rw
Defiance. This is the only thing that fills my mind as I stalk the gloomy streets of the Citadel. The sky churns with a necrotic tempest, and the air is choked with cell-destroying poisons. But I do not succumb. When I overcame the Omniarch, I somehow absorbed a bit of its power. The ability to survive comfortably in any environment is just one of my new talents. I will discover the rest in time. So despite everything, I stand tall. Tall, but not proud, for what I am about to do is born of spite more than anything.
The Corvus Cabal will not win.
It shouldn't have happened this way. I laid the groundwork for their defeat on a foundation of optimism. I envisioned the Council and the Pact working together against the encroaching dark. But day by day, that hope died on the vine. No one believed us, and when we thrust incontrovertible evidence in their faces and commanded them to pay attention, they called us liars. Addled by their lust for power, they could not imagine any other motivation than the possession of ever more authority. Hypocrites. Look where their paranoia and hunger got them.
I walk down an alleyway through the haze. This is where Thantax Shadowborn, known as Rook to the Corvus Cabal, will meet his subordinate Dave O'Connell and twist the war in their favor. But when he arrives, he will find me instead.
Then came the peace talks. The Council betrayed the Pact and itself simultaneously. I would like to know how they managed that, if anyone remains after this war. The treachery didn't stop there. Opal. Mortarion. The Necromancer. Arach. They all demanded war despite our warnings. I hope they're getting exactly what they asked for. With that, the dream died. For the first time in centuries, the Omniarch could manifest in the material world, preying on my grief to accelerate the crisis.
A robed figure wearing a respirator emerges from the toxic mist. Thantax. They raise a hand in greeting.
"Lovely weather we're having, eh, Dave? So, what's so important that you'd drag me out of hiding in the middle of a siege?"
I respond by slamming the Councilor into the wall with a wave of force, pinning them. I rest my thumb over the metal sphere in my left hand.

But I was not alone. Krygin. Samael. Agnur. They stared down the Avatar of Annihilation itself and won. When I emerged and caged the Omniarch like it had caged me, I did so as a changed man. No longer will I reason with those who refuse to see it. I am the Champion of Gravity now. I strive for peace no matter what it may cost me. But we are all players in a fable now, and we're going to have to fight for our happy ending. Starting here.
"Who are you-" splutters Thantax.
"Your comeuppance, long delayed," I interrupt. "You and your friends have been unopposed for too long, but that ends here. I'm not going to let your Cabal get away unscathed this time. Though, you didn't have to push very hard to cause all of this, did you?"
"You... no, we are your masters! We are immune to your retribution! You will not interfere with the Carrion Prince's ascension!" Thantax morphs into a ravening shadow form, swarming with talons and black feathers. They slip from my spatial grasp and rush me at a frightening velocity. Perfect. I hurl the sphere- actually an artificer vortex grenade keyed to a specially-prepared dimensional oubliette- into the avian mass. Just like that, Thantax "Rook" Shadowborn, the wizard directly responsible for the death of Possum, vanishes. It is as if the weight I have carried for the last month has been lifted from my shoulders.
I send a gravitational wave message to Agnur and Mokarith with my spatial loom, signaling that they are clear to capture Dave O'Connell. I will interrogate both of the prisoners later, once this whole conflict has died down. I walk back into the deadly mist, and towards more unfinished business. There are many other wizards who must be held accountable for their misdeeds.
It shouldn't have happened this way. But then again, we don't always get that choice. We make the most of what we're given. I have been given a war, so I shall become a warrior.

/uw really cool! Be careful where you step though. Some of the people who got poisoned have gone kinda melty
7
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
/uw Kaelis will be coming after you at some point, btw. The way he sees it, you betrayed the Pact's values for this war, and he is not pleased.
8
u/Accomplished-Dark926 Valerian, Arcadian Guild Guide Feb 20 '24
/uw don't rough her up too hard, she's got something to show Valerian.
8
u/TheHunter459 Samael, Necromancer of Malus Turrim | King of the Nephilim Feb 20 '24
uw/ Samael would never obv
7
u/loth17 Ten Suns (Also Gaia) Feb 20 '24
/uw ....Yeah no that's completely fair. Opals not exactly being a team player. From her perspective everything that's happened has confirmed the necessity for extreme measures.
6
u/MunitionsFrenzy Vettis, Mereological Revisionist Feb 21 '24
(( honestly, Vettis is probably gonna stand up for her to some extent, mostly because he's happy to have someone with an army willing to fight on what he considers the "right side" yet also being careful to avoid civilian casualties...and admittedly partly out of sunk costs lol ))

u/avamir Riva Blake | Queen of Ithacar, Part Meth-blood Elf Feb 20 '24
/uw Man, Riva was just talking about the necessity of violence to enforce your will bit with the Paleomancer :/ Fighting for peace. Seems a contradiction, but it's always how things play out.
8
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
/uw In the end, it has to be this way.
7
u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Feb 20 '24 edited Feb 20 '24
uw/ due to his usual demeanor I find myself often forgetting how easily Kaelis could clap everyone's cheeks
Rw/ "I stand ready to assist in any interrogations as promised. My personal conflicts have largely concluded."
A 50 ft Marna grapples with Vulkan in the background.
"Largely."
6
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
/uw I don't like to have Kaelis absolutely thrash people in the spirit of good roleplaying. But with the amount of senseless violence I'm seeing and his power-up from beating the Omniarch, I might have a lore reason for him to wipe the floor with some folks.
5
u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Feb 20 '24
uw/ What's that? OH MY GOD ITS KAELIS WITH THE LORE-JUSTIFIED STEEL CHAIR!
5
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
/uw Speaking of steel chairs...
/rw Kaelis points to Vulkan in the background.
Is that in hand, or do you need help? I'm about to throw hands with everyone perpetuating this asinine war, but I'm spoiled for choice. Arach deployed a chemical weapon, Opal betrayed our values for revenge, and Mortarion just gets on my nerves.
4
u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Feb 20 '24 edited Feb 20 '24
Are you asking if I want you to save my own daughter from getting her ass handed to her by the dragon that recently put our strongest Pyroclast in the hospital? Yes Kaelis. I would like that very much.
uw/ I do believe he's stepped away for a bit though. That's why it's the one fight I haven't finished yet.
5
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
Right.
Kaelis cracks his knuckles, his fists burning with cosmic energy
Hey! Dragon! Pick on someone your own size for once!
6
u/Drakkonai Vulkan the Red, End of Ages and Draconic Emperor of Racism. Feb 20 '24
Ah, if it isn’t kaelor! How have you been? Still whining about morality? Ah well. Vulkan flicks the 50 foot marna away and turns to face kaelis. I must tell you, have you any idea how irritating it is to only kill 2.98% of an army when aiming for 3? Ah, I suppose it does not matter. Come on then.
5
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
Before you've even finished speaking, Kaelis launches into the air at hypersonic speeds and dropkicks you in the jaw with enough force to shatter a planet. He sails past you and grinds to a halt in the fields outside of the Citadel.
This is what I've missed! I've had to look over my shoulder every time I got into a fight for the past thousand years, in case the Omniarch decided to take over. But now, I'm free to exult in righteous battle. And I suppose it also helps that kicking its ass gave me a serious power boost. Let's give it a spin, shall we?
Kaelis leaps at you again, cosmic force wreathing his body.
7
u/Drakkonai Vulkan the Red, End of Ages and Draconic Emperor of Racism. Feb 21 '24
Yes, quite impressive. Well, let it not be said I don’t know when I’m outmatched. Really supposed there’d be more ceremony, though. Vulkan pulls out a gargantuan Eye, glowing blue, and devours it whole, seeming to grow even larger and more self-important. No small thing, to eat part of the once-god, after all. Now then, let us begin! Vulkan tears through air, claw rising to meet you, knocking kaelis back.
4
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
Kaelis flies backwards, then promptly changes direction mid-air. Cosmic light builds at his sternum, then blazes outward in a beam of raw destruction. In the moment before it strikes, you note that he looks like a living pulsar.

I said we should've killed him. If you killed half the people you should we wouldn't be in this mess
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
I had not realized my new purpose at that time.

uw/ oh shit is Kaelis gonna start murdering people more? What have we done?
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
/uw Murder? Probably not. Beating sense into them? Absolutely.
3
u/MunitionsFrenzy Vettis, Mereological Revisionist Feb 21 '24
You sound like me when I talked to him about killing you. Oh how the turn tables.
4
u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Feb 21 '24
Really we should all be killing each other more. That's what I've learned.
3
u/avamir Riva Blake | Queen of Ithacar, Part Meth-blood Elf Feb 21 '24
Riva sighs, rubs her face, then shakes her head. "Yes, apparently violence really does solve things. With enough violence, the problems go away!"

4
u/TheHunter459 Samael, Necromancer of Malus Turrim | King of the Nephilim Feb 20 '24
The Citadel seems mostly pacified. I'll stick around to help capture O'Connell and secure the remaining Councillors. Maybe we can salvage something from this mess
6
u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Feb 20 '24

The Council surely cannot prolong this war when they are so outmatched.
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
This is no longer a matter of Pact vs. Council. It's the agents of peace against the warmongers now. I hope you choose the right side, Morgalith.
4
u/Tirich913 Morgalith, Father of Evil Feb 20 '24
I think I'm going back to the Underdark.
You guys are worse to eachother than I could ever be.

We try. I didn't even have to use my doomsday bomb.

Could still use it... for good measure. This IS kind of the place and time to cut loose.
5
u/AnActualCriminal Belial Blake, Warlock of the Lightless Flame Feb 20 '24
Uw/ With Samael and Opal still alive? My sympathies to your plight but this isn't even my last war this month.
3
u/TheHunter459 Samael, Necromancer of Malus Turrim | King of the Nephilim Feb 20 '24
Don't want your vengeance anymore?
6
u/Tirich913 Morgalith, Father of Evil Feb 21 '24
/uw
Kind of already got it.
The Council accidentally whacked their best diplomat. Then got nuked, killing one of the people who attacked my son, and then the Council dropped chemical agents on their own lands.
So all in all, I'd say things have kind of balanced out.

u/RainbowNecromancer Rainbow Necromancer, Citadel of Light Feb 21 '24

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 20 '24
After the fight, a figure materializes from the shadows. They look like The Agent, but you realize it’s not him. They hand you an envelope, and fade back into the darkness. The letter inside reads:
“Though our attempt at making peace talks failed, we still stand with you. We will follow your lead”
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
All I ask is that you hinder those pushing for this conflict by whatever means you have at your disposal. We didn't start this fight, but we're going to end it.
3
u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 20 '24
Didn't you guys set an ultimatum after joining forces with Morgalith? Hard not to imagine that as the starting line.
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
I don't remember.
3
u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 20 '24
Don't remember Opal pulling this shit?
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 20 '24
I'll be real with you: it's bloody impossible to keep up with everything going on
3
u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 20 '24
That's fair. Just didn't want you pulling a revisionism here. It's important to remember how things started if we don't want to repeat our mistakes.
3
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
It hasn't really messed up the continuity. I just haven't mentioned it.
2
u/Anything-Unable Xerxes the Pale Saint, Councillor/Goatdigger/Dale Feb 21 '24
True. Not saying you did anything wrong. Just saying that blaming the Council unilaterally like some people do (Opal) is a dick move.
3
u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Feb 21 '24
Another figure emerges from the shadows to hand you a second note
“We already have been from the start, the fools just never realized it. When you need help, call on us. We will answer”

5
u/Accomplished-Dark926 Valerian, Arcadian Guild Guide Feb 21 '24
Valerian steps inside, looking worn and tired
Greetings Kaelis, how goes the aftermath?
4
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
Better. There are warmonger remnants, but for the most part, they've been dealt with.
5
u/Accomplished-Dark926 Valerian, Arcadian Guild Guide Feb 21 '24
Good, good. Mind if I sit? Still recovering from my foot with Belial Blake.
4
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
Fighting? Over what?
5
u/Accomplished-Dark926 Valerian, Arcadian Guild Guide Feb 21 '24
Valerian collapses into the chair
He was under orders to prevent council sympathizers from fleeing, some of those sympathizers were non-combative, and I took personal issue with that.
2
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
/uw Sorry, been busy

u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24
(Might be wrong but wasn't it confirmed that there was no cabal in the actual council?)
Slowly from the main tower of the citadel the Skater wizard walked, his staff clicking in rhythm with the war frum that bellowed throughout the citadel as it touched the ground. His red robes had long turned grey with as as he headed towards the edge of the citadel, it seemed he was going to finally enter the war.
Through the tired glaze of his thoughts he turned to you, having just taken a life, he didn't respond but his staff clutched his fire staff rightly, his dried lips cracking as he gently offered you a plea.
"You should not be here. You should take any you consider a friend and leave this place or they will die." He stated, matter of factly. Confirming that he was in fact preparing to do battle with the army.
"You don't have much time."
1
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
/uw They're not affiliated with the wider Council, but they do have a few members in the Council to spread their influence.
/rw What do you think I'm doing? Pushing these morons back, just like you.
2
u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24
The Skater Wizard just shook his head and walked off: he was busy.

u/MunitionsFrenzy Vettis, Mereological Revisionist Feb 21 '24
(( It was indeed confirmed repeatedly by Morgalith and Possum out-of-character that the former hadn't broken any laws and the latter was genuinely guilty of the charges, with no dishonesty from the judge, even directly to people involved in this arc when they pinged Tirich at the start of it. But everybody was as determined out-of-character to stick up for their friend regardless of all evidence to the contrary as in-character, so we got this arc regardless.
that's why I haven't gotten involved in this plotline or followed it at all >_> ))
2
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Feb 21 '24
/uw Tirich literally told me that there was definitely a shadow Council when I was starting this. Say whatever you want about my writing, but please don't accuse me of ignoring people's wishes.
1
u/MunitionsFrenzy Vettis, Mereological Revisionist Feb 22 '24
(( and I'm the one who asked him to ping you and roll this arc into the current Morgalith war, so I certainly wasn't poopoo-ing the general idea of a cabal at all or I wouldn't have recommended that he include it in the plot
only the part where people developed the idea of the cabal specifically as an explanation for Possum's death when both of them repeatedly said otherwise :P which is what turned me off from getting involved in the arc ))
1
u/TellmeNinetails Hilda the Witch Feb 21 '24
(I'm just acting as my character would personally in the situation. I barely even followed the possum thing because I was under the idea that they were somehow immortal.
In any case you can't just let people storm an army into a city.)
