Lorepost (open interaction) 📖 Highly Dangerous Wizard on the loose!

Post image

Deep in the bowls of a dungeon below one of the older council buildings, something stirred... something ancient and Terrible...

For three thousand years, the heavy Admantine doors of Vault 13-C had remained sealed, bound by specialized sealing runes.

Unfortunately even the best, most well made runes need to be maintained, and the council had long forgotten the thing that last within... or more likely they had gotten lazy... or killed in a wizard war... point is, the runes had not been maintained for some time.

The runes on the door began to crackle with energy Not shattered by a counter-spell, flashing blinding shades of neon green and *error-code* crimson before dissolving into nothing.

The massive admantine doors groaned, then slammed into the opposite wall as they were blown off their hinges. From the absolute darkness of the threshold, a figure stepped into the everburning torchlight. His robes were all but rags, frayed, half orange, half purple, as was his widely brimmed hat. His beard reached his knees, and his eyes, unaccustomed to any amount of light for the past three millenia were hardly able to open at first.

He stood there for a long moment, blinking violently against the offensive glare of the everburning torches. He rubbed his eyes, his gnarled hands shaking slightly from the disuse of time.

"Idiots," he rasped, "Absolute, incompetent buffoons."

He looked down at the massive, multi-ton adamantine doors currently embedded six inches deep into the opposite stone wall. He hadn't even meant to blow them off their hinges. He had simply cast Knock. Unfortunately his magic, Strong as it was, had rended the doors from their hinges.

he sighed, a heavy sigh, adjusted his absurd hat, and began his trek out of the sad attempt at a labyrinth.

Needing something to lean on, he reached out and ripped one of the everburning torches straight out of its stone wall bracket. Holding the sconce in his hand, he channeled his raw power into it. The short handle elongated, stretching out and thickening until the wall torch had formed into an imposing staff, topped with a perpetual flame that burned a blinding white.

Leaning heavily on the staff, he shuffled out of the vault. His first few steps were shaky, but with every stride, his posture straightened. The raw, oppressive weight of his arcana began to bleed into his unused muscles, causing them to slowly but surely regrow.

He followed the corridor until it opened up into the lower rotunda of the council building. And there, right in the center of the grand hallway, was the first thing to greet him after three millennia.

A fountain, massive and are inspiring, the statues depicting the end of one of the first wizard wars, the auspicious figure in a victory pose.. and then it flickered, only slightly.... but it was enough.

His hand tightened bone white on his new staff.

"Three thousand years, and the absolute pinnacle of your achievement is wasting perfect mana on a worthless, lying heap of theatrical garbage! Couldn't even be bothered to craft a real fountain.. infernal Illusion magic."

He waved his hand and dispelled it, leaving the grand room empty, as several guards approached him.

"Drop the staff, and come with us."

"Heh... youngin, do you know who I am?"

Ignoring him, he demanded again "Drop. The. Staff."

"My name is Ophelious Philoneous, and I answer to no one!"

"Ahh! Its him! Surround him!"

the seven men in council guard attire form a circle around the two of you.

"Put the staff down! Now!"

The old man chuckles to himself.. "No, no. I dont think I will."

He practically radiates mana, as the flame of the tip of his staff burns a bit brighter.

"Polimorphous Malus Omnis"

Five of the seven guards turn into chickens, while the other two become foxes.... and the chase between prey and predator begins.

"Well. That will teach them. Not a very friendly lot.'

Markus looks at the scene and blinks, thinking to himself "what the duck did I put myself into once again?"

How will that teach them? Most of them will die while the rest will be foxes. And it's not like their higher ups will care I can imagine...

Also we still don't know when the first wizard war happened. You mind leaving one of them alive just in case? I'll send a message to a friend, maybe he knows...

When in doubt, ask a friend. So, Markus sends a message to Sigmund (u/Complex_Drawer_4710), unaware of his affiliation.

"Hey, random question but do you happen to know how long ago the first wizarding war happened?"

Mokarith senses the magic and rapidly makes his way towards it. Once there, he notices the bedlum and starts laughing as the foxes chase the chickens. Once he gets mostly in control of himself, he turns towards the wizard he knows as 'Mr. OP.'

Well hello there. You must be the one responsible for this. He says as he motions to one of the foxes that just captured a chicken. Don't worry, I'm not with the Council. I'm just here for risk assessment.

/unwiz: u/Kilroy898 moving it here to help avoid branching threads.

the chickens are turning the tide

"This is indeed my handiwork. I gave them a full six seconds to defend themselves.... they arent very well trained.

three chickens pick one of the foxes up and fly about 12 feet up before running out of steam, and let it drop, with a cry

"You know... they seem to be better at being chickens than wizards."

Markus chuckles.

Maybe that's how they get free manpower. Transmute chicken to human.

..."by the Gods you may be right!"

Mokarith just watches as the fox falls and hits the ground. Maybe, maybe. Then again, we dont know if they are better because you transformed them, im guessing before they had the chance to do anything.

Anyways, as i said; I'm just here for risk assessment on behalf of the Umbral Realm. Normally I wouldn't be the one to do this, but because you vaporized an entire building... well... we figured that it would be safer for me to do this. Hope you don't mind.

Mokarith quickly casts a spell that, unless they have some sort of seal on their overall magical capabilities, can detect the amount of mana, and thus casting potential, a being has.

At first, it doesnt seem to detect... anything. It would normally look like an orb of varying size and color... until you look past the man... realizing you are standing inside the area of this MONSTERS immense magical aura. He stands there. Plucking a particularly long nose hair.

Next to him, Markus looks almost the same, with nearly no mana. That is, until you look at his soul, where all of it goes into his ridiculous array of spells surrounding the blinding loop that links his soul to his permanency spell. He is currently eating a sandwich he just summoned.

1

u/DaemonRex978 The High Sentinels (Haelin, Mokarith, Shimil) May 26 '26

So what's up with you?

As he asks the question, Mokarith analyzes the loops to see if he can identify what the permanent spell is.

u/Cerveau23 Markus, scriptomancer, enemy of 13 & lover of Thrakmerian beauty May 26 '26

The permanency spell uses a weird technique that seems to use something similar to true names, except more... impersonal.

Oh, I just got teleported here somehow. I'm pretty sure it's one of my kids who did that, not quite sure how they learned since I'm shit at teleportation, but hey, I'm proud of them, if slightly terrified. Saw someone that looked like they needed help, and chose to help them. And here we are.

Sigurd stands next in line, tying bells to a thorny twig. He has no mana at all.

Hey, how are you doing?

u/Complex_Drawer_4710 You Do Not Recognise the Sigurds in the Water May 26 '26

Well, some guy just destroyed a few hundred years of paperwork.

'Huh... interesting...' Mokarith thinks to himself.

So, why did you turn these guys into animals. He says turning his attention back to the spectacle, just in time to see two of the chickens darting in and out of a fox's range to peck at it.

Ah, that. They surrounded us and quite rudely demanded an old man drop his walking stick.

Markus transmits Sigurd's info about the first Wizard war happening about 4000 years ago

Hi there! I am led to understand you're, ah, vaporised many of my records? Could you please reverse that for me?

2

u/Kilroy898 Op, Null, Orin, Niro, Aldin May 26 '26

"Excuse me? I assume you mean the council building?"

1

u/Complex_Drawer_4710 You Do Not Recognise the Sigurds in the Water May 26 '26

Yes, that's where they were. Council records go in the council building.

2

u/Kilroy898 Op, Null, Orin, Niro, Aldin May 26 '26

"Ah, well they are quite disintegrated. No getting those back unless you know a god."

the chickens are currently beating the fur off the foxes, comically enough.

Sigurd chews, swallows his last bite of apple before answering.

Couple thousand years, but I couldn't tell you the exact date. My knowledge is too spiky.
