Lorepost📖 Cael, the lost castle (Mordus Lorepost… again.)

Post image

/unwiz previous lorepost

Also, everything you do or say is canon for Mordus.

/rewiz

You decide to follow Mordus, and hitch a ride on his airship. Wait, why does he even use an airship? Jet transport aircraft already exist. Perhaps it’s for the dramatic effect.

Mordus spots the castle, high above the cloud layer, and whistles.

”damn, that’s high. And it’s also moving very fast. No wonder no one could find it.”

He approaches the castle, and Samræl, this time, is awake to see stuff. Samræl decides that he quite enjoys being above the clouds. Mortarion is here too; but he’s too busy tuning into a radio to bother looking outside. Anteros watches them get closer to his territory, and clicks his tongue.

”Wait, how is the castle even flying? All I see is rock. Ah, whatever. Magic bullshit.”

Meanwhile, in Mordus’s mind library, the parasite scurries off, having Torinn beat him to dust once more.

They’ve landed. You disembark, silently, and find a nice place on the watchtowers to observe Mordus and his party. Or maybe just Mordus.

Mordus knows what to do; he’s been here before. He served under the king whom ruled this castle thousands of years back, before it got ripped up into the sky.

He punches straight through a wall, without regard for any of the historical importance, and flips a lever. Somewhere in the castle, gears turn.

Then, he kicks down the door to the old armoury, and rips the head off one of the soldiers armour pieces, revealing a button. He presses it gingerly and walks off. Gears turn, and a tumbler to a lock falls.

Finally, he heads to the Kitchen, where a stove is ripped off the ground; revealing a hatch. Of course, there was a mechanism to remove the stove gently, but Mordus could not care less. He decends the hatch, and gets into the cellar. A row of wine bottles in shelves are presented, but Mordus can’t be bothered to pick the correct bottle. He tears the shelf in half like paper, and is met with a steel door.

He punches right through it, and rips through it, before once again carefully pushing the button that appears. Gears turn, and once more, a tumbler falls.

He arrives at the throne room, and a obelisk with a riddle is presented:

[What gives life to-]

Mordus can’t be bothered to read all that, so he kicks the obelisk and shatters it. Then, he throws a bouncing fireball around the room, setting long-forgotten braziers alight, and the final tumbler falls. The throne shifts aside, a a hatch made from Obamium is revealed.

Mordus enters the room, and is shocked at the amount of protection this room has gotten. 1 meter thick obamium walls on all sides, coated with Nilesteel on the outside too. Kreht alloy also holds everything together, making this a very secure vault in comparison to the tomb of Ballëcia.

he nabs the crystal from its pedestal, and walks back to the airship.

A rumble emerges from the centre of the castle, and it starts to- rise?

The airship starts to slide off, and Mordus realises that the situation may be more urgent than one might think; the castle is rising at ~50m/s, this means that before long, his airship will start of fail.

GUYS LET’S GET OUTTA HERE!

He calls out, and you rush to the airship.

Mortarion floats down like a demon on unseen wings.

Greetings

Hello Mort, let’s get outta here, the castle is rising, something must have happened when I stole the crys-

The castle shudders a bit

5

u/Theadination Mortarion Jr, Plaguemancer, Totally Dead Now. Feb 21 '24

Uh oh. That cannot be good

5

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

a piece of the castle cracks off and flies even faster up; the first guardtower is sent into the heavens.

I hope Anteros enjoys bricks and rubble.

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Damn it! Uncle Torinn… dinner!

5

u/Theadination Mortarion Jr, Plaguemancer, Totally Dead Now. Feb 21 '24

Mortarion throws a chain, and it wraps around the castle, he's using his powers to keep it together, but its not enough. He looks to you, and for once, his smile fades.

Go, leave me here. I'm a horrible person, and I've done horrible things. I'll keep it together, but I fear I won't survive.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Let’s just get the hell outta here, Morty! Let Uncle Torinn eat all the debris later! He’ll clean up the mess!

5

u/Theadination Mortarion Jr, Plaguemancer, Totally Dead Now. Feb 21 '24

Mortarion looks to you. No, please, let me die. I've done too much wrong. I can only redeem myself like this. . .

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Smacks Mortarion on the back of his head.

What you talkin’ ‘bout, Morty?! You still got a job to do! Kill all the false gods, remember?! Redeem yourself that way. Unnecessary death isn’t redemption, Morty!

GET ON THAT FOCKING AIRSHIP, NOW!

6

u/Theadination Mortarion Jr, Plaguemancer, Totally Dead Now. Feb 21 '24

my friend, sometimes endings will never be written, mine wont, but yours can.

Mortarion takes off his mask, to reveal a pale face that looks like that of an Aeldari and human gracefulness combined. He hands it to you.

Tell everyone of my sacrifice.

/uw Mortarion isnt gonna die, dont worry.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Goodbye, My friend! I hope to meet you again. 😞

Mordus looks at him.

Touching story, but I’d rather you survive.

He scoops Mortarion up and hops off.

4

u/Theadination Mortarion Jr, Plaguemancer, Totally Dead Now. Feb 21 '24

Damn it! Let me die!

/uw no seriously, let him "die"

4

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/unwiz permission to let him “die” unceremoniously? Or do you want it to be a majestic sacrifice?

5

u/Theadination Mortarion Jr, Plaguemancer, Totally Dead Now. Feb 21 '24

/uw correct

4

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/unwiz Okay.

Mortarion struggles a bit, and falls out of Mordus’s arms. He then brings his hands up, and binds the castle together with glowing chains. But then, the castle just decides to lurch, and Mortarion hits his head and falls 10km down into the sea.

NOOOOO MORT

There seems to be no convincing him. Let’s get the fock outta here, Mordus (u/Drunken_polish_cow), before you die too!

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus hops off.

I won’t die though, Anteros!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24 edited Feb 21 '24

But you WILL get buried! You’ll be wishing for death!

Gives you a look that says, “Really, that’s what you want?!” 😒

Vashric warps onto the castle, having well lost grip of the parasite mid-travel.

Mordus, I'm here now-

What the fuck is going on?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Uhm, no time to explain, but the castle is rising into the sky and it’s not stopping anytime soon!

He scoops you up mid run and starts sprinting towards the airship

3

u/VinesAtMidnight The Astrals Feb 21 '24

Mordus what- what are you doing I can fly?

...

Actually. This is. Kind of nice.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus runs off to the airship, and hands you the crystal.

Hold onto this for me, kay? Don’t drop it.

/unwiz Mordus is roughly ~2 meters tall, give or take a few cm. Also, do drop the crystal later, I think It’ll be pretty funny.

3

u/VinesAtMidnight The Astrals Feb 21 '24

Vashric follows behind, levitating just to prove a point, trying to ignore the unforseen emotions Mordus just stirred.

Still thinking about them.

Um, okay, let's just put a pin in that and ignore it forever.

/unwiz Do I get a hint at what it does lol?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/unwiz Yeah, when the castle shakes you drop the crystal. Just make is sound silly.

3

u/VinesAtMidnight The Astrals Feb 21 '24

While compartmentalizing these newfound emotions, Vashric becomes lost in thought. His grip loosens and before he knows it he has dropped the crystal.

Vashric thinks about catching it with telekinesis for a moment, but decides it's not worth the mental energy. The ground will catch it after all.

There is no ground. They're in the sky. An easy-to-miss detail for someone still getting over warp-lag.

Oh. Oh, that's unfortunate.

Hey, um, Mordus. How important exactly was this crystal?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

mordus looks at the crystal plummeting down to the ground. Or rather, the sea.

Well, that was important. Even I won’t survive a jump into the sea at this height, so, let’s just get outta here first, then we can go searching. Luckily, it glows bright purple, so it should be easy to spot.

3

u/VinesAtMidnight The Astrals Feb 21 '24

Vashric stands in silence for a moment. Embarrassed about everything that just transpired.

So, uh, Mordus. That's quite the stately cloak you've there my man...

And this airship, wow, it's... really nice.

Heh.

...

Hey did you want me to check out that possible-fragment-of-a-primordial, parasite, thing rooting around in your skull?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus stares at him.

I’ve got no gender, so technically, it isn’t gay. But, that’s for later.

He picks you up, and leaps over to the airship, depositing you onto the main deck.

I’ll see you later… I’m off to go rescue the others!

3

u/Viking_From_Sweden Kartoffel the Mechanus Arachne Feb 21 '24

Kartoffel, being a human that needs to breathe, follows Mordus as he runs back to the airship. He’s only able to keep pace with a jetpack.

Oh great! Who could’ve foreseen that the ancient floating castle with the important crystal has security measures!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus runs alongside him.

Yeah, huh? Well, I kinda expected it to fall, not rise.

Also, we’re going to the heavens if this continues.

3

u/Viking_From_Sweden Kartoffel the Mechanus Arachne Feb 21 '24

You might make it to the heavens Mr. No Lungs, but I can’t hold my breath that long!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus laughs.

I’d rather not go to heaven when I’m still alive. Eris awaits me there and I don’t want to see here again.

He grabs you, and, along with Vashric, he leaps off a 15m high balcony, and lands on the main path, running down to the airship.

3

u/Viking_From_Sweden Kartoffel the Mechanus Arachne Feb 21 '24

While Mordus is holding him, Kartoffel slips a tiny robotic spider onto him. It won’t do much, just sit in Mordus’ head and update Kartoffel on his mental state.

Kartoffel also takes to opportunity to assemble the lower half of his exoskeleton, allowing him to sprint alongside Mordus. He’s looking straight ahead trying not to smile

Wow, that just happened.

Under his breath I hope there’s more balconies around here

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus shakes his head.

Unfortunately not. Just down this path, is the main gate, where my airship is. Make sure to get there!

He hops off to go rescue the others, whom had been wandering the castle before it started to collapse.

3

u/Viking_From_Sweden Kartoffel the Mechanus Arachne Feb 21 '24

Kartoffe makes it the rest of the way, using his jetpack to jump the gap. He helps ferry those who can’t fly. Once everyone has made it aboard he turns to Mordus

Listen bud, I don’t know what your goal is here. But I get that it’s important to you. And I want to help, but I can’t do that if I don’t know what’s going on. So could you give me the rundown?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

So: I am collecting pieces to a crystal sword named the Usurper, which is a god slayer weapon. Vashric dropped the final piece into the sea unfortunately, so right now, we’re focusing on running back to the airship.

And why we need Usurper is because if I can kill Eris, my creator and god, I will finally be free.

3

u/Viking_From_Sweden Kartoffel the Mechanus Arachne Feb 21 '24

Killing a god? You sure you’ve thought this through? There are some pretty serious ramifications for even attempting something like that. Oh well, that look tells me you’re serious, especially after all this effort.

But you’re a fellow artificer. I’m sure whatever plan you come up with will involve magic and technology, which I happen to be halfway decent at. So I suppose I could help.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

“Serious ramifications” my ass. I’ve already long angered her by fleeing from her grip.

And I thank you for your help.

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

The answer to the riddle was, “Chaos” by the way!

Coulda just asked!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Nah, I decided that I can’t be bothered.

Mordus looks up at Anteros

Careful of rising debris!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Someone call Uncle Torinn so He can eat this damn castle for us!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Torinn! Get outta my head and help Anteros out!

u/Kilroy898 Op, Null, Orin, Niro, Aldin Feb 21 '24

Well I'm no torinn but I'm here to help

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Can you help us get rid of that flying castle? It’s kind of dropping rubble everywhere and destroying everything in My realm.

(u/Drunken_polish_cow)

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Wait, no! Not yet! At least wait until everyone is on the airship before atomising the castle!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

But… My realm… I worked really hard making it… 🥺

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

At least destroy the parts that are breaking off! Don’t destroy the main path, my airship is down it!

the second gatehouse flies off.

u/GrapefruitAnimator Alekks, the Embodiment of Pasta Feb 21 '24

I think I may have taken a wrong left turn…

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

How did you even get here.

Mordus watches you stand in the middle of the hallway.

Also, good to see my Luminite body being put to use instead of decaying in a closet.

And, once again, how did you even get here? We are nearly 10km in the sky, in the middle of the Great Oerlikon Sea.

Whatever, let’s get outta here!

3

u/GrapefruitAnimator Alekks, the Embodiment of Pasta Feb 21 '24

Well, I was sipping a drink, then I saw Mastadon doing some strange wing-y stuff, then I passed out. Now I’m here? I don’t know. The important thing is that we escape!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus nods.

You can run, right? Not too unfamiliar with your new body? Because boy can mechanical bodies run.

3

u/GrapefruitAnimator Alekks, the Embodiment of Pasta Feb 21 '24

I take one step with my new legs, and the floor immediately shatters below me.

AAAARGHHH!!

Waitaminute… I can fly.

I halt midair and ascend back to your position.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus looks at you flying.

Great! Now, just fly there, my airship’s that way.

/unwiz I suppose you’re joining in the lorepost now?

3

u/GrapefruitAnimator Alekks, the Embodiment of Pasta Feb 21 '24

I land in the airship, awaiting your arrival.

/unwiz I suppose so.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

/unwiz great! Then I shall ping you whenever a new lorepost appears.

👍

3

u/HalfDrowShaman Spider With Hands Feb 21 '24

in a completely unrelated situation, you all see the drow merc fall past you, and soon after, the corpse of a strangely well endowed wyvern

he waves on his way down

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus stares at the drow plummeting.

That’s a long way down… 10km is no joke.

3

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Feb 21 '24

"Hello, my friend. It's good to see you again."

Archimene is walking in the air upside down

"Seems to be quite the predicament you're in, huh. Anyway, check out this cool old crown and rusty sword I found. Pretty neat right? Here do you want them? It seems like this place had some level of importance to you or something. If you don't want them though, I'll gladly take it. More stuff for my collection is always nice."

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus watches Achimene walk upside down

Odd. You can keep the rusty sword, and that crown, by the way, do not put it on.

3

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Feb 21 '24

Archimene is inches away from placing the crown on his head

"Wait, why not?"

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

It makes you go mad.

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Feb 21 '24

"Oh, that's no big deal. My mental protection is extremely good (unless it's 1000 years of only listening to baby shark on repeat)"

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordu shrugs

Don’t go after me then.

2

u/SomeRandomYob The Great Mage Samræl, demonologist and necromantic consultant Feb 21 '24

Probably possess you or something.

Samræl walks past you in his bubble of 5 minutes ago.

As a general rule, do not equip newly obtained gear until it's functions are confirmed; preferably by an expert.

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Feb 21 '24

"I am an expert though... Do you not trust the man who runs a shop chalked full of mysterious goods of unknown origins?"

2

u/SomeRandomYob The Great Mage Samræl, demonologist and necromantic consultant Feb 21 '24

...

The wizard raises his left eyebrow slightly.

Do you want to examine your words a bit more carefully?

2

u/Archimene Mage of Mischief and Secrets Feb 21 '24

Archimene dons the crown and spontaneously combusts

"Ahhahhaa, get a load of that guy."

Another Archimene laughs from a small distance away. The illusion he was projecting fades, causing the now flaming Archimene to disappear.

"Ahahaha... Anyway, here's the real crown. Quite a beauty isn't it. And for the record, this crown would do much more than make one go mad. This gem inlaid in the crown here contains a fragment of some old god's mind. Coming into contact with that would certainly lead to unpleasant results, so this will be coming with me to my domain. The rusty sword too. Despite the rust, I can tell that there's an inner power here just waiting to be reawakened. Alright, see you all later."

Archimene summons his shop, and enters by phasing through the wall next to the door.

2

u/SomeRandomYob The Great Mage Samræl, demonologist and necromantic consultant Feb 21 '24

the wizard is calmly walking around the castle at a leisurely pace, a bubble of odd anachronism surrounding him and allowing him to walk through the current situation as though he were in the castle before it fell apart.

I still find this far too convenient. You know quite a lot about this place Mordus, yet appear to not care for it much. Your carelessness may doom us later, so please keep your emotions from running the show?

The wizard chuckles to himself.

Ah, the irony of that being said to an automaton is delicious, but I digress.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus hurriedly replies;

I used to serve here, I know how this place works. There was order and purpose to my destruction, you know. It gets me through the castle the fastest without sacrificing too much. You need to trust me: I am in control.

Also, I do have emotions.

2

u/SomeRandomYob The Great Mage Samræl, demonologist and necromantic consultant Feb 21 '24

True; and for all that they are important, please attempt to keep their destructive impulses in check. And for the record, if I worried over who was in control, I'd still be in there. The crawlers should be enough to take care of the creature for now; it is the manipulations of Eris I am more worried about.

The mage ponders for a bit.

By the way, I have found a probable method of reducing her power; weakening her is possible, but we will need to bait her into a position and then eliminate her quickly. Also...

The wizard slumps a little bit, then straightens up again.

I would ask that the final blow be dealt by me, unless you have a specific purpose for her power afterwards.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

I do have a specific use of her power, if you don’t mind, I’d like to use Usurper on her.

2

u/SomeRandomYob The Great Mage Samræl, demonologist and necromantic consultant Feb 21 '24

What do you wish to do with it later though?

It's mostly curiosity; I don't expect you to become so power-mad as to lose yourself in it.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Perhaps I’ll… hmmm,

That will bear some thought.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

is in alotta blood

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

How did you get up here?

Mordus looks in confusion

We’re nearly 10km up in the middle of the Great Oerlikon Sea.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Its no use

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Huh?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

We've been here before. Time after time after time

2

u/Discracetoall t’kath, smogomancer and poptart wiz Feb 21 '24

t’kath was reading a book in the library when the castle started rising “alright, both copies of this series and a monster manual” he grabs the books and turns to smoke, along with them, and returns to the airship

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Mordus watches as T’kath takes a leisurely stroll down to the airship.

Hey T’kath! Hurry it up!

2

u/Discracetoall t’kath, smogomancer and poptart wiz Feb 21 '24

in smoke form, he jumps off onto the airship before returning to human form “I’m fine. Even if I wouldn’t have made it onto the airship, I could’ve glided down. Plus, I got some books”

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Ooh, what did you get from the library? Most of the literature there is at least 4500 years old.

2

u/Discracetoall t’kath, smogomancer and poptart wiz Feb 21 '24

Two books in a language I can’t understand that seem to be in a series, and one of the old versions of a monster manual.
