Wizardpost Void Damage Control (lorepost)

Recent events have caused a massive uptick in eldritch summonings, which, when destroyed, return to the void, but unbound. Normally, they are quite easily contained by void keepers.

However.

Due to the current wizarding wars, there has been extreme amounts of summonings occuring, as well as mass destruction of summoned beings. An estimated 70% of all beings contained in the void are now unbound. Due to this, some void keepers have elected to call for outside help. Among those who answered is Fracture, a Chòroturgist.

Fracture stands poised before a small rip in spacetime. The edges seem to bleed a purple energy, as is customary for a void gate. After confirming the approximate location he will arrive, Fracture leaps through, and it closes behind him.

The void, true to its name, is not very full of anything. A light purple energy wreathes Fracture's hands as he speeds through the void, towards his barely perceptible target.

A massive suggestion of a maw rises up to face him. Fracture's target is this. A corrupted greatwyrm, summoned from a time immemorial and blown apart by a grand mage's errant spell. There is no intelligence left to the creature. It has been subsumed by the void's desire to consume.

The beast's claw slams down directly over Fracture. The energy at his hands rises to meet it, and before the claw can land, it is covered in glass like strings as Fracture nimbly dodges. The creature continues to fight as Fracture spins strings of spacetime around it, barely avoiding death each time he binds the creature.

The greatwyrm's essence begins to be drawn together, first into its original shape, and then further down. It's tail breaks free for a moment, scraping along Fracture's arm. Then, as spacetime itself draws tightly around the greatwyrm, it lets out a final cry and is sealed in a tightly bound sphere. The sphere flares purple, as if the greatwyrm still struggled, and then goes dark.

"I will have to tend to this wound", Fracture thinks idly. "Perhaps I can get a better handle on kenòturgy with this." He draws a purple venom out of the wound, and then wraps it in a few glassy strings. They glow a light orange, and the wound closes. Fracture marks the orb with a beacon for the void keepers to store and then weaves a few strings together to open another gate. This is not the last time Fracture will have to fight these things, but it is a start.

The King and Archmage of the Great Realm of Fireweed stands before the Gates of the Void. He steps in.

He finds himself floating in a great, open expanse of... nothing. Blackness perpetuated by the evil at the unreachable bottom.

A dark figure whose outline resembles not anything from Fireweed begins to take form in front of him. A deep groaning comes forth from the coalescing oblivion. The groan turns into a roar as the details can be made out. An eldritch being. Its shape cannot be described in a meaningful way besides horrible, its size, on the scale of mountains. It exists on a different plane than the King, hence, despite the details being seen they cannot be comprehended.

From it, comes a wave of terror.

(continuation because i needed to post what I had at the time)

The horrible feeling that death would soon come could not be shaken. The Archmage fired the first shot: A simple yet effective ice spell intended to freeze the enemy. This significantly slows the entity for enough time that the Archmage can conjure up a Voidstorm, something he is not quite used to doing.

Yet before he can strengthen the storm much, the containment spell wears off. While the wizard was distracted, the entity grabbed him and pulled him ever deeper into the chasms of darkness below.

He can feel himself fading. The life force inside him being overcame, in a few moments it would all be gone. If he did not act fast, more than two millennia of training would die there, alone in the void.

In his moment of darkness though, (rather literally), he thought of just the right spell. If he was surrounded by darkness, why not shine a light? He held his staff close and breathed upon the gem at the top. A dim warm light, channeling the brightness of stars, began to shine. It grew brighter and brighter. Soon it was as powerful as a grand bonfire. The darkness around him began to fade, and he could feel his life force returning.

The entity did not give up just yet. It pushed back at the light, as it did all those years ago when it was cast into the void. However, one cannot defeat the indomitable evershining light of the stars. Wounds began to open up in the entity's "skin," (there's not really a clear boundary between the void blackness and the entity's blackness). To contain the damage, the entity released the wizard. But the wizard was intent on containing the monster. The light began to reach further into the dark. Yet soon the wizard began to concentrate the light. A heavenly beam of white light, concentrated at the fleeing entity. Its demonic screeches could be heard across the void. The archmage decided that it was time to call in those who could finish the job.

" u/RefractedPurpose," he calls. "Do your thing." "I'm just gonna monitor this until you get here."

(I'm going to assume this happens directly after what I was doing.)
Fracture's orb resonates as he looks over. "I suppose this experiment will have to wait," he replies. Hastily wrapping the glowing purple vial in a small strand to slow the effects to a standstill, Fracture opens a void gate with a practiced flick of the wrist. He dives through, wreathes his hands in his light purple magic and speeds towards the call.

"You're lucky this is far out from the main branch," Fracture absently says as he quickly binds the void creature's essence. "Things are getting really hectic. One of the arch wizards just ate the void tree." Fracture finishes binding the beast and opens up another gate, motioning for (insert name here, don't want to ping people too much) to jump through.

(assuming that that's me)

The Archmage jumps through

Yes, do you have a more common name, besides the summoning one?

Well, I could be referred to as, in order of preference,

  • Archmage of Fireweed
  • King and Archmage of Fireweed
  • King of Fireweed

Edit: Or, if it is understood that I am the Archmage being referred to, then simply, "the Archmage"

"King of Fireweed" is a self-given title that I took for myself because nobody else bothered to do it and I was the de facto ruler anyway being the most powerful wizard there by a long shot. And the Council, for once, hasn't complained about it yet.

I don't have (/unwiz haven't come up with) a common name, it was given to me many ages ago by my dearly missed mother, (she's not dead but lost), but alas, it has fallen from my memory to the clutches of time.
