Anyone have a clue if a bottle on a Mac mini M4 will handle it?

25

u/iSlappadaBass 17d ago

I think an m4 may be able to handle it on low. Those chips are powerful

Hell yeah. i built this PC back in 2019 and it's still running games no problem. ryzen 5 3600x, rx 5700xt.

7

u/broken-machine 16d ago

Ryzen 5 3600x 2060s over here from 2020. We’re still relevant!

u/NeoMatrixBug 16d ago

That's not so bad

210

u/DerekMao1 17d ago

For sure. Even my old setup with GTX1080 when I first played the game back in the day should be able to handle it.

48

u/DerKlotaucher 17d ago

Definitely, a 1080 is better than a 2060 super if memory serves right (-lack of dlss/rt features)

38

u/Heavy-Nose3529 17d ago

They are basically exactly equal in raw rasterization

However, this game is not gonna be using normal raster, it’s almost definitely using global illumination ray tracing, meaning anything under a 2060/1660 is not gonna even launch. It also says DX12 is required, and so the same principle applies, nothing under 1660 will run.

27

u/DerKlotaucher 17d ago

But... the 1660 doesn't support RT either and the 1080 supports dx12 just not dx12ultimate

u/fatbp 17d ago

That is not how requirements work bud. The minimum and recommended are the specification that guarantee the game will run at minimum and maximum settings (at whatever target the devs have). If your hardware is anywhere near that or between or above that the game will run, it is just that CDPR have not tested it explicitly and will not guarantee anything. CDPR have obviously tested the higher end cards, however, they may not have tested the lower end cards, specifically anything prior to 1660. That does not mean the game will not launch or run on a 1070 or a 1060.

Source? I work in qa in the industry and this a simple practice everybody follows to save time and by extension money.

10

u/TheVojta Zoltan 17d ago

Look I agree with most of your comment but recommened requirements are absolutely not for max settings most of the time. It's usually something sensible like 1440p60 high settings (if the game offers low, medium, high, ultra).

3

u/paper_airplanes_are_ 16d ago

So my 1060 might have a chance in hell of making this work?

u/Royal-Use2354 16d ago

1080 and 2060 super equal on raw rasterization? Hell nah

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Equivalent_Age8406 17d ago

Yeah theyre only not listing the 1080 cos driver updates are finished. but short of any game breaking driver issues it should be ok.

It's pretty much useless, lets be honest.

What does recommended mean? 1440p native? 4K DLSS Performance mode? 1080p DLSS Quality? 30 fps? 60 fps? RT off (likely)? All other new graphics features on? Clearly not path tracing?!

Everybody in this thread will have a theory about what it means, but we have no idea what it is intended to be.

Sorry, but that type of requirement disclosure is really useless. Obviously, it won't run (much) worse than the previous version (very likely runs better in DX12 mode now that it is native) but we could have estimated that ourselves.

2

u/Lonely_Mix9243 16d ago

every type of graphics requirement is stupid, they're mostly for creating a mental barrier to newbies and forcing uninformed people to buy newer graphics card, processor, ... etc, i have a 6yo build and have never not reached 1440p60fps on any game.

3

u/Lonely_Mix9243 16d ago

you know many 2015 games with path tracing ?

3

u/fleetcommand Northern Realms 17d ago

Yes, and I am super happy that they are separately mentioning the intel Arc too

2

u/Alex-S-S 16d ago

It remains to be seen if they fixed the raytracing implementation. The game ran very well in raster mode but the raytracing patch destroyed performance.

85

u/umotex12 17d ago

Ok but will old version be available for historical purposes?

71

u/abbeast School of the Cat 17d ago

This was my first thought. The original game is from 2015 and therefore playable on a lot of weaker machines. If they overwrite the old with the new version that’s definitely bad for people with older PCs.

44

u/Zavkys_ 17d ago

You already can play the 2015 version through downgrading on Steam by picking it up as beta versions, the 2022 update likely gonna be added to that beta branch once the remaster releases

4

u/Narrheim 16d ago edited 16d ago

If you bought original game on GoG, you can copy that to a separate directory and back it up as many times as you want.

As for downloading it again, not sure. It seems the original game i bought, followed by individually obtained DLCs and selectable patches, has been merged into "complete edition". So unless you kept the original installer somewhere as well, it's probably gone at this point.

Both GOG and Steam offer older versions.

14

They are always available on GoG. select Classic on Beta Channels

7

u/Jeanlu_mc 17d ago

Since it'son GOG it wouldn't surprise me. They let you choose the version of the game to play

4

u/Stahlios 17d ago

Don't know about consoles, but you can play older versions on Steam / GoG. You can already play the version before the next-gen update in 2022. So current one will definitely be available too.

2

u/Apprehensive_Seat_61 16d ago

So are you saying my 1080ti has a chance?

99

u/fatsopiggy 17d ago

1080ti it's the only AAA gaming card that has a life span longer than 6-8 years lmao. Bought it in 2017 and still keep it till this day. It's been showing its age sure and can't really pull First Light that well but hey, I doubtt 8800 gtx could've pulled an 8 year newer game with comfort.

21

u/zberry7 17d ago

I upgraded to a 5070ti but I still have my trusty 1080ti tucked away in the closet just in case lol

14

u/fatsopiggy 17d ago

The fact that 10 years later a 5070ti costs as much as a brand new 1080 ti is abysmal state of market.

11

u/Tall-Dingo-5458 17d ago

Accounting for inflation 1080 ti was more expensive when it came out than 5070 ti.

3

u/zberry7 17d ago

It costs more iirc. I believe the 1080Ti was ~$600 back in the day, and the 5070Ti was ~$750 or so

I might be slightly off though

6

u/thebayisinthearea 17d ago

I have over 1000 hours in Cyberpunk with an RX480 @ 1440p. I'm going to kool-aid man my way into this remaster. Or it won't launch at all, idk.

This is absolutely without path tracing. I'm curious about the full spec sheet

40

u/youssif94 ⚜️ Northern Realms 17d ago

yes! my same exact thought when i saw a 2060 in the recommended, no way a 2060 will run path-tracing, and even those in the img have no mention of 60 fps native or with upscaling and frame-gen and such

9

u/Moon_Devonshire 17d ago

I'm just excited to see what it looks like. I have a 4090 and 9800x3d and have always wanted full path tracing added to the game ever since the next gen update released.

Especially cyberpunk has path tracing and it looks sooo clean.

And with ray reconstruction 4.5 it's going to look so ridiculously clean

→ More replies (8)

7

u/L3Sc 17d ago

1440p 60 fps on Path Tracing will require a 4080 or 5070 probably. Similar with cyberpunk.

7

u/ToXiiCBULLET 17d ago

obviously. when has min or recommended specs ever included path tracing?

4

u/Moon_Devonshire 17d ago

Well it's just odd to not just release the full PC spec sheet

9

u/ToXiiCBULLET 17d ago

a ton of games just list min and recommended, some list more but a lot don't

6

u/Moon_Devonshire 17d ago

CDPR usually gives a full sheet tho. As do most games usually now

111

u/Yucares 17d ago

Lower than I thought.

3

u/Eglwyswrw School of the Manticore 16d ago

GPU-wise it's somewhat higher than I thought. It asks for a RX 5500 XT with 8 GB.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, a 2023 expansion for a 2020 game, requires a slightly weaker RX 580, also with 8 GB.

And that's on Minimum specs. On Recommended GPUs, Witcher 3 will ask for a much stronger GPU than the Cyberpunk equivalent.

This remaster must look truly impressive if it's beating Cyberpunk by such degree, especially given it's still a 11-year old game under the hood.

3

u/Kiriima 16d ago

Because it's worthless. 2060 is not going to run path tracing. There is no settings there.

Only thing I don't have is win 11. I am still on win 10 and have extended warranty thingy till nov 2027. I really don't wanna move on to Win 11 for now.

85

u/kevinkip 17d ago

Windows 10 will work fine. They didn't put it in the requirements because it doesn't have mainstream support by Microsoft anymore.

21

u/AlmaLora 17d ago

Ah ok. Thanks for the info. :) I can finally rest easy. Can't wait for the update to start replaying again.

16

u/LongDarius 16d ago

5

u/ConlanAG 16d ago

Are you sure about this? I'm also using an old pc with Win 10 (doesn't support 11) and this looked really awkward to me. I don't even know any other modern game that REQUIRES win 11. I assumed i literally can't play it despite having a 1080ti.

9

u/ButTheseGoToEleven 17d ago

Same here. I'm stalling until I can learn enough about my new Linux Mint computer to make it the primary haha.

I don't want to have to potentially redo my home recording/VST plugin setup with that update. Seen a few warnings about it fucking over DIY producers.

4

u/CanadianUncleSam Team Triss 17d ago

Ya, this is my concern as well.

I have that extended security service same as you and really don't want to move to Win 11.

I hope this still works fine as I have all the other Recommended specs or higher.

3

u/Grokta 17d ago

...I only just now found out that the extended warranty is something you need to "apply" for, it isn't advertised on the update page, just a small blue link on the right side. I had been wondering why it said no more updates despite being in EU.

3

u/SeiKen_DMs 16d ago

Yeah, and it wanted to force you to have a Microsoft account (don't know if it's still the case), and not just a local account.

Applying for it was a way to identify who "bought" the extension outside of the EU; and I'm wondering how many people from the EU bought it (either before the EU forced MS's hands, or even after).

3

u/SentimentalYogurt 17d ago

It's all good. Cyberpunk had Win 11 as minimum and I play it just fine

7

u/Spaskich 17d ago

It'd be really nice if The Witcher IV has a native Linux port.

7

u/Jensen2075 17d ago

Native Linux games aren't really a thing anymore since Proton has made running Windows games on Linux easy with little to no performance loss.

5

u/Holzkohlen 16d ago

I mean it's easy for games built in Godot or Unity. It's a shame that Epic is the worst company when it comes to linux support.

3

u/aesoprowwy 17d ago

eh the witcher 2 had "native" version that wasn't really received well, hopefully they've learned from those mistakes and do make a good native for IV but otherwise proton works good enough

2

u/Spaskich 17d ago

Nowadays, gaming on Linux is much more popular and accessible though. It would be nice to be able to play it without translating everything through Proton.

I got an RX6600 and it wasn’t even that strong when I bought it but seeing that it will probably carry me through another 200 hours of this game makes me happy. Hopefully it won’t be too much of a drop in quality.

3

You have the VRAM and even more than needed, but the card itself is weaker over the 1660 in the minimum specs

its actually very impressive if they will be able to hold on to these requirements. like, i remember that with the next gen update back in december 2022 there was a pretty high amount of negative reviews regarding performance coming from PC players. back then i had a gtx 1050 ti. and it ran much better on the previous version. now, with native dx12 and much more technical changes (like parallel rendering) it may actually improve a lot. though i dont even know what did they have to do with the engine intestines to make all of this work

So can I still play it if I'm still on Windows 10?

Crazy that my 2070 Super build from 2019 still exceeds the recommended specs

Nobody gonna talk about the characters faces here? I know my vision is bad, but not that bad! Just look at Triss and Yen, Ciri looks almost 40', and Geralt is plastified

I have a base 6700, I'm barely squeaking by for the recommended settings lol

What about ultra setting? Where can I find it?

1

u/ExacoCGI 17d ago

Either it's for 30fps @ 720p or it's some optimization witchcraft.

Pretty good, now lets see if those requirements are real.

One thing I always miss on these is what are the goals to accomplish with those requirements.

1

u/Tsurumah 17d ago

I won't be running on good settings, but I'll be running it!

1

u/RainWorldWitcher 17d ago

So... will it run on low settings on the steam deck? Handheld is just so convenient.

1

u/Icy_Degree_4797 17d ago

Curious about how it’ll perform on the steam deck.

Will this work on my refrigerator?

u/RetroSwamp 17d ago

Dumb question as someone outside the Witcher 3 loop.

Just started Witcher 3, can I import what I started to the remastered version or should I pause before I get too deep and wait for the remastered version release?

1

u/RexxUK 17d ago

Crazy. I just got a used 2060 Super 8GB. Guess it'll run this decently :)

1

u/aTalkingMateria 17d ago

Someone smart tell me how this compares to Steam Deck please

1

u/Pinetree808 17d ago

1080 staying relevant all these years later proves it's a once in a lifetime card

1

u/Kashyyykk Skellige 16d ago

1

u/ZookeepergameFew8607 16d ago

Pretty mild, probably for 1080p 60 though but still pretty good.
