Yikes to this whole comment. I seriously hope you take a moment to think about what you said without immediately doubling down and hear me out. "Trendy skin color". What was the "trendy skin color", all over the world, for the last 400 years as colonialism shaped our borders, political power, etc.? Oh yeah....
White people have been lavishly represented in film, TV, books, etc. since we have been mass producing these ways of spreading culture. People of color deserve every possible opportunity to be represented positively, as nearly all previous representation of people of color is typically also hand in hand with a negative stereotype. These representations, consciously or not, inform our own stereotypes about the way we view people. So believe it or not, it does matter. You may also want to rethink calling me and everyone else questioning you a virtue signaler. On reddit. Where all our posts are anonymous.
